I love the songs listed here but, my absolute favourite is probably McArthur Park. It evokes so many memories for me from that time, starting school etc.
Also amongst my favourites:-
And this one…
I couldnt believe she was doing a song with Musical Youth who I was in to at the time.
What an absolute legend this woman was – long may her music live and her memory too…

I was never into disco but I remember when her music was played in discos over here, at high school parties etc. Some of them are part of the sound track of my youth. A big loss for all of us and what a fine lady and exceptional talent. Real loss.

Donna is beautiful…I relate to disco, actualy, the basic fundimentals of the groove came from the “Philly Sound” of Gamble and Huff. I remember monster Count Basie bass player, Cleavland Eaton, who was the bass player for Ramsey Lewis, along with Maruice White on drums ( Earth Wind and Fire ) , hired me for a couple of gigs back in 1974, hipping me to this groove of four on the floor.
So I played the groove a lot and dug it more than a lot other pop beats you might have to play to make a living. They had some monster disco cuts made by the killer New York studio cats , when they were doing it live in the studio ( or at least the rhtym section)
And Dona was one of the first to come out with disco style. She especialy kind of did the Euro disco thing , Diana Ross had her If There’s a Cure after that.
Disco has serious roots in black American dance culture , that goes before Soul Train ( Don Cornelius did say that , and, there is a docu out called “Black Dance in America” that shows how early that disco beat was on Soul Train , and its evolution)
RIP Donna Summer

I was shocked to learn that she was ill. She kept that a very tight secret. I grew up on her and I just thought that she was everything..even tried to emulate her..lol. I liked MacArthur Park, Love, State of Independence , Bad Girls, Love is in control, “Heaven Knows”and in her latter years “She Works Hard For The Money.
Donna’s death is still surprising and sad. My thoughts and prayers goes out to her family.
