Lauren London (1984- ) is an up-and-coming black actress in Hollywood. She is best known for playing New New, T.I.’s girlfriend in the film “ATL” (2006).
Although she is well known in certain circles, she is not a household name – yet. Loretta Divine, who played her mother in “This Christmas” (2007) says, “She has such a strong presence – that mixture of class, innocence and girl-next-door beauty. She should rock this industry.”
London does have a sweet and innocent-looking beauty. She is light-skinned with long black hair and beautiful dark eyes. She looks even better in person than on film.
Even though she does not see herself as all that desirable, it seems that the readers of King magazine cannot get enough of her. She appeared on the cover in 2006, was in the magazine again in 2007, and in 2008 was still third on the magazine’s request-o-meter. Only the singers Rihanna and Alicia Keys were in greater demand.
But she is not just another one of Hollywood’s brainless beauties. She is wise beyond her years – maybe because life was so rough for her growing up. She says it helps her to be a better actress.
She is not so much interested in becoming rich and famous as in becoming a great actress. She wants parts in films that will make her a better actress, not a necessarily a famous one. She hopes to win the Oscar one day.
Her mother is black, her father is white They broke up when she was three, but it seems her father has stayed in her life. Her mother almost did not have her: she was only 20 and still at university at UCLA. London grew up in West Los Angeles and nearby in Pasadena. She was homeschooled in the last years of high school so she could get into acting.
In 2003 she started appearing in hip hop videos, like those of Snoop Dog, Young Gunz and especially Pharrell. She did it only to get some experience, not as an end in itself. She will still do videos on rare occasion.
When she appeared in King in 2006 she was in a two-piece swimsuit. In 2007 she was much more covered up. It matches how she is entering a more serious stage in her acting.
She has appeared on television as Monay in “Everybody Hates Chris” and as Turtle’s girlfriend in “Entourage” on HBO.
Rap guy’s girlfriend: She has reportedly been the girlfriend of rappers Lil Wayne, and Neef of Young Gunz . Right now she has little time for a serious love life. Which makes her a bit afraid for her future: she does not want to wind up like Oprah, rich and famous but without a family of her own.
She says that if she was alone on a desert island with her perfect man he would climb the tree to get the coconut and let her eat first. Makes you kind of wonder about Lil Wayne.

I agree with your assessment — Lauren London is indeed beautiful and she is wise beyond her years. But there are a couple of errors in your post: 1. Lauren’s mother is black; her father is white. 2. She never dated T.I. – she is friends with T.I.’s longtime girlfriend Tiny Cottle.

I find that the beauty of a white woman is overrated and pales in comparision to ours. That is an opinion of mine. Agabond, I think you were very fair in what you said about Caj’s comment. I am white, but I happen to find women of color very attractive, especially African-descended women, which you heavily feature in your blog. That is one of the reasons I visit and post frequently.
However, I think it is wrong and immature to put down women of any group. Caj’s comments were demeaning to women of African descent, but then other posters made demeaning comments about Caucasian women. They are no better. I hope some folks get the message that is OK to state their preference without adding unnecessary disparaging comments.

I am guilty of that myself, putting down some women in order to express what I like in others in terms of physical beauty. I agree with most of what When the Afrolatin lover said in comment #21, for example, but he did not put it in the best way. I doubt he meant any harm by it, but you have to keep in mind that this is the Internet so women of all sorts from all over the world read these comments.

My problem with Caj’s post is not the fact that he is voicing his opinions (which I respect), but the fact that he labeled her “black”. She is bi-racial. Although it may not be the case, he and several people think that when an individual is even partially African American that they are “just black” and completely exclude them from the white race.

I am an older male in his 60″s. In my time I loved all sorts of woman. Some White, some Black, and then some Oriental. Each one of these races taught me one thing. A woman is a woman, to be cherished and loved. There is no ugly in womanhood. Every woman is made to conceive life. That my friends makes every woman a gift from God. We as men should always honor and respect all women. That means not only the white women of the world but all women in the world.I thank God everyday for the creation of women. I’ll never understand why some people live to give such backhanded “compliments”. Caj, if you prefer white women, it’s no skin off my nose. But please try to refrain from insulting others in making your preferences known. I adore and prefer Black men, but I don’t have to tear down men of other ethnicities to do it. It is possible to prefer a certain ethnicity’s attractiveness and still appreciate another’s. If I see a handsome man of another ethnicity, I simply state it without adding a disclaimer like you did. Relax! The sky is not going to cave in because a woman who is not of your preference is attractive.

Re: Lauren’s skin color. I don’t think there is any way to point out someone’s physical traits without sounding a bit biased. But it does seem a bit “off” the way light skin and hair is mentioned on this blog. If I had a blog and made posts about certain black men mentioning their “light skin” and “curly hair” in reference to their beauty, I’m sure it would raise more than a few eyebrows amongst black men and others.

Maybe it’s just me, but I really don’t pay attention to skin tones or much of any thing. Somebody just looks good to me and that’s it. I don’t know why. I don’t even care.

2. I wrote the post before I added any pictures, which is how I do most of my posts. I try to make the post as independent of any pictures as possible because a) sometimes I am forced to change the picture and b) my posts sometimes appear without the pictures, like in Google. More here:

I think it is subjective, no matter your country of origin. I’ve heard many a black American (and white American) refer to Lauren or those similar in complexion as light-skinned.

As to how my journey brought me to your blog … I was about to shut it down over here for the night but checked my e-mail. There was a BlackPlanet link regarding Lauren London, announcing that she’s “pregnant again.” (Don’t you just love the biases even with Black media? And, yeah, I’m being very sarcastic.)
Anyhow, I went to Google to obtain a second source of information because no matter what “race,” “color” and/or ethnicity manages or owns a media source, it is not superior to any other media source. While Googling, I came across your blog’s link. I am glad I did.
Now that I’m totally entertained and exhausted from reading all of those comments about caj and LL, I came to this comment box to ask you only two questions that aren’t related to either of them:
1)What is the title of the painting featured in your blog header. I love it!
2) Who is (was) the painter? I don’t know why I’m feeling Romare Bearden or Jacob Lawrence when I look at it, but I am.

And please, please, please keep up the excellent content, conceptualization, art and design on your blog! My impression, after reading all of the comments, is that healing takes one person at a time. I realize that when it comes to the Black Experience (and the Black Existential Experience — don’t get me started on that), one issue bleeds into another, and then another, until we’re hurting with the psychic pain of an open wound. That wound is a crater that’s still bleeding because an infection — comprised of racism but also of self-hatred-by-multigenerational-conditioning from “majority” society — is still present. There doesn’t appear to be an antibiotic powerful enough to kill that infection. That huge wound hasn’t fully healed since the Trans-Atlantic slave trade … the Middle Passage … the African Holocaust.
Yeah, I needed to vent, too.

Personally I think White women’s looks are overrated and I agree with Afrolatinos 100% The only thing is he or she didn’t word it right. And Lauren London is mixed, half Black half White. She is a very beautiful girl and I would love to see her more on TV. I still like Lauren London to some degree but I didn’t like how she went with Lil Wayne and had his baby. I saw what the baby looked like and the baby, Thank God for this, looks like her instead of Lil Wayne. I find her to be cute.. That’s about it. But she does have some of the physical characteristics that whites have used to trigger “attractiveness” mainly in blacks, cute keen features, long hair (weave) she is “black” but not too black looking.

I think she is very pretty, Her relationship with Lil Wayne has me scratching my head, can’t quite understand why she was attracted to him except that he is a rich rap artist. So he can take care of her and her child when she can’t find work as an actress.

I have a feeling Caj may be black… As for his/her comment, I also agree, and this is just my opinion, that European women are more attractive than full black women IN GENERAL. Of course, I’m not claiming that this is the absolute truth for everyone.
On the other hand, I think mixed-race women are more beautiful than both black and white women. Lauren London is mixed-race, which means that naturally she’s more attractive than most black women (and even white women). This is all just my opinion of course. I have a thing for “exoticness”. I’m white btw.
