Remarks:
This used to be just a plain old song on the radio. It came out in 1975 and went to #1 on the US R&B chart in 1976. They were playing the classics and no one told me. In 2008 I said that Mary J. Blige’s 1993 remake was better. Not sure what drugs I was on then: that version is not even close to this.

Lyrics:
I will love you anyway
Even if you cannot stay
I think you are the one for me
Here is where you ought to be
I just want to satisfy you
You’re not mine and I can’t deny it
Don’t you hear me talking, baby
Love me now or I’ll go crazy
Whoa, oh, sweet thing
Boy you know you’re my everything
Whoa oh, sweet thing
Boy you know you’re my everything
Yes you are
Yeah you are
Ohhh…
You are my heat, you are my fire
You make me weak with strong desire
Love you child my whole life long
Be right or be wrong
I just want to satisfy you
‘Cause you’re not mine, I can’t deny it
Don’t you hear me talking, baby
Love me now or I’ll go crazy
You’re my heat, you are my fire
You’re not mine, I can’t deny it
Don’t you hear me talking, baby
Love me now or I’ll go crazy
You’re my heat, you are my fire
You’re not mine, I can’t deny it
Don’t you hear me talking, baby
Love me now or I’ll go crazy
You’re my heat, you are my fire
You’re not mine, I can’t deny it
Don’t you hear me talking, baby
Love me now or I’ll go crazy
You’re my heat ….
No one can match Chaka in terms of whatever songs she originated! Superb voice!

I never liked the Mary J. Blige version. The original by Rufus ft. Chaka Khan is the best.

I’m rather partial to this version, Chaka and Prince live:

@Abagond
It was and is truly a cinematic song used or sampled iconically in that way.
