Remarks:
This song went to #4 on the American R&B charts in 1986. It went to #3 on the pop charts. One of those songs that rang in my head back then.
Lyrics:
How did you know ’cause I never told
You found out,
Ive got a crush on you
No more charades,
My hearts been displayed,
You found out,
Ive got a crush on you
You must have heard it
From my best friend
Shes always talkin when she should be listenin
Cant keep a secret
To save her life
But still I trusted her with all I felt inside
I never knew, a rumor could spread so fast
(cause now the) Word is out!
All over town
That Im longing for you
Chorus
How did you know If i never told
You found out I’ve got a crush on you
No more charades,
My hearts been displayed
You found out I’ve got a crush on you
Maybe I was the one who left the trace
Was there a message written on my face
One little emotion so easily read
That you would know my love before a word was said…
Was it my eyes that let you know you had control
Because the way you move
It was so self-assured
You knew I would surrender!
Chorus
0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o- – – – –
Chorus till fade
😀 sorry, but if the seventies were funny, the 80’s were ridicilous. I can’t take this seriously.

OMG! I loved THE JETS! The lead singer, Elizabeth Wolfgramm, always sang beautifully. Though the members of The Jets were of Tongan and Fijian origin, they looked a bit Filipino and I was so happy to see people who looked sort of like me. 🙂 Man, this takes me back. Loved this song! 😀

Crush on You is cute but my all-time favorite song from the Jets is Over Him. In that song the lead singer has such a lovely lilt to her singing voice. I also thought it was funny when the guys in the group would sing, “You got me over him” in the background….

Over Him? Don’t you mean You Got It All? It’s a great song, I agree. I have so many favorites from The Jets. The best song, imho, is Make It Real. 😀

Yes, Leigh, that must be it. I remember it playing on the radio, but never actually owned the recording. I don’t know where I got the title “Over Him” from….

The jam back in the day! And I make certain to keep my Jets compilation CD within eyesight. The Jets used to remind me of the Sylvers, just Tonga-style.

@BleuParfum & Leigh204; Now, if we’re gonna list, I’ve got to add to those gems you both mentioned the following: “Cross My Broken Heart.” It has an aggressive beat, sorta like the “Hawaii Five-O” theme (which I love!) set to ’80s electronica.
The brothas & sistas Wolfgramm break it down and mellow it out in the bridge, and then one of the ladies sings in ecstasy: “YOU’RE my DES-ti-nyyyyyy!!!” I used to lose my mind on the dance floor after that rhythmic buildup, melodic tease and lung-busting release. I need a towel just thinking about it.

@BleuParfum: You’re remembering part of the lyrics correctly. As Leigh204 wrote, the song from which the “over him” lyric derives is “You Got It All.” The song is about a lover massaging her new boyfriend’s ego because he thinks she still loves her previous boyfriend — or loves him more. So now she must prove that he is the best of all! (By the way, the melody to that song is similar to “Make It Real” but has a midtempo rhythm.)
Pretend you’re hearing the music from “You Got It All,” and then read these lyrics (with the chorus parts in parenths):
(You got me over him / You got it all over him)
Honey, it’s true
There’s just you
(You must’ve been heaven-sent)
Hearing me call you when
Out on a limb
Cuz you’re all that I’m not (all that I’m not)
Just look what I got (look what I got)
Cuz you got it all (you got it all)
All over HI-I-I-I-IM
(You got me over him / You got it all over him)
HONEY, it’s true
There’s ju-UST YOU-U-U-U-U!!!
For what it’s worth, my fave Jets ballad is definitely “You Got It All,” for the way the female co-lead (don’t know which Wolfgramm sister it is) sings in a melody that uncannily reminds me of the structure of the chorus in the Stylistics ballad “You Make Me Feel Brand-New.” If The Jets had tossed in a sitar, the inadvertent (I think) homage would’ve been unmistakable. The female lead sings with the melodic sensibility of Rita Coolidge in the Boz Scaggs song “We’re All Alone” and the gracefulness of a traditional Japanese singer:
“No-o-o-o-o
Don’t let it wo-o-rry you so-o-o-o
Before I met you-u, I let go-o-o-o
Sure you can plainly see
Your soul meant more to me-e-e-e-e
Just … one … look … and … I kne-e-e-ew
You would make EV-erything cle-e-e-ear
Make all the CLOUDS disappe-e-e-ear
You’re better than all the rest
Who[m] do I love the be-e-e-est?
Don’t you know?
Don’t you KNO-O-O-OW?”
(The the chorus chimes in: “You got over him / You got it all over him …”)
Lastly (from me, anyway): Don’t be surprised to learn that the songwriter of “You Got It All” is the same man that wrote another sweet song from a different era: Rupert Holmes. And the song was? “Escape (The Pina Colada Song).” To those of you younger than 30 currently, that may sound like a lame title, but in the late ’70s, things were still so groovy that it was the perfect harmless, sweet tune. And maybe I’m just a corny person sometimes, but rather like Rupert Holmes’ contributions to the soundtrack of the 1984 film No Small Affair (Demi Moore and Jon Cryer).

@leigh204: Thanks, though I mucked up the lyrics here and there. I hope all is forgiven.
Abagond’s post had me listening to that entire Jets compilation CD last night. Def a good thing. The above lyrics (most of them are correct) are all from memory.
Merry Christmas, Abagond, leigh204 and to all of you reading this!

😀 The minute I saw this I thought of “Everybody Hates Chris”. Coincidentally, Tanya (Tonya?) was obsessed with this song in the New Year’s episode.
