The ten most beautiful black actresses in the world that I know of who are also famous enough to be in the Wikipedia:
1. Jill Marie Jones (1975- ) is an American actress. She starred in the television show “Girlfriends” and was once a cheerleader for the Dallas Cowboys. What lips! She is not beautiful in an ordinary way, but somehow I cannot take my eyes off her. More.
2. Sanaa Lathan (1971- ) is an American actress. She is probably best known as the heroine in “Alien vs. Predator” (2004). I saw her in “Disappearing Acts” (2000) and could not take my eyes off her. Looking at her is like eating ice cream on a hot summer day. More.
3. Gabrielle Union (1972- ) is an American film actress. Of all the women here she is easily the one I have mentioned most in this blog. More.
4. Aissa Maiga (1975- ) is the highest-paid black actress in France. She is from Senegal. More.
5. Lela Rochon (1964- ) is an American film actress. She was in “Waiting to Exhale” (1995). I could look at her for ever. More.
6. Gloria Reuben (1964- ) is a Canadian actress who is best known for appearing on the television show “ER”, where she got Aids from her unfaithful husband. Her father is white, her mother Jamaican. She won Miss Black Ontario 1986. More.
7. Tamara Tunie (1959- ) is an American actress who was Jessica on “As the World Turns”. She is the only one on this list that I have seen in real life: I saw her in 1995 in Central Park in New York where she played Helen of Troy in Shakespeare’s “Troilus and Cressida”. She was beautiful! And to think she was already 36 then. More.
8. Taís Araújo (1978- ) is a Brazilian actress who became the first black actress to appear as a main character in a telenovela on Brazilian television. She once played Elza Soares, one of Brazil’s best singers, and Xica da Silva, a slave who became the richest woman in Brazil. She is a presenter on the television show “Superbonita”, about how to be beautiful! More.
9. Ildi Silva (1982- ) is a Brazilian television actress. She was discovered on the streets of Salvador and became a model. Now she is an actress. She has had only small parts so far, but she is famous enough in Brazil that the press never tires of writing about her love life. More.
10. Angela Bassett (1959- ) is an American film actress. She looks like a queen. She is by far the best actress listed here. She was in “Boyz n the Hood” (1991), “Malcolm X” (1992), “What’s Love Got to Do with it” (1993), “Waiting to Exhale” (1995) and “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” (1998). She was great in them all.

Wonderful tribute, but think, why is it that our culture refers to these women as “black” and/or African-American when that is only partially true? While I have no problem with anyone or this or that, I recognize that all if not every actress of mention above is mulatto or moreno, not black. The American culture does not distinguish for some reason between pure and mixed race. Why not? Since truth is truth, why not highlight the truth? Why not? PC? Beauty is beauty and while there are certainly those of pure race who are beautiful, mixed races often produce the most exotic. Is it simply too difficult to accept the truth? Probably so…

Many of these women are part white. Ildi SIlva, for example, is 71% white. But in America, where I live, they are all considered to be black because of the One Drop Rule:

Now as for the one who said that mixed children are better looking than black children. That is just sad. I’m not saying that black is better. There are mixed raced people who are not exotic or beautiful just like it’s the same with black people or people of any race. You also have those who are exotic looking that are black skinned, light skinned, African , American, African, Indian, White etc. We have to remember that Hollywood, Bollywood or any industry is not the real representation of people. It’s a made up fantasy land. Do you really think those Greek and Roman Statues actually represent the looks of the Greeks and Romans?
And also you have to take into account that you are seeing lighter actresses because that’s who Hollywood picks. Look at the French one. That’s the only one where you see an actress that is dark skinned. Have you seen the black men in movies and commercials they can be dark while the black women has to be light. Now go watch a Nollywood movie and tell me that black women/people aren’t beautiful.

The site ranked 200 actresses. 4 squares = excellent talent 3 squares = very good talent 2 squares = good talent 1 square = fair talent and no squares = poor talent.
Here are the rankings for our black actresses:
41. Halle Berry — 3 squares
60. Angela Bassett — 3 squares
71. Queen Latifah — 3 squares
80. Whoopi Goldberg — 3 squares
153. Sanaa Lathan — 2 squares
163. Regina King — 2 squares
171. Jada Pinkett-Smith –2 squares
183. Thandie Newton — 2 squares
195. Alfre Woodard — 2 squares
Of course Meryl Streep and Cate Blanchett was ranked 1 and 2 respectively. Since this was based on talent and not popularity, I think Angela Basset should have been given 4 squares for talent, because she is excellent. Other than that I consider the rankings to be pretty accurate.

^You know, Jill Marie Jones was someone I never noticed until I started seeing her on abagond’s lists. Then I began looking at her and I agree with abagond that she is gorgeous. I think all unique beauties have something a bit “off” about their faces, but that’s what makes them stand out amongst the average pretty people. To me Persia White, like Alicia Keys, is average in every way (although I think she is more beautiful than Alicia who seems more on the not-so-good looking side without adornments). Anyway, I love these pics of Jill Marie:
I like this list even though I don’t agree with everyone on it. Sanaa Lathan I would put at number one and I would add Garcelle Beauvais.

Thank you so much for saying what you said about Keys!!!!
I said the same thing about her on this blog some time back and I’m glad to see that somebody else is blinded by the makeup, weave and expert lightning that plain janes like her get shrouded in.
Yeah, Persia White is extremely plain. Jill is beautiful and like you, I didn’t get the buzz abut her but then I really looked at her and saw that she’s very pretty. You’re right, a true beauty has something that’s slightly “off” about them facially. That’s why I’m not crazy about plastic surgery. Our perceived physical flaws usually give us character.

Alicia Keys might sometimes wear extensions but her real hair is quite long. Everyone on TV wears makeup and weave including white women. Jill Marie is wearing make up and weave too. Her hair looks relaxed. Like Robin said she has a horse looking face and her bottom lip hangs from the side. I dont find her most attractive sorry.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You really find White to be better looking than her co-stars? Out of curiousity, may I ask why? What about her looks elevate her over the other three women in your opinion?
I’ve said tons of times on this blog that the white women on television wear just as much makeup and weave as everyone else. They may actually wear more. Keys is not exactly a “looker” without the “works”. She’s extremely photogenic but not exactly pretty. You can put Chili, Rosario Dawson and Eva Pigford on that list with her. Some people are a natural fit for the camera yet aren’t quite “pretty.” Those aforementioned ladies are famous examples of this.

I agree with Natasha W wrt to Jill Marie Jones. I loved to watch Girlfriends after school but I never say those women as particularly “gorgeous”. The best looking , I thought, was the secretary/assistant played by Goldie Brooks..
After a while I started to notice Jill Marie Jones. She is very beautiful. The only thing “off” I can see is the size of her features. She has very large eyes and lips, more so than the average black woman. I think she pulls it off, and looks stunning. Her features are large but very balanced.

I agree. I use to watch the Tv series Clueless and she was always on point (hair, skin, face, and figure) Nothing wrong or “off” on Miss Dash. Drop dead gorgeous woman. I believe Stacey is passed over for roles because (a) she may have been typecasted because of clueless (b) she doesnt fit into the black woman stereotypes (ugly, fat, ghetto, or the “pretty but safe Halle Berrish types”) (c) she would take all the attention away from her white female co stars

What makes White so much better looking than her co-stars in your opinion?
Stacey Dash is hella hot but not what I call a true timeless beauty. But again, that’s in the eye of the beholder.
Of course, folks’ll think that Chili and the rest of them are so beautiful. They take great pictures and are famous. Yet, when you get past all of that and see them as individuals, you see that they are not exactly “pretty”.
Most of the “pretty” you see in real life and in the media is made.

Right, most celebrities have the “works.” Yet Persia and Alica look more average and a little below average, respectively, to me. Their faces are just so… regular. There were plenty of them in the past and there will be plenty of them in the future, but I can’t say the same about Jill Marie Jones.
“Like Robin said she has a horse looking face and her bottom lip hangs from the side. I dont find her most attractive sorry.”
Harsh. I don’t think she looks like a horse and her lips are beautiful. I think she is a unique beauty, but yes, beauty is subjective.

I thought Eva was pretty on ANTM. But looking at her currently, yes, I agree something isn’t right. Rosario, yes… I don’t like her bone structure. But Chilli? She was on my unoffical “most gorgeous celebrity” list. I might have to go looking at some new photos to see what you mean.

I’m still curious to why a poster sees White as better looking than her co-stars? I just genuinely want to know.
But yes, White and Keys, are just plain. Keys borders on unattractive without the works. Like I noted before on this blog, I saw her before she “blew up” and she was nothing to look at back then. She was also very rough and decidely masculine but that’s not neither here nor there.
See, I used to have a crush on Chili (and Rosario and Stacey). I thought she was beautiful until…I really looked at her. And saw that she’s kinda plain. I think the flawless skin, long wavy locks and makeup are the real reason why she’s thought to be very beautiful by many. She’s extremely photogenic; a natural fit for the camera but really, when you look at her (not doctored pics), she’s really not that special in terms of looks. Her and the other ladies I named are hardly unattractive but they are just “nothing special” off camera.

Certainly White is not better looking than her co-stars. She is pretty, but in a plain way. Now she stands out of course because she is pale compared to her other co stars, but other than that her features are not striking.
Chili is definitely a natural beauty. I think some people tend to confuse being pretty with being beautiful. Pretty people have average features that are symmetrical and pleasant to the eye such as Berry, Lauren London. Beautiful people tend to have a feature that is off about them or a feature that doesn’t seem to fit with the rest of their features which makes them stand out more along with a symmetrical face. Adriana Lima–eyes, Jolie–lips, Naomi Campbell–lips, bone structure and eyes, Nia Long–eye shape.

^I tend to think of Lauren London as “cute,” but I guess pretty works as well. Adriana Lima is way hyped, I definitely wouldn’t put her in the “beautiful” category. She’s a little too fake-looking and reminds me of a Hollywood version of many Puerto Ricans I knew grewing up. Naomi Campbell’s face is a little too “hard” for me, but I can see her appeal.

You used the word certainly like what you said was a fact and not an opinion. I’m not a big fan of pale skin but dont think it adds or takes anything from her. Also imo one doesnt need to be striking to look better than the other three cast members of girlfriends.
“I’m still curious to why a poster sees White as better looking than her co-stars? I just genuinely want to know.”
Whites facial features fit her face. Like Islandgirl said they may have down played her looks to fit her character. Plus her character was laid back and easy breezy I would get along with her. Jills character on the other hand was a stuck up, arrogant, diva without good reason imo.
Harsh. I don’t think she looks like a horse and her lips are beautiful.
Dont get me wrong full lips are beautiful just not the ones on Jill. Were just going to agree to disagree on Jill Marie Jones. I dont find her attractive and she is certainly not the best looking black actress Imo. Hell some of my friends are better looking than her. One thing I can say about white people is that they dont half step. When it comes to beauty that portrays them in the media/magazines/calenders/movies they pick the most beautiful they have to offer Sophia Loren, Kim Novak, Brigette Bardoe, Raquel Welch, Rita Hayworth, Jayne Mansfeild, Ava Gardner, Veronica Lake, the list goes on to their actresses/models of this day an age. The average white woman look nothing like these women. At least not in my neck of the woods, many are overweight and haggard looking by the age of 35 and even then they are still given the benefit of doubt. Black women are not given the benefit of doubt and are veiwed as stereotypes most come from tv. We need to show the most beautiful we have to offer, more variety, and less stereotypes when it comes to black actresses.

The biggest problem BW face in America is the HISTORICALLY NEGATIVE, ANTI-BW images that are/have been projected to the world via American media.
Until BW are shown in our MOST POSITIVE, BEAUTIFUL, DIVERSE AUTHENTIC selves, American media will continue to use FALSE/NEGATIVE images to trash our HUMANITY, DIGNITY, and FEMININITY.

Why should Black women who live in America have to go to other countries to find acceptance? What good is being appreciated somewhere overseas when we live here. Other women of other races arent told to do so. They are appreciated right here. With this economy do you think most black women have extra money right now to go soul searching or man hunting or whatever it is you are suggesting?
LikeLike
If you don’t know what I am suggesting, then ask and don’t make assumptions. I suggested that black people, not just black women should travel because many black people are under the assumption that how they are treated here in America is how they will be treated all over the world and that is not the case. America is only one country. It is not the world. So what about the economy? Do you actually think I meant for black people to pack up and go some place like Europe or Brazil within the next two months or something? You make it seem as if I put some time limit on it or something. And no I didn’t mean for black women to go man hunting. Men all over the world. No one has to hunt to find them. The word acceptance is not in my previous post, so I don’t know where it came from in your post. Do not put words in my mouth.

First of all I dont need you to suggest shit to me nor did I ask for your advice. Don’t you make assumptions about how black people think they will be treated outside the US you’re not a mind reader. FYI people look down on black people in other places also. While in Mexico I was harrassed constantly by the police. My father traveled while in the US military and he wasn’t treated with respect, some countries/people are anti American in case you didnt know. My boyfriend has lived in Thailand, Japan, and S. Korea his family – him and his sibilings were looked down upon for being part black. So yes in some other countries blacks are treated similiar as here if not for being black then for being American. And yes I know there are places that aren’t so called anti black but what the hell does that have to do with our problems here? Unless black people are planning on moving there (which most are not) I dont see your point.
Yes I mentioned the economy. More blacks would travel if they had the income. And the blacks who make a decent income do travel. Believe it or not some blacks will probally never have enough money to travel the US let along to other countries. I hate when people tell black people especially grown ones what they should do.

I think it’s all about the stomach. It wasn’t a complete no-no to have a bit of a stomach fat and many women had it. But the desirable posture required to hide the stomach.
Because it’s really difficult to be thick, but only on right places (stomach is rarely seen as a “right place”, but it often goes with round hips and full breasts figure), you had to hide your stomach.

So is that whites choose the “best” for their actresses or that the actresses of today don’t compare to the actresses of the past? I mean, there were beautiful “black” acresses of yore as well — Dorothy Dandridge, Diahann Carroll, Lena Horne, etc.

Steve Tanton is a race divider or baiter trying to create division where none should be. As Black’s we are united but to further divide us by mixtures benefits the white race. They are already afraid of us banding together and standing against them, but now that the republican party is falling apart, if they they can further divide us, then President Obama will eventually fail.
Open your eyes and understand, though the one drop rule was inherently evil, it brought us together as a people that brought to fruition the Civil Right Act of 1964. THis is the act white politicians are now attacking.

I agree with the list of women and the honorable mentions! All ten of these women are beautiful and I wish Kenya Moore, Halle Berry, and Nia Long was on this list! They are absolutely beautiful.

Wait a second….what about Taraji P. Henson ? Did you guys forget about her ? She’s a very beautiful actress, I give her more props than nia long, check out hustle and flow even better yet check out I can do bad all by myself…the sister can sing. And just about can fit into many roles add her to your list….she deserve it.

I think you need to make a new list that is a whole lot longer! If this list is focusing on beautiful mulatto/mixed women, there are a lot that you missed!

Gabrielle Union is at the top of my list. When I have to name a sista in Hollywood she is the one I think of instantly. There’s just something special about her. I love me some Gabrielle Union. Yep.
