Tom Horne (1945- ) is an American lawyer and white Republican of the Tea Party sort. In 2012 he is the attorney general for the state of Arizona, but is best known for pushing HB 2281, Arizona’s ban on ethnic studies, during his term as the state superintendent of public schools (2003-2011).
Horne also fully supports SB 1070, the Arizona law that allows the police to stop anyone for their papers to prove they belong in the country.
He is for English-only instruction in schools.
In Horne v Flores (2009) parents in Nogales took Horne to court for not providing enough money to teach Latino children English. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court, which ruled 5-4 in Horne’s favour. Horne is proud that it saved Arizona taxpayers $300 million.
The Horne timeline:
- 1945: born in Montreal, Canada to Jewish parents who fled Poland in the late 1930s. Those of his family who stayed behind were killed by Hitler.
- 1954: Now an immigrant to the U.S., Horne becomes a citizen.
- 1963: goes to the March on Washington and hears Martin Luther King, Jr’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
- 1967: graduates Harvard magna cum laude.
- 1970: gets a law degree from Harvard Law.
- 1970: SEC bans him for life from trading securities for having lied to his customers and the SEC about his finances. He goes bankrupt – something he would later lie about too on government forms.
- 1972: Passes the Arizona bar. Practises law there for the next 30 years. Rated one of the most ethical lawyers in the state – by other lawyers.
- 1978-2002: member and later president of the Paradise Valley School Board in suburban Phoenix.
- 1997-2001: representative in Arizona’s House of Representatives
- 2003-2011: state superintendent of public schools. Pushes HB 2281. Requires Social Studies to teach more about the Greeks and Romans.
- 2011-present: state attorney general. Joins a lawsuit with other states to challenge Obamacare as unconstitutional.
In 2006 Chicano activist Dolores Huerta told high school students in Tucson that “Republicans hate Latinos.” When Horne sent his deputy to Tucson, some of the students turned their backs on her and raised their fists in the air.
From that point on Horne worked towards shutting down Mexican American Studies at Tucson. To do this he pushed a law to ban ethnic studies, HB 2281. The law was written in such a way that any ethnic studies programme could be banned, but it was applied to only one programme at one school district: Mexican American Studies at Tucson.
Horne says he is colour-blind. He says that knowing a person’s race tells you nothing about that person, that people should judged only as individuals. He quotes Martin Luther King, Jr that people should:
not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character.
Yet he applied HB 2281 only against Mexican American Studies, not against Pan-Asian or African American Studies at the same schools – much less against Social Studies, which he made even more Eurocentric.
Other policies and actions of his show the same pattern of favouring whites over Latinos. Because, apparently, that is what Martin would do.

Sounds like this dick is one of those old dying men who at the evening of their lives become extremely conservative and xenophobic because they all seem to believe that by stopping everything they do not like they somehow would not die.

Whites in this country have been systematically destroying people of colour since they realized they were the true minorities. Horne is just following his nature based on destructiveness and white supremacy. When you destroy a native language, you destroy the culture. When you destroy the culture, you eliminate the people.
Whites are not going to cease this behaviour til every brown person on planet earth is no longer in existence. Xenophobia is the foundation for Eugenics. All whites claim to be “colour-blind” yet they focus more on us and our existence than we do on ourselves.
When every person of colour wakes up and realizes that this is just apart of the annihilation process, we can crumble this system and everyone that partakes in it once and for all.
On a side note about the Tea Party:
This political party is not new. In fact, nothing whites do is “new.” It’s just the same recycled material with a new name and new face to cleverly disguise their agenda and confuse the masses. The Tea Party really is just The Schutzstaffel.

These racists infuriate me when they use Dr. King’s words to push their colorblind agenda. Someone’s race and ethnicity does tell you something about that person, and that is neither good, bad or indifferent. This Horne is a fascists, racist pig. May he soon be swept out of office and go down into the flames of hell where he belongs and take those tea bagging a-holes with him.

Being of jewish descent you’d think he would be more inclined for peolpe to promote their ethnicity.( Bearing in mind if the Germans had gotten their way he would’nt be around.)

Abagond,
You wrote, “He says that knowing a person’s race tells you nothing about that person, that people should judged only as individuals. He quotes Martin Luther King, Jr that people should:
That seems like that is the ONLY LINE that most white people remember from ALL of Dr. King’s speeches and writings COMBINED that they use for their own racist purposes or to excuse them. They don’t know or remember anything else that Dr. King said, wrote or did during his lifetime especially during the Civil Rights Movement. And they don’t have to if they want to push their white supremacist agenda.
In their minds they, the superior white race, are also ALWAYS the eternal victims of “reverse oppression” from nonwhites. If whites were so superior, why are they always the victim? And I know this guy is a closeted white supremacist. He doesn’t say so, but his proposals and policies show a different story.

@dave enamu:
Many people adopt destructive attitudes towards their own kin. Lazar Kaganovich, who was known as the Wolf of the Kremlin, was a jew and hailed from Ukraine, but that did not stop him murdering thousands upon thousands of both. Nikita Hrustshev was ukranian but gained Stalins acceptance by killing millions of his fellow people in 1920’s and 30’s.
Once this is done it is very easy to do what mr Horne here is doing. I bet he thinks that those jews who died during the holocaust are the ones to blame because they “did not do anything to save themselves”.

I get tired of whites appropriating Dr. King’s message as well. They conveniently ignore the rest of Dr. King’s work and speeches and the reason behind why he said what he did. It is very infuriating.
