Remarks:
I first saw this in 2006 on the Internet somewhere – not YouTube or iTunes. When “Paper Planes” came out two years later it took a while to sink in it was the same singer.
Lyrics:
london calling
speak the slang now
boys say wha
come on girls say what, say wha
london calling
speak the slang now
boys say wha
come on girls say what, say wha
slam, galang galang galang…

get down, get down, get down

You didn’t know that “Galang” and “Paper Planes” were recorded by the same individual? Really? How come?

It seemed like the same person, of course, but I just did not expect that someone I saw on the Internet by accident become famous two years later. I should have known better, though: I remember seeing Garcelle Beauvais in catalogues before she became famous.

I’d heard of MIA before her “Paper Planes” fame. Though it and “Bird Flu” are on the same album, I heard the latter a couple years back and really enjoyed her unique sound. Glad she’s getting the attention she deserves now. 🙂

Actually, M.I.A. was famous before 2006 but “Paper Planes” was the key to mainstream visibility due to its use in the film “Pineapple Express” and on Jay-Z, T.I., Kanye West and Lil’ Wayne’s “Swagga Like Us”.
