Remarks:
This is one of those songs that I hated at the time (1990) because they played it too much, but now I like it. Al B. Sure is the same way – but not Jodeci!
Lyrics:
Yeah, Spiderman and Freeze in full effect
(Uh-huh)
(You ready, Ron)
I’m ready
(You ready, Biv)
{I’m ready, Slick, are you}
Oh, yeah, break it down
Girl, I must warn you
I sense something strange in my mind
Situation is serious
Let’s cure it ’cause we’re running out of time
It’s oh, so beautiful
Relationships they seem from the start
It’s all so deadly
When love is not together from the heart
It’s drivin’ me out of my mind
That’s why it’s hard for me to find
Can’t get it out of my head
Miss her, kiss her, love her (Wrong move you’re dead)
That girl is poison
Never trust a big butt and smile
That girl is poison
If I were you I’d take precaution
Before I start to meet fly girl, you know
‘Cause in some portions
You’ll think she’s the best thing in the world
She’s so fly
She’ll drive you right out of your mind
Steal your heart when you’re blind
Beware she’s schemin’, she’ll make you think you’re dreamin’
You’ll fall in love and you’ll be screamin’ demon, hoo
Poison, deadly, movin’ it slow
Lookin’ for a mellow fellow like DeVoe
Gettin’ paid, laid, so better lay low
Schemin’ on house, money, and the whole show
The low pro h** she’ll be cut like an afro
See what you’re sayin’, huh, she’s weighin’ you
But I know she’s a loser
(How do you know) Me and the crew used to do her
Poison-poison-poison-poison
Poison-poison-poison-poison (Poison)
Poison-poison-poison-poison
Poison-poison-poison-poison
Poison
I was at the bar, shake, breakin’ and takin’ ’em all
And that night I played the wall
Checkin’ out the fellas, the highs and lows
Keepin’ one eye open, still clockin’ the h**s
There was one particular girl that stood out from the rest
Poison as can be, the high power chest
Michael Biv said that I’m runnin’ the show
Bell Biv DeVoe
Now you know
Yo’, Slick, blow
It’s drivin’ me out of my mind
That’s why it’s hard for me to find
Can’t get it out of my head
Miss her, kiss her, love her (Wrong move you’re dead)
That girl is poison
Never trust a big butt and smile
Poison
She’s dangerous
Poison (Oh yeah, oh, yeah)
Poison
Yo’ fellas, that was my end of
You know what I’m sayin’, Mike
Yeah, B.B.D. in full effect
Yo’, what’s up to Ralph T and Johnny G
And I can’t forget about my boy, B. Brown
And the whole NE crew
Speaking of Al B. Sure… Man, I was in love.

Al B Sure! can’t sing. His debut album, “In Effect Mode” is a classic though. Along with Guy’s debut album and Keith Sweat’s “Make It Last It Forever” LP, it is part of the New Jack trinity IMO.
So, you’re not a Jodeci fan? Why not? LOL. I wasn’t too big into them either. Until recently. They had some new album cuts.

One of my fave songs back in the day.

Al B. Sure’s album is a classic. There are a lot of artists who can’t sing. People say Mary J. Blige can’t sing (not my opinion). But Al B. definetly sex appeal and a hearthrob. There’s no denying that girls were in love with him and there is really no equivelant black R&B artists today with that type of appeal.

I think that (black) girls were more in love with Al’s “look” than him. If you catch my drift. Wink. Wink.
Al couldn’t even carry a tune. I remember seeing that man perform live back in the day. It was awful. Audience members were shooting each other quizzical looks. LOL.
There’s plenty of other black R&B artists who came in Al’s wake who had way more appeal and success than him. Yet, everyone is granted their opinion.

LMAO – about Mr Sure not being able to sing. I thought it was just his looks too that kept him alive musically, if that is what you call it, and that in ten years we would all look back and see how terrible he truly was. But while he is certainly no Marvin Gaye or Luther Vandross and has somewhat limited talents, he surprised even me.

Yeah, “In Effect Mode” is a classic, like I said above. The whole album, front to back, still holds up 21 (it’s been that long?) years later. Al is also a fairly decent producer (the ballads off of Jodeci’s first album; Tevin Campbell’s debut) but his lack of vocal talent influenced his relatively short 15 minutes of fame. He actually has a new album out now.
So, Aba, you aren’t big into Jodeci. What other New Jack Swing stuff do you look back fondly on now?

Yeah, I was speaking of his looks when I said appeal. I don’t see any other men out now that make girls lose their minds like he did (o.k. maybe the Jonas Brothers).lol
If that was how he was able to make a name for himself then, hey. He got a lot further than most of us ever will. Women use their looks all of the time to get ahead.
Then again, I’m partial. I’ve loved Al B. since I was a kid and you’re always going to defend your first crush.:)

Ha… you have to admit, this song is very catchy! But he is not handsome… he looks like a clown! He’s one of those guys who’s attractiveness can never be whittled down to specific qualities.
