SOPA and PIPA (2011) are two Internet anti-piracy bills before the U.S. Congress as of January 2012. They are mostly the same: PIPA is the Senate one, SOPA the House of Representatives one. They are a naked power grab by Hollywood to control the Internet.
They would allow Hollywood and people like Rupert Murdoch to do to the Internet in America pretty much what the Communist Party has done to it in China: decide what people inside the country can and cannot see. It allows them to block not just foreign websites but even American ones.
That might all sound more extreme than what you have been hearing, but bear with me.
First, these six companies produce 90% of what Americans read, watch and listen to as of 2011. The numbers are how much each makes in a year:
- Viacom; $14.9 billion
- CBS Corporation: $14.1 billion
- News Corp: $33.4 billion
- Time Warner: $26.9 billion
- GE: $150.2 billion
- Disney: $40.9 billion
Together they have spent millions to push SOPA and PIPA. And then put on this Clueless Act like they do not quite understand how the Internet works or what the bills that they pretty much wrote are asking for. Like they were born yesterday.
Some people buy into the Clueless Act and say stuff like SOPA and PIPA are badly written or so broad they are open to abuse. Like it was an accident they were written that way.
I have to assume that anyone who spends millions asking for something knows full well what they are asking for and wants it badly.
And therefore it must be a power grab.
Means, opportunity – and motive: these same companies are based on business models that no longer work in an Internet age. But rather than adjust to the Internet, they want the Internet to adjust to them.
The anti-piracy stuff in the bills is laughable. Therefore I have to assume it is window dressing for the broad powers that are given.
To wit:
To block a website from America all they have to do is get a judge to agree that it either has infringed copyrighted material or links to one that does!!!! That is like half the Internet. At least.
Even worse: the burden of proof is not on them but on the website owner. Guilty till proven innocent – by lawyers better than whatever a multibillion dollar company can afford.
Also bad: the government can shut down websites on their behalf. The copyright stuff could be used as an excuse for darker motives.
It would make websites like the Wikipedia, YouTube, Facebook and WordPress (this one!) unworkable because they are based on user-created content that is next to impossible to police.
Hollywood content would be king, not our content.
This is part of a long battle: if SOPA and PIPA are killed, the media companies will try again later with new bills with new names. And, as they have already shown, they will try to take just as much power as they can get away with.
PIPA is set for a Senate vote on January 24th 2012.

In Finland freedom of all kinds has been under attack for some 15 years now, including the Net. The attack began with the same reasoning here too, that the Net piracy must be stopped. Currently finnish net operators block the entry to the swedish Pirate Bay site. More are coming, I think.
New approach, more easily to sell for the public after the norwegian tragedy, is that the Net is full of hate sites and hate talk. Even the Green party, which grew out from a movement which used all kinds of illegal methods in its enviromental campaings, is pushing censorship under this banner. They want to stop the neo nazis, racists, hate mongers, all right, but the laws suggested are always formulated so that the authorities and officials are the ones who decide which sites, blogs etc, would be shut down. Handy, eh?
At the same time our police commander is all over the media telling how the national security is at risk because the funding of the whole police force has been cut. There are less and less police on the streets, true, and the security of the people is crumblin, true. But check this out: the police got 131 million euros from 2007 on wards, that is almost 37% MORE money than previously. They have gotten more money all the time but for some reason the cops on the streets are getting rare. What is going on?
Few days ago one of the biggest newspapers here revealed that the police is trying, very hush hush, to pass a new law which allows them to open a new registery. This one would be for those whom the police think are SUSPICIOUS. Really!! Nobody knows how, who or for what one ends in to this registery of suspects.
Few years ago the goverment (and the justice minister from the Green party) pushed trough a law that gave private companies and such a right to check e-mails of their workers, spy their mails etc. Why? Nobody knows but the saying was that this way the big business can stop industrial espionage. Yeah, right. Industrial spying is naturally done via e-mails openly, yeaaaah right. 😀
When we look at the almost similar going ons around the west, I wonder what we are seeing. Is this the invisible hand of the plutocracy at work? Are they preparing the way for it or really implementing it? Looks very SUSPICIOUS indeed.

So true. I knew they would come after the internet sooner or later and I was curious how they were going to do it without being seen to be curbing free speech and now we know how – by using Trojan horses like bills to obstensibly fight piracy. I’m actually surprised it took them so long.
Our rulers have been concerned about how social media was used in the Arab spring revolutions and other rebellions and are worried that the internet could one day be used to overthrow them. They had to come after the internet; it was a way people could find out what they didn’t want us to know. Being online has shown me the extent to which the mainstream media spins omits and lies. They want to control all the news and information we get and control and set the parameters of all our discussions.
“None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free” and the internet is a threat to that so it has to be neutralised and since democracy in the U.S. is a charade like the democracy here, they will get what they want.
With Obama signing the NDAA law that “grants the U.S. military the “legal” right to conduct secret kidnappings of U.S. citizens, followed by indefinite detention, interrogation, torture and even murder” it is clear that rulers of the United States want a police state.

To be perfectly honest, I want these bills to pass. I want this country to get so low down and dirty, even the most conservative of citizens feels a change is in order. An iconoclastic mindset is what the American people need. The militarization and arming of police forces with high tech weaponry and the latest surveillance technology is a very expensive expenditure.

What you’re seeing is the methodical implementation of the New World Order. You probably know that NWO was once thought to be a kooky theory rooted in the “tinfoil hat” crowd. Today the evidence supports that the world is becoming one big police state!

@matari: The idea of New World Order as it was presented back then was too raw and conspitorial for average joe to grasp. It sounded too paranoid. But it is for real. It is the plutocracy, the rule of money. Big business wants to run the world and it does do everything in its power to do so.
During 2008 financial crisis some e-mails were leaked out in which a big investment bank (Meryl Lynch if I remember correctly) lamented for its biggest customers that unfortunately there was still a deomcary but in the next 10-15 years they could see the world, west particulary, turning into a plutocrary after which it will be a paradise for big companies.
All ready back in 1980’s one american Nobelist (of physics, cant remember the guys name) said in discussion of the dangers of the future that it is the supersized organisations. Others were talking about enviroment etc. but this guy held firm: according to him the big business would become bigger than any government, the security apparatuses would out grow the governments etc. And this is presicely what is going on today.
How many security organisations there are in USA today? Does anybody even know?
There is Interpol and somekind of pan-european police in making at least and others we do not even know. Mobile phones are easiest way to track and follow people, listen in on them etc. A. Hitler and J. Stalin could only dream of such abilities.
When Bush government gave the authorities freedom to spy on people because of threat of terrorism, everybody believed they would targeting Al Qaida etc. Instead, for every single possible terrorist been watched by the authorities, they were following thousands of US citizens who had no connection with Middle East, terrorism etc. Nobody knows how many and where and when.
This is really scary.

What you are saying is the constant torrent of micro aggressions that Black people have to endure which accumulate over a lifetime and mentally and spiritually wear them down are unimportant because you consider the feelings and mental wellbeing of Black people to be “small stuff” and unimportant, which is a common mentality among your people, and is cause of the micro aggressions.
You are saying that Black people discussing and analyzing the micro aggressions that they have to endure divides us and you are wrong. It is White people who consider the micro aggressions to be no big deal and keep perpetrating them that divide us, not the Black people who discuss and analyze how they are slighted daily and object to it.
We can focus our attention on the major aggressions and the micro aggressions too, doing one doesn’t mean we can’t do the other too – we can walk and chew gum at the same time, but racist White people would prefer Black people to suffer in silence.
By trying to minimize the suffering of Black people and advocating sweeping it under the carpet, it is you dave who are the one doing what the powers that be want; you are doing exactly what they’ve trained you to do all your life.

It’s fascinating to me that these bills get so much passionate opposition while people were asleep at the wheel over NDAA or other codifications of civil liberties violations. Although there are some free speech concerns some of the concern seems to be driven by people who seek to continue to be able to use copyrighted material without paying for it. The government claims the right to kill an American citizen without arrest or trial-crickets. The government seeks to go after violations of copyright, oh the horror. It shows what our priorities are.

It is pretty concerning that the militarization is happening in different countries at the same time. There is a theory that the financial crisis was caused deliberately by our rulers because we have reached the end of economic growth due to having reached the earths limits, so our rulers wont have enough wealth to bribe us with and maintain their standard of living anymore, so they have decided to use the shock doctrine and crash the world economy so that we get so desperate due to the chaos, cannibalism, rape, murder, filth, disease, random violence, predation and lack of food that would ensue, that we gratefully accept their New World Order and that the militarization of the police force is to prepare for possible unrest while they implement their plan.
“Today Americans would be outraged if UN troops entered Los Angeles to restore order; tomorrow they will be grateful. This is especially true if they were told there was an outside threat from beyond, whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all peoples of the world will plead with world leaders to deliver them from this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well being granted to them by their world government.” – Henry Kissinger speaking at Evian, France, May 21, 1992 Bilderbergers meeting
“Our current masters, the elite bankers, have clearly signaled their intention to bring the current social system into complete collapse, just like the Twin Towers. They’ve talked about their New World Order, we’ve examined what they mean by that in a bit of detail, and their strategy is understandable. The changes they want are so abhorrent, that they need to reduce us to starving rabble, more or less, so that any recovery program will be welcomed with open arms.”

Black people deal with more and worse race based dehumanizing, humiliating micro aggressions than White people do and it happens far more often to us. The micro aggressions we have constantly endure has an accumulative effect that takes its toll on us mentally, physically and spiritually. It is like Chinese water torture; the water drops that drip on the victims head are “small stuff” but after a period of prolonged and incessant dripping it drives the victim crazy.
Again you’re trying to equate the Black experience of living in a hostile anti-Black White supremacist society with the more privileged experience of being a White person in a White supremacist society when the experience is different and much worse for Black people, but it seems you don’t want to accept that fact. We can never come together until White people accept reality and stop their anti-Black racism and the Black man gets equal rights, justice and fair treatment.

Yeah. It’s a dangerous time, because there are dwindling resources and a 7 billion world population so of course what resources are left will last longer if there’s less of us, and less of us means we’ll be easier to control, plus technology has meant more automation so they don’t need so many of us to do their jobs, so many of us are redundant to them – useless eaters. I’m beginning to think there might be some truth in the theory that Reverend Wright discussed: that H.I.V was a bio weapon that they unleashed to depopulate Africa and other places. White people have a long depraved history of using biological warfare and experimenting on Black people.

There ain’t a nickel’s worth of difference between the the two major political parties.
As far as I’m concerned they are ALL a bunch of thieving crooks who would sell their souls to the highest bidder (or lobbyist). Cynthia McKinney, for instance, was an honest congressperson – an extraordinarily RARE entity – who took Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld to task on some shady dealings regarding contractors and the Iraq war. When the “good ol’ boy political apparatus moved against her, Mckinney’s career in Congress was done in a flash, sending a clear message to anyone who had similar thoughts re uncovering corruption. You either play ball with the big boys, or you get played OUT. That’s how the game works.
If “voting” could truly change the way things get done (and for whom they get done) in America, the controllers would find a way to render voting illegal. Not that they have to as they have 10,000 methods of nullifying/disqualifying/altering the people’s votes/choices, especially with the new computerized voting machines that have no reliable paper trail, and dubious handlers.
Americans have been HOODWINKED. We all watched Bush (shrub) steal not one but two elections.. with compelling evidence that votes were purposely lost, disqualified, not counted and so on. Party hacks and operatives were going out on election night and mis-directing voters to the wrong precincts or telling people that they weren’t registered to vote, when in fact they were. Overseas military personnel votes were held up and not counted.
Shrub and his cronies got away with it, the same way they got away with causing the deaths of hundreds of thousands in an illegal and dishonest Iraqi war. Things get covered up, investigations get compromised, chairmen, investigators and special prosecutors look the other way – because THE FIX IS IN.
The election process in America has been rigged – against THE PEOPLE – for a very long time! There’s NO WAY that these so-called representatives that sit in the House and the Senate don’t know this – even if a lot of Americans don’t. The super rich run this country – not the common people and certainly not the “politicians” regardless of their party affiliation.
“Hope & Change…Yeah Right!!!”
I agree with you on that .. lol
But not much else.
It wouldn’t matter who’s in the White House, or if the other party was in power because the big boys, and that tiny country in the Middle East, are the ones who’s really pulling the strings.

I agree with most of what was said, but not all of it. For the record black people, I was not a fan of GW Bush. He was not a true conservative in the classical sense, he was a moderate like his father George HW Bush. Never lump conservatives in with moderates, not the same thing. GW had a lot of liberal tendencies that came back to bite him in the behind, the Iraq War comes to mind. We didn’t fight to win, instead, we wanted to fight a clean war…no collateral damage. Bush’s wishy-washy diplomacy extended the war longer than it should have been. Bush was a weak president with respect to domestic policy and international policy, I admit that with no problem. I love Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Mark Levin. They’re real conservatives, they weren’t fans of W either in case you didn’t know. As it relates to Obama, he should have never been elected in the first place. He had no experience, no backbone, no logical platform, radical ties with leftists and islamists here in the states and abroad. If most black people knew the real Barack, they would not have voted for him, that’s how i see it. Matari, both parties are imperfect as it relates to black folk. The GOP is the lesser evil in my opinion. Most blackmen that are jacked-up on this planet lean toward the left…socialism, communism, marxism, fascism, etc. I get along with liberals fine, I disagree with their political beliefs. All black people don’t have to be liberal and all of us don’t have to be conservative. Black folk who are more on my side gotta speak up for themselves…Bottomline!!!

That is quite simply not true it was not a clean war. Bush’s war which he sold to the American people based on a pack of lies killed many innocent Iraqi Civilians.
Fallujah, Iraq – “While the US military has formally withdrawn from Iraq, doctors and residents of Fallujah are blaming weapons like depleted uranium and white phosphorous used during two devastating US attacks on Fallujah in 2004 for what are being described as “catastrophic” levels of birth defects and abnormalities.
Dr Samira Alani, a paediatric specialist at Fallujah General Hospital, has taken a personal interest in investigating an explosion of congenital abnormalities that have mushroomed in the wake of the US sieges since 2005.
“We have all kinds of defects now, ranging from congenital heart disease to severe physical abnormalities, both in numbers you cannot imagine”
http://www.countercurrents.org/jamail060112.htm
“The frustration that resulted from our inability to get back at those who were attacking us led to tactics that seemed designed simply to punish the local population…”
Sergeant Camilo Mejía, 31, from Miami, National Guardsman, 1-124 Infantry Battalion, 53rd Infantry Brigade. Six-month tour beginning April 2003
“I just remember thinking, ‘I just brought terror to someone under the American flag’.”
Sergeant Timothy John Westphal, 31, of Denver, 18th Infantry Brigade, 1st Infantry Division. In Tikrit on year-long tour beginning February 2004
In Iraq, Specialist Middleton said, “a lot of guys really supported that whole concept that, you know, if they don’t speak English and they have darker skin, they’re not as human as us, so we can do what we want.”
According to Sergeant Millard and several others interviewed, “It becomes this racialized hatred towards Iraqis.” And this racist language, as Specialist Harmon pointed out, likely played a role in the level of violence directed at Iraqi civilians. “By calling them names,” he said, “they’re not people anymore. They’re just objects.”
According to descriptions culled from interviews with thirty-eight veterans who rode in convoys–guarding such runs as Kuwait to Nasiriya, Nasiriya to Baghdad and Balad to Kirkuk–when these columns of vehicles left their heavily fortified compounds they usually roared down the main supply routes, which often cut through densely populated areas, reaching speeds over sixty miles an hour.
Governed by the rule that stagnation increases the likelihood of attack, convoys leapt meridians in traffic jams, ignored traffic signals, swerved without warning onto sidewalks, scattering pedestrians, and slammed into civilian vehicles, shoving them off the road. Iraqi civilians, including children, were frequently run over and killed. Veterans said they sometimes shot drivers of civilian cars that moved into convoy formations or attempted to pass convoys as a warning to other drivers to get out of the way.
One example I can give you, you know, we’d be cruising down the road in a convoy and all of the sudden, an IED blows up,” said Spc. Ben Schrader, 27, of Grand Junction, Colorado. He served in Baquba with the 263rd Armor Battalion, First Infantry Division, from February 2004 to February 2005. “And, you know, you’ve got these scared kids on these guns, and they just start opening fire. And there could be innocent people everywhere. And I’ve seen this, I mean, on numerous occasions where innocent people died because we’re cruising down and a bomb goes off.”
Sergeant Flatt was among twenty-four veterans who said they had witnessed or heard stories from those in their unit of unarmed civilians being shot or run over by convoys. These incidents, they said, were so numerous that many were never reported.
The killing of unarmed Iraqis was so common many of the troops said it became an accepted part of the daily landscape. “The ground forces were put in that position,” said First Lieut. Wade Zirkle of Shenandoah County, Virginia, who fought in Nasiriya and Falluja with the Second Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion from March to May 2003. “You got a guy trying to kill me but he’s firing from houses…with civilians around him, women and children. You know, what do you do? You don’t want to risk shooting at him and shooting children at the same time. But at the same time, you don’t want to die either.”
Sergeant Dougherty recounted an incident north of Nasiriya in December 2003, when her squad leader shot an Iraqi civilian in the back. The shooting was described to her by a woman in her unit who treated the injury. “It was just, like, the mentality of my squad leader was like, Oh, we have to kill them over here so I don’t have to kill them back in Colorado,” she said. “He just, like, seemed to view every Iraqi as like a potential terrorist.”
Several interviewees said that, on occasion, these killings were justified by framing innocents as terrorists, typically following incidents when American troops fired on crowds of unarmed Iraqis. The troops would detain those who survived, accusing them of being insurgents, and plant AK-47s next to the bodies of those they had killed to make it seem as if the civilian dead were combatants.
“It would always be an AK because they have so many of these weapons lying around,” said Specialist Aoun. Cavalry scout Joe Hatcher, 26, of San Diego, said 9-millimeter handguns and even shovels–to make it look like the noncombatant was digging a hole to plant an IED–were used as well.
“Every good cop carries a throwaway,” said Hatcher, who served with the Fourth Cavalry Regiment, First Squadron, in Ad Dawar, halfway between Tikrit and Samarra, from February 2004 to March 2005. “If you kill someone and they’re unarmed, you just drop one on ’em.” Those who survived such shootings then found themselves imprisoned as accused insurgents.

Jesse Lee Peterson, a regular guest on the Sean Hannity show who Hannity’s website describes as “the most courageous, outspoken critic of the liberal left and the so-called “black leadership” in America today” declaring what a excellent thing the Transatlantic Slave trade was and how good it was for Black people and how grateful he is to the White man for enslaving his ancestors and bringing them to the United States of America as it means it allowed him to escape the horror of being an African:
Some recent Republican racism: Tenn. Tea Party Demands Slavery Removed From Textbooks
The Tea Party of Tennessee wants to remove from history textbooks any incidents of slavery and genocide linked to the founders of the U.S. for fear those references would tarnish the image of the Founding Fathers.

“I don’t want to make black people’s lives better by giving them somebody else’s money. I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn the money and provide for themselves and their families.” – Rick Santorum
“If the NAACP invites me, I’ll go to their convention and talk about why the African-American community should demand paychecks and not be satisfied with food stamps.” – Newt Gingrich
“A conservative black preacher has backed Newt Gringrich after the Republican presidential candidate came under fire for saying poor black children should work as janitors.
Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, who founded a Tea Party organization in South Central L.A, says that Gingrich was 100 per cent correct that blacks lack work ethic and that his own solution was to ‘send them back to the plantation’.
‘One of the things that I would do is take all black people back to the South and put them on the plantation so they would understand the ethic of working,’

Here three Conservative luminaries pander to the racist stereotype of Black people being lazy leeches on society and paint food stamps as a “Black programme”.
Liberals operate a patronising paternalistic softer kind of racism against Black people; they are wolves in sheep’s clothing, but the very worst vitriolic racism against Black people comes from the right-wing. They are the open enemy of the Black race with an intense burning loathing of Black people and a strong desire to make their lives as miserable as possible.
Why would any Black man want to ally himself with people who appeal to their supporters by making racist comments against Black people?
