This is by far my favourite Taylor Swift song, not that I was ever a fan of her music. It came out in 2022 and has since become a number-one song throughout the Anglosphere, parts of South-East Asia and elsewhere on the planet.
My favourite part:
Sometimes I feel like everybody is a sexy baby
And I’m a monster on the hill
Too big to hang out, slowly lurching toward your favorite city
Pierced through the heart, but never killed
In the US, Time magazine has just named her Person of the Year for 2023. She is the first person of song this side of 1927 to be put on a level with popes, presidents, Gandhi and Hitler. Even before Time magazine, La Viquipèdia (the Catalan Wikipedia) said she is “una destacada figura cultural del segle XXI” – an outstanding cultural figure of the 21st century. Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. She has appeared here before murdering an Earth, Wind & Fire song.

Lyrics:
I have this thing where I get older, but just never wiser
Midnights become my afternoons
When my depression works the graveyard shift
All of the people I’ve ghosted stand there in the room
I should not be left to my own devices
They come with prices and vices
I end up in crisis
(Tale as old as time)
I wake up screaming from dreaming
One day I’ll watch as you’re leaving
‘Cause you got tired of my scheming
(For the last time)
It’s me, hi, I’m the problem, it’s me
At teatime, everybody agrees
I’ll stare directly at the Sun, but never in the mirror
It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero
Sometimes I feel like everybody is a sexy baby
And I’m a monster on the hill
Too big to hang out, slowly lurching toward your favorite city
Pierced through the heart, but never killed
Did you hear my covert narcissism
Lightly disguised as altruism
Like some kind of congressman?
(Tale as old as time)
I wake up screaming from dreaming
One day I’ll watch as you’re leaving
And life will lose all of its meaning
(For the last time)
It’s me, hi, I’m the problem, it’s me (I’m the problem, it’s me)
At teatime, everybody agrees
I’ll stare directly at the Sun, but never in the mirror
It must be exhausting, always rooting for the anti-hero
I have this dream my daughter-in-law kills me for the money
She thinks I left them in the will
The family gathers around and reads it and someone screams out
She’s laughing up at us from hell
It’s me, hi, I’m the problem, it’s me
It’s me, hi, I’m the problem, it’s me
It’s me, hi, everybody agrees, everybody agrees
It’s me, hi, I’m the problem, it’s me (I’m the problem, it’s me)
At teatime, everybody agrees (everybody agrees)
I’ll stare directly at the Sun, but never in the mirror
It must be exhausting, always rooting for the anti-hero

This song is hot garbage. It is the anthem of a future cat lady having a glass of red wine to wash down a raft of antidepressants. Taylor Swift has a wonderful voice (“You Belong With Me” is one of my favorite songs ever). However, her recent stuff is so self-centered and puerile it’s not worth listening to.
When I see Taylor these days, I just feel very sad for her. She had the opportunity for real happiness, but has traded it for fame and fortune that obviously isn’t fulfilling her much (see her recent songs). She could have found a nice boy, married and had kids. Instead, she dated a bunch of bad boys (which may or may not be a cover for lesbian activities–CDAN is right most of the time https://www.crazydaysandnights.net/2022/03/todays-blind-items-first-shoe-drops.html) and wrote songs about them. Maybe the latest one, Travis Kelce, will give her a family and kids, but that’s not the way to bet. When a woman dates a lot of different alpha men she loses her ability to pair bond.
Taylor always seemed to be the innocent, “good girl”, but has come out as an advocate for the same kind of moral filth as George Soros. She has supported the party responsible giving us the war in Ukraine that has already resulted in 500K-1,000,000 deaths, the vast majority of whom were Ukrainians, in a pointless and unwinnable war that has further impoverished average people in the US, while lining the pockets of oligarchs here and in Ukraine. Taylor now has so much money that she’s completely detached from reality. It’s heartbreaking to watch.
