Remarks:
The late Andy Palacio of Belize is the best known Garifuna singer. He knew he had to sing in Garifuna to help save the language the day he saw an old Garifuna man in Nicaragua cry. The old man cried because Palacio had spoken to him in Garifuna instead of Spanish or English.
Lyrics:
In Garifuna:
Wбtina
Sнtina
Dimuretina tuma
Lugunena mua
Mбhati ayudante
Lanьgьnina
Arihabei lбsьgьrьn amuleсei
Le ya lйmeri wageira
Sьgьrьgь sьgьrьgь ugunei
Bungiu Baba, sбnsibei me
Ei niwiwan nu aь lidan irumu le
Mama luйigien narнengu bun
Aь luni basansiruni niwiwan
Luni bбfarunina
Нgiraraь yebe bana
Ya lun ьgьriu me
Dagagьdaraь yebe bana
Ya lun ьgьriu me
Gбlati nubusedun
Gebegiti nupasei ei
Menege hamutina gaseinsutian
beautiful….I love punta & paranda.
They just tie together everything that bonds all us Caribbean people in the “collective”
you hear everything in the Garifuna’s styles…
RIP to Paul Nabor and Andy Palacio
Aurelio Martinez (Honduran) is now holding down the fort.
(ps–this is the moment I miss BR– we would be arguing about whether or not Punta is considered “booty shake” music due to culture vultures in reggaeton)

This is such a pretty, simple song-“The old man cried because Palacio had spoken to him in Garifuna instead of Spanish or English”, what a lovely sentiment/motivation for writing and singing in his native language!

Does anybody have a translation of any of his music?
I have been listening to him for years, but have no idea what he is saying.
Exceptionally beautiful.
