Tim Kaine (1958- ), a Democratic senator of Virginia, is Hillary Clinton’s choice for vice president in the 2016 election for US president.
Timeline:
- 1983: law degree from Harvard
- 1984: moves to Richmond, Virginia, fights for fair housing in court, later winning one of the biggest redlining cases ever, against Nationwide Insurance.
- 1995-1998: on the city council
- 1998-2002: mayor, fights for gun control
- 2002-2006: lieutenant governor of Virginia
- 2006-2010: governor of Virginia
- 2009-2011: chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC)
- 2013– : senator of Virginia
In the Senate he serves on the Armed Services and the Foreign Relations Committees, which gives him some foreign policy experience.
Kaine is married to a daughter of one of his heroes, A. Linwood Holton, Jr, who was the Republican governor of Virginia from 1970 to 1974. Holton pushed through the state’s first fair housing law.
Kaine has two sons and a daughter. He was born in Minnesota, but grew up in suburban Kansas City, Missouri.
He has been something of a non-entity on the national stage: Until last week all I knew about him is that he was governor of Virginia during the VA Tech shooting. And I might not have even remembered that if his name did not sound like that of Tom Kean, who was governor of New Jersey from 1982 to 1990. (Trump has already mixed up the two. Their names both sound like “Cane”.)
Language: In addtion to English, he speaks Spanish: during his studies, he spent a year in Honduras teaching carpentry and welding at a Jesuit mission. He is the first senator to ever give a speech in Spanish on the Senate floor.
Religion: Kaine, an Irish American Catholic, went to a Jesuit high school. Like Pope Francis, his view of Christianity comes with a Jesuit cast, being strong on social justice. He says his faith comes first. As governor he tried to limit abortions, but as senator Planned Parenthood has given him perfect marks! He says he opposes capital punishment, yet as governor oversaw 11 executions!
Positions:
- For: abortion (since 2013), capital punishment, same-sex marriage, gun control, banning smoking, looser rules on banks, free trade, early education, fair housing, no-fly zone in Syria.
- Against: TPP trade deal (since 2016), the religious right, tax cuts for the rich, umlimited war against ISIS.
He was an early Obama supporter (February 2007) and, in this election cycle, an even earlier Hillary Clinton supporter (May 2014). In 2008 he was on Obama’s short list of possible vice presidents. Joe Biden, another Irish American Catholic who votes in favour of abortion, beat him out: Biden had more foreign policy experience. Obama made Kaine head of the DNC instead.
When Kaine ran for Senate in 2012, more Virginians voted for him than for Obama.
Virginia is a swing state, but it is no where nearly as important as, say, Ohio or Florida. In Kaine’s favour: he is not up for re-election this year. Democrats need every seat in the Senate they can get.
Some say the election will be won or lost on the Angry White Man vote. He is two of those.

@”1983: law degree from Harvard”
Big surprise. It’s either Harvard or Yale.
Kaine – Harvard Law
Hillary Clinton – Yale Law
Obama – Harvard Law
W Bush – Yale Law
Willie Clinton – Yale Law
H W Bush – Yale
(Mitt Romeny, Harvard Law, John Kerry, Yale etc.)
It’s a club, and you’re not invited unless you attended to those schools and joined the secret societies. That’s why outsiders (Sanders, Trump, etc.) are always treated unfairly by the political elites and the media.

“Big surprise. It’s either Harvard or Yale.”
Another poster brought up this sort of university connection. If presidents and the politicale elite came from different schools i doubt thinhs would be mjch different.
Im also skepticale that sexret societies run things.
