“Shithole countries” is what the US president calls countries of Black and Brown people.
On January 11th 2018 President Trump said:
“Why do we want all these people from Africa here? They’re shithole countries … We should have more people from Norway.”
and:
“Why do we need more Haitians? Take them out.”
“Shithole” is a vulgar term for anus.
Trump reportedly believes all Haitians have AIDS and that most if not all Nigerians live in huts.
The New York Times said Trump’s remarks were:
“the latest example of his penchant for racially tinged remarks denigrating immigrants”
The Daily Stormer, a racially-tinged neo-Nazi website:
“This is encouraging and refreshing, as it indicates Trump is more or less on the same page as us with regards to race and immigration.”
Twitter user Educating Liberals (@Education4Libs) said:
“Trump just has the balls to verbalize what all of us think.”
Mia Love was the only elected Republican, so far as I know, who immediately condemned Trump:
“This behavior is unacceptable from the leader of our nation … The president must apologize to both the American people and the nations he so wantonly maligned.”
She noted that his remarks were:
“unkind, divisive, elitist, and fly in the face of our nation’s values.”
Her parents come from Haiti.
Stephen Colbert on late-night television:
“Sir, they’re not [bleep] countries. For one, Donald Trump isn’t their president.”
The United Nations called Trump’s words “racist”. But they do not seem to be well-informed: they also called them “shocking”.
Memory lane: Donald Trump, on the very first day of his campaign for president, said:
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
White people in the US voted for Trump by a landslide. Not just the working class, not just rednecks who frequent bars, not just racist uncles, but across the board: rich and poor, well-educated and ill-educated, aunts, uncles and cousin Joeys. They chose him as their leader with their eyes wide open. The same goes for Republicans in Congress who continue to kiss up to him, and for Fox News which continues to lie for him.
Immigration: Trump’s comments make crystal clear that his concern for immigration has little to do with “making America safe” or anything like that, and has everything to do with racism. It is a dog-whistle issue just like “law and order” and “terrorism”. It dresses itself up as some Serious National Issue but it is just raw racial bigotry.
People from those “shithole countries” built the US for little or nothing – and gave their lives to defend it. How many soldiers buried at Arlington came from “shithole countries”? Colin Powell’s parents came from a “shithole country” – and while he was fighting in Vietnam, Trump was where? Fighting chlamydia.

The twitter comment is correct, Donald Trump says what most white Americans think about black and brown people. I doubt any of them are sincerely upset by Trump’s remarks. Trump is white America’s retaliation for electing a black man as President.

According to incarceration statistics worldwide, the USA is a shithole country.
Incarceration rate (Prisoners per 100,000 population): USA 693, Haiti 102. Your shithole USA locks up people 6.79 times more than Haiti. No country in Africa comes close to matching the USA.

Don’t believe for one second that the vast majority of white people are upset about tRump referring to undeveloped countries as “shithole” places. He committed the most unholy of things. That is, … to publicly express what the vast majority of what white people REALLY think of black and brown people living in countries and in most instances, are being robbed of their natural resources by European nations that intentionally place them in such dilapidated conditions to begin with.
Such truthful statements amongst whites are usually reserved to be verbalized only behind closed doors.
Case and point: In 1988, sports analyst Jimmy the Greek stated: that blacks were “bred” to be better athletes than whites.” He was not only chastised by the public, both black and white, but summarily fired.

This image accurately describes the true relationship between Africa, Haiti and Latin America and the Global North (Europe, North America and East Asia).
Europeans, Americans, Canadians and East Asians who complain about and put down immigrants from “sh*thole countries” are grossly ignorant about who supports whom in the global economy.
Mawuna Koutonin wrote an eye-opening expose about the continued French looting of Africa on the Silicon Africa site in 2014. A lot of people know about the plunder that went on during the Colonial period. However, a lot of people are unaware of the “colonial tax” the French still levy on “independent” African countries as a condition of their “independence”.
Failure to pay the “colonial tax” opens African countries to malicious destruction of a country’s assets and military coups. Koutonin notes:
http://siliconafrica.com/france-colonial-tax/
White Supremacists who spew the same ignorant garbage about “sh*thole countries” that Trump expressed need to think about this scenario:
If you loot everything of value from a neighbors house down the street, can you still call your looted neighbor’s home a “sh*thole”? Can you complain when they want to come and live in your home (filled with their stolen possessions)? What would happen to your home if you had to start paying for all of the “free stuff” you have been plundering from your now impoverished neighbors?

Bingo.
Many so-called ‘3rd world’ countries do have problems but most of them were exploited colonies of various European countries until as recently as the 1960s and 70s. Their histories are histories of economic exploitation, slavery, genocide and revolt/resistance against such. Their official languages and religions were changed. Their borders were drawn by colonial powers; sometimes drawn over the natural linguistic and cultural boundaries.
Strangely, people sometimes find this concept hard to grasp despite America going to war for independence in the 18th century due to being aggrieved by colonial exploitation. In other places colonialism – in which those colonized were not white and were even more disenfranchised – continued until well into the 20th century. Cameroon gained political independence in 1960, Botswana in 1966, Uganda in 1962. America was older than that when it decided to go to war with itself. Those countries are also younger than many people who are alive and kicking today.
One notable exception is Haiti, which overthrew the French a mere decades after American colonists ousted the Brits. However, the US sided with the French because the French were their allies during the American Revolution and the Hatian Revolution was a slave revolt while the US still had slaves. In fact, the British, who Americans fought for freedom, would end slavery in its colonies by 1833 (IIRC, too lazy to check) while in the “land of the free”, abolition would have to wait until after 1865 and a bloody civil war.
However blacks would be treated blatantly like second class citizens until the Civil Rights Act of the 1960s which coincided with many independence movements occurring all over the world as the European powers experienced their post-WWII decline. The historical relationship between the “*****hole” countries and the European/American global power structure is mirrored (in miniature) in the historical relationship between African-Americans and the American politcal and economic system. The treatment of disaster-stricken Puerto Rico (a spoil of the Spanish-American war) is basically another object lesson in colonial neglect.

I don’t entirely agree with this claim because it leaves the native rulers off the hook. FRANCE DID NOT FORCE HAITI TO PAY THEM INDEMNIFICATION FOR LOSS OF THEIR COLONY. HAITIANS WERE THE ONES WHO PROPOSED TO PAY INSTEAD OF GOING TO WAR AGAINST FRANCE. THE FRENCH WANTED TO SIMPLY RECOLONIZE. The mass illiteracy is not the fault of foreign interests. How do you explain the near 100% literacy rate in British or French and other colonies in the Caribbean? The first and most serious attempt to educate the people was ended because the people in charge couldn’t be bothered. The loss of what is now the Dominican Republic was due to incompetence and foreign meddling. It is telling that the man who led Haiti to independence was murdered by Haitians working with foreign interests. It’s correct to recognize the fault of foreigners, but some Haitians had a hand in it as well. Not all Haitians were victims some are perpetrators.

That is true in all colonial plundering schemes. There are always a layer of native compradors, lackeys and flunkies willing to help in the oppression of their own people for a fee (or pats on the head).
Black America certainly has its share of servants to White power. From the Congressional Black Caucus to numerous Black mayors, Black state legislators, Black city council members, Black cops and Black hoodlums for hire, the internal colony of Black America is as misdirected, strip-mined for resources and thwarted as any overseas colony.

I’ve seen that conversation on other sites and it gets real ugly real fast.
Immigrants put down and complain about the native born using descriptions that would make a Klansman proud. Native born/slave descendant Black folk put down and criticize African and Afro-Caribbean immigrants like they never saw anyone Black outside of a Tarzan or Jungle Jim movie.
Both groups tend to see the other through the White gaze. It is toxic, demeaning and unrealistic for any group of Black folk to see other Black people through the eyes of those who fear and hate them. The only way out of it is for Black native born and Black immigrants to interact with each other as peers.
The times I have shared a project or a meal with Black individuals from Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Eritrea, the US Virgin Islands, St. Kitts and Costa Rica, I found many points of common ground. I found we shared similar food preparation methods. Religion and spirituality were important to all. Extended family were friends and friends were extended family. Elders were respected and children beloved. Card games and board games were occasions for mock arguments and raucous fun.
It is difficult to get to that point of sharing because of all of the noise and mistrust that separates both groups. I’ve found that if you can break through that barrier, it is so worth the time and energy. There is so much to be learned and appreciated.

^ That cultural chasm is common in between recent immigrants and 3rd and 4th
or nth generation people who share a similar racial or ethnic ancestry.
Hispanic Americans descendant from the inhabitants of the US prior to its acquisition of Northern Mexico will see little in common with recent Mexican migrants.
3rd and 4th generation Chinese Americans don’t see much eye-to-eye with the FOB crowd from China.
Jewish Americans whose ancestors settled in the USA before WWII may not feel much connection to Israeli immigrants.
What is different, however, is how African and West Indian immigrants are subject to the white gaze towards native slave-descendant black Americans. Their perception of each other comes from white mainstream media and education.

I’m surprised that Trump didn’t mention India. Why? Over 600 million Indians have no toilets and do their daily dump out in the open. In large cities the railway tracks are lined with the morning public crappers. Millions of dollars worth of funds go everywhere, including the pockets of bureaucrats and politicians, except for public toilets. Decades ago China solved a similar problem by constructing even multi-storeyed public baths and latrines.

You can’t make an immigration compromise around “sh|thole countries.” Now everyone knows that.
Then we should consider adding a link to the Chinese Exclusion Act post:
China was the original “sh!thole” country that the US did not want to accept immigrants from and prevented those already in the country from naturalizing. It was expanded, to exclude people of Chinese descent, not just from China. I am not saying that this should detract from the current rhetoric coming out of the White House, but we have a history and model of how the USA dealt with sh!thole countries in the past.

On so many levels, not just his racism: good manners, democratic norms, code-switching, the value of honesty and loyalty, of facts, the US as “a nation of immigrants”, as cosmopolitan, as being at the forefront of science, etc, etc, etc. He is like a hideous cartoon character come to life.

Since you do not mind quoting the President of United States’s inelegant, lavatorial and undiplomatic language to demonize him in a series of pretexts to have him impeached for not going to war with Russia, it is hoped that similar phrasing would not be edited or moderated, since it is done in context .

The same nose- in- the -air asehole critics have no compunction in raping the shthole countries to pieces, left for dead and then desecrating their carrion .
Now if Donald Trump talked nice like the nice people , making euphemistic references like ‘Third World’, ‘backward countries’, Sub-Saharan Africa, it would still be business as usual for the carrion-eaters.
The idiot is giving their game away -talk nice about the darkies while fcking them to smithereens up their shthole and make war against the Russians hackers which really is the most unforgivable act (forget about Pollard) so much so, that World War Three needs to be brought about just to show those Ruskies the denial of any wrong doing is still an act of subversion and needs to be punished by bringing the full military and nuclear might of the Greatest Power on Earth and be hailed as the best Prezzie like his chocolate predecessor.
But the fool is not doing that .
It might escape the author of this article that Donald Trump has been kissing the ar*sehole of the world -Israel and still they are ungrateful b!stards for his extreme brown-nosing . After all, the former President, that handsome and urbane yes-man, had done for Israel, you should be completely outraged at the epithets thrown his way. What can be more off putting than scrapingly brown-nosing the same odious country that attacked the USS Liberty and the Twin Towers, Building 7 and the Pentagon and has systematically tortured 150 000 Palestinians?
Now there is a country if you can call it that, that is a sh*thole country. Netanyahu comes from there and the master-minds and butchers of September 11.
Will you be doing a write-up of Trump’s brown-nosing of Israel? Not offensive enough to you and worthy of critique ? Only his undiplomatic language ? Since you are offended that Colin Powell is from one of those countries, perhaps you could similtaneosly examine his brown -nosing habits too.
The billions of dollars of tax-payers Donald Trump has to give to the shttiest of the lot and how the whole of the American Congress scrapes on bended knees to kiss Israel’s arse, except ex-Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, not worthy enough of critique for you?
