Osama bin Laden (1957- ) is the head of Al Qaeda, the world’s most successful terror network. He is fighting a holy war against the West for the Muslim world.
He fought as a field commander against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan in the 1980s. He saw it driven out of Afghanistan and then fall apart, ending over a hundred years of Russian rule of Muslim lands in Central Asia.
Bin Laden hopes to do the same to America in the Middle East and make the United States of America the Disunited States. He has been at war with America since 1996.
Osama’s dream is to bring back the glory days of the Caliphate when the whole Muslim world was under one ruler, in one empire. Such an empire would have the bomb as well as most of the oil in the world. It could bring America to its knees.
Bin Laden has been kicked out of three countries: Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Afghanistan. He is said to be hiding in the mountains in north-west Pakistan. The Americans dearly want his head, but the government of Pakistan, which is playing both sides, cannot turn him over without falling.
Osama Bin Laden is a tall, thin man with a long greying beard who walks with a staff. He is an Arab but dresses like an Afghan. Although he is worth millions, he lives like a poor holy man – with a machine gun – in the mountains. He has four wives and 24 children. He is the son of Saudi Arabia’s richest builder. His father died when he was ten.
He talks like he comes from the past: he does not talk about “Americans”, “Saudi Arabia” and “Afghanistan”, as I just have, but of “Crusaders”, the “Arab Peninsula” and “Khorasan”. He even writes in Arabic the way it is in the Koran.
What persuaded Bin Laden that he could take on America was not just his experience in Afghanistan against the Soviet Union, but Somalia: Six months after Al Qaeda had killed 18 American soldiers there in 1993, America left Somalia with its tail between its legs. This showed him that America was just a “paper tiger”, that it lacked the patience and courage of even the Soviet Union.
In 1996 he informed the world that he was at war with America. He wants to push America out of the Middle East, overthrow Saudi Arabia and support the overthrow of the other American-supported rulers in the region.
His crowning achievement in this war so far came in 2001 with 9/11 when he destroyed the twin towers in New York and killed thousands of Americans. But it has only greatly increased the American military presence in the Middle East.
America has since driven him out of Afghanistan and closed his training camps. They have killed his man in Baghdad, al-Zarqawi.
Still, Bin Laden may be right that in the end America lacks the courage and patience to stay the course.

If America leave us ( Islamic world)alone and do not supply the Israel who kills us with weapons and support no one would harmed them, but what is happening to America is that it got presidents who are not looking for America’s interests but to their individual interests or party’s interests and forgot about america’s(people)interest,also around the world specially south America the Americans are not very wellcomed because of the selfish policies in that region and if america only listens to power and violence then you will have them specially from true muslims ( who believes death in the cause of Allah is a new born in the live after and spiritually alive after our bodies dies !!? ), we just don’t hate Americans they are ( at least some of them) good and respectable but their government policies.

America indeed must stop its expansion, however the MUSLIM world has a responsibility to bring dirtbags like Bin Laden to justice. Bin Laden believes that it is right to murder innocent women and children who have done nothing wrong. That is unacceptable… America has to stop, but we(Muslims throughout the world) must stop encouraging thuggish behavior.

ignoring the fact that this article is out of date, i want someone to explain: how did bin Laden coordinate 9/11? the western media is so sure he did it but how? that’s never explained. which of his men hijacked the planes, and when & how? how did they even know how to fly planes?
furthermore, where did western news keep getting videos of him making all these claims? did he post them to them or something, or put them out on youtube? if he really did declare war on usa and went into hiding, why would he make videos of himself & thereby risk having his whereabouts found out? that makes no sense.
to bring this topic up to date, on the day of his death how come no news reports showed his face? where did they get this idea that giving him a normal burial would encourage others to make a shrine out of him? muslims don’t make shrines of anyone, at least not true ones. interesting how they didn’t use this logic for the execution of Saddam Hussein.
and where has his “global terror network” gone? did all the other members of al-qaeda just shoot themselves, unable to bear life without him (assuming they ever existed)?
too many unanswered questions for the story to be believable.
