Eric Rudolph (1966- ), a Christian American terrorist, is best known as the Olympic Park Bomber. For 18 months the FBI had no idea who he was. For another five years they could not find him – despite one of the biggest manhunts in American history. He is now in a high-security prison in Colorado serving four life terms.
His bombings:
- 1996: Atlanta: concert at the Olympics
- 1997: Atlanta: abortion clinic
- 1997: Atlanta: lesbian bar
- 1998: Birmingham, Alabama: abortion clinic
In all he killed two and injured at least 150, comparable to the Boston Marathon bombers.
The bomb at the Olympics would have been far deadlier if Richard Jewel, a security guard, did not see the bomb before it went off. For his pains he had his life turned upside down by the FBI as their main suspect – leaving Rudolph free to bomb again.
The FBI did not know it was Rudolph till Birmingham – when someone caught part of the plate number on his truck.
Rudolph fled to the mountains of North Carolina where he had grown up, where people were on his side, where he knew how to live in the woods, where he used to hide in caves and mines as a boy.
He was one of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted – with a $1 million (187,000 crowns) reward on his head. The FBI sent over 200 men. They sent helicopters that could see his body heat. They spent $24 million (5 million crowns) – no luck, though it did prevent further bombings.
After five years Rudolph grew careless. The police found him one morning in 2003 behind a Save-A-Lot food shop. He was thin but clean-shaven and wearing new shoes. They thought he was just a robber – till they took his fingerprints.
Rudolph admitted his guilt and handed over his remaining dynamite to avoid death row.
He thinks he should be punished for the Olympic Park bombing: it went terribly wrong. He was trying to make the American government look bad, not kill people.
He is not sorry about the Birmingham bombing: the security guard he killed knew he was guarding a place that kills dozens of unborn children every week.
Views:
- Religion: old-school Catholicism. Does not believe in Christian Identity, that Jesus saves only white people.
- Government: the American government lost its moral authority in 1973 by allowing abortion – just as the British government had in 1773 when it taxed tea without representation.
- Abortion: is murder. It has claimed the lives of 50 million Americans. He has a moral duty to do what he can to stop it. Since he sees little chance of the Republicans stopping it through peaceful means, he has resorted to violent ones.
- Homosexuality: a threat to marriage and family, the building blocks of society.
- Multiculturalism: will lead to division, violence and, in time, civil war. Everyone in America should assimilate into a common Western culture. The West is best.
- Racism: mainly affects whites, like through affirmative action. He does not believe in scientific racism: biological determinism is so 1899. Civil rights reforms in the 1960s ended institutional racism against blacks.

By the way, Rudolph isn’t a “revolutionary.” He’s a murdering terrorist. Killing non-political, non-military targets is terror, not revolution.

Yeah, this sob should be hung by the balls….this is the kind of crud i despise as much as any fundamentalist Islamic bomber, they are the same, and deserve each other
I absolutly wouldnt care if they didnt read him his rights and sent him to Guantanamo…I think people , especialy in the name of religion, who plan to set off bombs in public, should be put in a differant catagory as regular crime, there should be differant rules and ways to deal with them
I cant stand fundamentalist religious crud who think their religion gives them the right to take other peoples lives..take the abortion doctor killers, Rudolph, kerich, the whole lot and stick them with fundamentalist Islamic bombers and Jewish extremists who killed like that, and they can kiss my behind
Gees, I guess a lot of people are eating crow wishing beyond all their dreams that the Boston marathon bombers hadnt been acting on religious fundamentalism (also insulting real practicioners of their religion, because they were pseudo religious)..then they got their conspiricy theories all screwed up by the police not killing the other bomber, so they are going to hear the truth…and , it really took the wind out of the banshee screamers when they did actualy read him his maranda rights
Gosh, the most hilarious things of all, if there hadnt been so much blood and guts done to the people , this sob ran over his brother, and that is what killed him…and some people are trying to be sympathetic to him…pathetic
Ive seen so much BS commentary by posters on the news articles , I mean real BS from all sides, real ignorance
amazing, Abagond, you are backing into the Boston marthon bombings talking about Rudolph….fine with me, I hate this scum bag as much as anyone out there

Yes,Legion, I woudnt want justice up to me…because I would hang these scum, like Rudolph by the balls, and maybe crash some cement and glass over their bodies so they can feel what they have caused
But, I disagree with you to this extent, I think these bombings for religious purposes, and Rudolph definitly fits into that with his abortion clinic bombings, are something differant, and need a differant aproach and laws..I dont know what they should exactly be, I just dont think the laws on the books now are addressing the reality on the ground…they are inadequate to deal with the real problem and need to be changed
I would include any bombings or mass murders in this, but, for sure, religioius motivated acts demand even more attention because in their dogmad minds, their religion sanctions these actions…they have lost any judgement at that point ..and,. as you can see with Rudolph, there can be other people in the viscinty who beleive the same and more than willing to help him out…that seperates it from the nut job that got his combat weapons and goes after crowds, but, i want laws that slow them up too, like changes in the ridiculous gun laws….I mean you do see that those laws are off base, so these other laws are off base as far as people who have bombed people for dogmad religious beleifs…and they definitly dont represent their religions, but , there are people who feel like they do so they help them…go after them , too..I dont want them protected…I want ways for the government to penetrate them
Its one thing if people share the same beleifs and another if they act on it and get help
I dont buy this thing about laws for everyone, when there should be some laws that directly address the type people who decide to clandestinly make bombs to use on people …its like the TSA pulling old people out of the line to frisk them to make it seem like they have to be doing this to everyone..at some point there needs to be some logic that addresses the real problem, something like background checks when a person buys a ticket…not at the gate for a horse and pony show
revspitz, ridiculas logic…thank god the USA has legalised abortions…this is a desician made by a woman and her body…
Fuk all the logic like abortion clinics are baby killers and the USA bombs Islamic children, it can kiss my behind

A baby is someone who was born or birthed, usually an infant, and so abortions don’t kill babies.

“Is that really so? You make him sound almost noble. If your sister came to you and said,”I’m pregnant, I’m going to get an abortion.” Would a correct response be to hurl a grenade at her and blow her up? It’s an absurd response, no? Well, why is Mr. Rudolph a hero when he carries out this reponse on a mass scale?”—I like how you put this response. I also would like to note that many people don’t realize that in blowing up these abortion clinics that Rudolph could have possibly not only killed the fetus, but also killed the mother that was carrying it. More harm than good was done in his insane attempts.

Abortion is only for women who have been raped or if they are homeless and cant take care- the catholic church agrees with these two cases.SOme people use abortion as birth control and in 2013 this is NO excuse for this with all the birth control available…unless you live in afghanistan or a tent somewhere in africa there shoudl be no excuse to have an abortion. In canada some cultures do a test and if the neonate is a girl they have it aborted- they are chinese and some indians from indian and I believe there may be others- this is not religious based it is based on the idea that a male is worth more than a female and this should be OUTLAWED in Canada it is against western values and demeans women. Also what should a woman do if she is very very poor and cant even feed herself is she to have the baby? Welfare in canada has been cut to 1960 levels so peop le can barely pay rent and eat with the high taxes and rising cost of food, hydro etc….due to liberal minimanagement- save that or another day that have ruined my country!!!!!!!!!!

There is no comparison to an abortion doctor and what islamic extremists are doing around the world. The extremists have one goal to convert or kill every person who is not one of them and they feel they are superior and they are racists who are infiltrating foreign countries to push their agenda. They al so want gays killed, women would have to hide in their homes and cover their hair so they can use they hair cover for sex as they dont have toilet p aper in the middle east moslem countries they dont even have wrigleys gum or a sewing machine! They are very evil and evil begets evil just like way back in the 70s those cults that were in the deep south in the USA……when people have nothing to be proud of in their culture- they turn to whatever line people are feeding them iand in this case its the mullahs who are making up l ies about nonbelievers and they work just like a cult does. You have to defend another moslem no matter what. A male is worth 4 times what a female is (but in north america a woman is worth more!)……..etc……..

No, there is no comparison to an Islamic bomber and an abortion doctor, every woman should be in charge of their body and if they want an abortion
But, there is a tremendous similarity to a scum like Rudolph and Islamic fundamentalist bombers
Legion, laws are relative and they change all th time….if you knew that you could find out about the Alabama church bombers that killed four little girls, and it was ilegal, but, if you used it you could get them before they did it…you would do it…wouldnt you? I would be disapointed if you said no…and, if by some waterboard torture, you could get out of one of them , the location of a place more of them were stashing weapons and making plans to bomb other churches where there could be black kids…or any kids…you would do it , wouldnt you? I would.
There is a differance between entrapment for drugs or prostitution and entrapment for someone who is willing to set off a bomb somewhere in a public place…where I would abhor entrapment for drugs or prostitution, i feel differantly about it in relationship to someone who is willing to set a bomb off in public somewhere…
Im really perplexed by the amount of people screaming like banshees about reading Miranda rights to lets say…um let me see if I can think of an example …oh, this Boston marathon bomber…for example ( I mean come on, this is what this is all about, this is what its leading to this week….)…I mean people are going screaming banshee about it, but , people dont really care that thousands of Americans are arrested just for marijuana possecian and thrown in jail and do time…those laws are bad laws …but, if you dont read the Miranda rights to a guy that was obviously the one who did these bombings and it was on camera they killed a law officer and they seriously wounded another and were setting off bombs at the police…well, that is just the hight of government represion to not read him the Miranda rights….guess what, they did read him his rights…
Im really angry at the horrible comments Ive seen all week on all sides, I havent even commented at all, so, Im ticked off and dont want to go off on a forum because of my anger…the comments on this blog couldnt be worse than what Ive seen out there on regular news paper web sites,
But, I dont respect anyone who would defend Rudolph in any way, he is as bad as any Islamic fundamentalist bomber, and, as these kind of bombings and mass shootings increase, we need laws and ways to use technology and to get people to turn them in, because he is scum, and, we havent been inundated with so many bombing and shootings in public places like now,we need knew ways to deal with it

Just wanted to make a point of clarification about the word “baby.” If revspitz wants to change the definition of the word “baby,” that’s fine, but until then, saying that abortions are “killing babies” is just not true. That would be illegal almost anywhere on earth.
@ Jane
I have my own opinions about abortions, but since I’m incapable of giving birth, I shouldn’t have a vote on the issue. Although you may be able to give birth (assuming you are female), you too have no right to control what another woman does with her own body. If you want to place restrictions on yourself then fine. Whatever reason someone else has for aborting is none of your business.
Making laws to outlaw what a woman (or anyone else) can do with her own body is both an invasion of privacy and repressive to say the least.

I’m not going to weigh in on whether abortion itself is right or wrong but I will state that bombing clinics is not the way to protest the issue. And I can in no way support that .
I need to point out that in destroying abortion clinics they are also destroying places that provide important prenatal care and information. Abortion clinics do more than provide abortions, sometimes for an entire geographic area.
Jane: you made the comment about birth control. For some people, in some areas, birth control is not so readily available. Some abortion clinics provide that and may be the only places where these women can get birth control with any degree of privacy.
Even so, destroying a clinic is not the answer, even if you believe abortion should only be available to women and young girls who are raped. Where then, will such unfortunate young women get abortions and proper prenatal care and information if you have destroyed the only clinic within several hundred miles of them. Some of these clinics are in rural areas. They may be the only such place for a hundred miles where they could go for private counseling and information. How is blowing it up helping anybody but the blower to feel good about himself. He’s not just endangered the lives of the people who work there but the lives of all the mothers and the unborn, in the entire area, who now cannot then receive proper care or information.
I don’t understand why people want to have it both ways. They insist that you shouldn’t have kids if you can’t afford them or take care of them then turn around and state that a person should be forced to carry their rapist’ or their father’s or brother’s or uncle’s progeny to term. (Utterly horrific idea, that turns my stomach btw.) Does not anyone see any contradiction in that?

If you can’t afford condoms, how can you afford an abortion?
If a woman can get an abortion at will, give her child up for adoption at will, can we really force men to pay child support?

“they mostly seem to be about destroying the medical and social infrastructure that make abortion an avenue of choice”—I wonder if they have thought to realize that doing this will not stop it? I guess perhaps they think the fear will make them stop performing abortions, but overall it really seems they don’t truly think these choices through.

Yes, Legion, obviously I used the example of the Alabama church bombings so it would have to be black kids in that situation, and I added all kids to emphasis the point…but in the Alabama church bombings its obviously black kids…funny you harp on that but dont answer the question
You know, laws change all the time to meet on going realities, when there was the Lindberg kidnappings and murder of his child, new rules came in the USA to break heavy on kidnappings…in Brazil, kidnappings were part of the far left revolution tactics , so, kidnappings arnt busted down on hard , so guess what, there are lots of incidents of kidnappings in the present they call “sequester relampago” lightning kidnappings where they kidnap individuals and take them around getting bank money from bank cards or holding them for ransom…they even kidnap poor people and get low sums…it was rampant for a while
I think these waves of mass murders and bombings related to religious extremism, is something that has escalated and there needs to be new ways to go after it
I understand and champion the call for government to not turn into big brother in our daily lives, but, I support the authorites having ways to bear down hard on any suspect hoarding weapons and with a trail of interest in radical outlits
I dont understand people not getting that, the differance between backing off entrapments for drugs and prostituion and bearing down on suspects who there are enough flags raised to take a look at them..
there should be absolute checks and balances so it isnt abused, I definitly agree with that and i suggest this is new terratory that we havent discovered the best way to deal with it….we have laws on one side and laws on the other that let people own military assault weapons…so laws are merely on the books and can be subject to change as society goes forward and discovers the mistakes of some laws

Ok,Legion, thanks for your answer..Im in more agreement than disagreement…I certainly dont want wanton torture , I only say that dealing with someone who is planning to bomb a public space , or shoot it up, is escalating , in the world, and, there has to be new ways to deal with it..and, I would agree the checks and balances to go along with it…
I didnt use the Lindberg case as using torture, only as an example how certain events change laws in one country and those events in a differant context (kidnapping in Brazil being used by those against the military dictatorships) in a differant country have other outcomes
Guantanamo only works for me if the people in there are truly people who were involved in plotting against the USA, there is very little room in my mind for error if it is to be valid….but if it is a person plotting against the USA and supporting people who are going to make plans to do destuction, I have nothing against it…because there is no cut and dried way how to deal with it and the banshee screamers against it dont have any satisfying solution only screaming about rights being violated
The “oh he is a USA citizen how can you do that to them…” doesnt affect me at all if they signed over to do destructive things to the USA , again there is no room for error if that is to work, and of course there has been error…and, I fully endorce sending Eric Rudoph to Guantanamo, along with all the other abortion doctor killers and Christian fundamentalist terrorist bombers and Aryan nation and neo Nazi KKK violent offenders…in my mind there is very little differance, and they all deserve to be with each other
Im much more concerned about the thousand upon thousands of people being held in incarcaratiom for just possecian of marijuana, I mean this is much more oppresive and destructive to society than bending on the rights of people suspected of getting ready to set a bomb off in a public space, and it boggles my mind the people who are screaming out about that but dont say a word about huge numbers of people unfairly jailed for just having some marijuana
If any one out here doesnt have a family member or colleague out in this world who uses marijuana, you are living in a narrow space , these unjust laws severly affect more people than what is going on with dealing with bombings now
