Lyrics:
I waited ’til I saw the sun
I don’t know why I didn’t come
I left you by the house of fun
I don’t know why I didn’t come
I don’t know why I didn’t come
When I saw the break of day
I wished that I could fly away
Instead of kneeling in the sand
Catching teardrops in my hand
My heart is drenched in wine
But you’ll be on my mind
Forever
Out across the endless sea
I would die in ecstasy
But I’ll be a bag of bones
Driving down the road alone
My heart is drenched in wine
But you’ll be on my mind
Forever
Something has to make you run
I don’t know why I didn’t come
I feel as empty as a drum
I don’t know why I didn’t come
I don’t know why I didn’t come
I don’t know why I didn’t come

This song had to grow on me when it first came out. I’m so happy I’ve grown to appreciate it.

I loved this song when it first came out— also have the CD. It’s both beautiful and sad-sounding,with an old-school jazz sound/feel to it, which is why it sticks with you. I remember Jones saying a while after it came out that no one, including her, expected her debut to be so popular, because it was just a little release put out on a not-so-big label at the time. I actually just assumed that she was black when I first saw her one of her videos—it was interesting to find out that she comes from a musical family.
