Remarks:
This song is every bit as amazing as the day I first heard it. Unlike with Robin Thicke, my memory was unable to improve on the guitar one bit. The song came out in 1970 but is timeless. I have been told Jimi Hendrix is of the devil. Now I see what they mean.

Lyrics:
Well, I stand up next to a mountain
And I chop it down with the edge of my hand
Well, I stand up next to a mountain
Chop it down with the edge of my hand
Well, I pick up all the pieces and make an island
Might even raise just a little sand
‘Cause I’m a voodoo child
Lord knows I’m a voodoo child
I didn’t mean to take you up all your sweet time
I’ll give it right back to you one of these days
I said, I didn’t mean to take you up all your sweet time
I’ll give it right back to you one of these days
And if I don’t meet you no more in this world
Then I’ll, I’ll meet you in the next one
And don’t be late, don’t be late
‘Cause I’m a voodoo child
Lord knows I’m a voodoo child
I’m a voodoo child

Oh man, Hendrix was such a genius and this tune is one of my all time favorites. Blows me away every time I hear it.

I read that he may have been murdered but the British cops didn’t care so they failed to properly investigate. Any truth to that claim, in your opinion?

Jimi used various drugs and alcohol to excess, which was typical for rock musicians of his day. The official version of his death was that he asphyxiated on his own vomit while asleep. Again, a somewhat common death for rock musicians of that day. Autopsy and girlfriend with him at the time of death both confirmed that he took a giant dose of a barbiturate, washed down with booze, went into a deep drugged sleep, puked in his sleep while on his back, and choked on the puke. Occam’s Razor suggests that the simplest explanation is usually the correct one.
That said, the music bizz is extremely competitive, sometimes violently so, and there are ruthless people in it. Jimi was not only successful but also popular and very sexually active. It is possible that he pissed off the wrong person, who killed him, but that would be sheer speculation. Tons of books and research about him yet nobody to my knowledge has suggested a realistic murder hypothesis.
Similar discussion with Prince, by the way, except his addiction was private and secret and for that reason probably worse.

I’ve never heard about or read anything about that, interesting. I wouldn’t be surprised!

I still get chills through the course of that song. The way the guitar flares up and down, the effortless switches between rhythm and lead, and just the sheer balls out intensity.

Ha, my mom who is a flower child from the sixties, says Jimi was constantly high – she used to hang out at his studio, Electric Lady land in the early seventies. Don’t think she ever met the legend though she did meet the Santana Brothers.
