This is so sad. I was living in Detroit’s Cass Corridor back in the early/mid 1980’s. At that time, there was still some rubble and leftover destruction from the ’67 riots, but not much, the area was feeling a bit of a rebirth and there was a sense at the grassroots that things were going to get better. Alas, Detroit’s economy is so heavily based on the American automobile industry, which has seen steady declines since then. It doesn’t help that Detroiters seem to enjoy electing bottom feeder scum to the position of Mayor — guys who bleed the city dry for the benefit of themselves and their cadre. It just feels at a visceral level like the end is drawing nigh for places like Detroit, Gary, Toledo, etc.

I thought it was pretty shocking. I knew Detroit has been in a steep decline, but I did not think it was as bad as that.

I was nine when my mother sold our home and we were on a Greyhound bus leaving Detroit during the rioting…It hurts to see your home and home-town go up in flames. I hope it never happens again.
