Sarah Furay (c. 1996- ) is an American drug dealer from College Station, Texas. On November 9th 2015, the police searched her home and found:
- 31.5 grams of packaged cocaine,
- 126 grams of high-grade marijuana,
- 29 tablets of Ecstasy,
- 60 doses of 25c NBOME (a drug like LSD),
- an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine,
- two digital scales,
- packaging materials,
- a handwritten list of drug prices,
- text messages on her phone about drug deals.
She could face up to 215 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.
Despita all that, she was smiling in her mugshot (pictured above).
Despite all that, she easily made bail and got out of jail.
Despite all that, the press said she had:
- a “photogenic smile”,
- “the happiest mugshot in America”,
- the “jolliest in recent history”, and
- “an entrepreneurial approach to avoiding student loan debt.”
Even though she is 19, neither the Daily Beast nor Raw Story called her a “woman”. Instead she was a “girl”, a “teen” and a “teenage daughter”.
Death and Taxes called her “an adorable drug kingpin”.
Deray McKesson:
“Watch whiteness work.”
After being widely condemned on Twitter, Death and Taxes admitted that calling her “adorable” was, in effect, racist (would they ever say that of a Black drug kingpin?) and gave what seemed to be a sincere apology.
Her mother is the head of the Coulson Tough Elementary School in Woodlands, Texas.
Her father is a no-nonsense DEA agent, who has put many a drug dealer behind bars, 60 of them from the Sinaloa Mexican drug cartel. He is currently in Panama working with the US ambassador.
Despite his daughter’s drug dealing, none of the reporting I read asked if he was dirty. Instead they assumed he was a clueless parent.
Whites and Blacks in the US use and sell drugs at about the same rate, yet at each step of the criminal “justice” system, Whites are favoured: Blacks are much more likely to be arrested, to be given a higher bail, to be found guilty, and to be given a longer sentence in prison – for the same crime.
All of that is part of why only 23% of those in federal prison are White – even though Whites make up 64% of the US.
And that 215-year prison sentence she could face – for what is a non-violent crime, remember – is part of why the US has so many people in prison.
Art Way, a senior drug policy manager at The Drug Policy Alliance, said:
“Furay has posted bond that was likely smaller than what most people of color her age would have received, and I’m sure she has private counsel. As a result, she escapes pretrial detention and possibly prison through early plea bargaining.”
He was surprised she was arrested in the first place:
“It is more difficult for the tentacles of the system to reach those like Furay. I’m surprised they were actually looking for her instead of her falling in their lap on accident. The truth is probably more akin to the latter.”
– Abagond, 2015.

The treatment of this little Becky caught up knee deep in the dope game is just the tip of the iceberg. Now that the vast majority of heroin addicts are middle class white people from the suburbs and rural areas, there has been a huge legislative push for treatment over incarceration for white addicts.
The war on drugs was never meant to negatively effect white people, period. The war on drugs was really a war on poor mostly black people trapped in the ghetto. Even though heroin is much dangerous, harmful, addictive and lethal than, say, marijuana, white families are fighting so that sentencing for white heroin addicts is as soft as possible because white heroin addicts come from “good families” and “good communities”. This is because blacks are statistically much more likely to be busted for weed than whites. The sins of the father have come back to haunt the children in this case. When heroin addiction was a primarily black problem in the ghetto, heroin addiction was looked as a crime and ultimately a moral failing attributed to race and culture. But now that it’s mostly white kids shooting and snorting dope, cops are carrying around Narcan and the privileged melanin-deficient dopefiends are being sentenced to rehab (which rarely works in treating addiction) instead of prison. But I bet that the black guys selling dope in the hood will continue to be killed or go to prison while their white suburban clientele gets shipped off to rehab only to relapse again weeks, months and years later. Nevermind the fact that none of the heroin in America is grown here locally and that the narcotics have been purposely placed in the ghetto for decades as a form of federally-funded population control to keep blacks from violently banning together to dismantle the white supremacist power structure like it was threatened to do so back in the riots of the 60’s.

I’n NOT surprised at all. Whites are the number one drug-dealers.
Who brought in the first loads of heroin and cocaine to the marginalized Black neighborhoods in major cities like New York, Chicago, and Detroit? You guessed it, Lucky Luciano and his fellow-Italian drug lords.
Who brought in the first loads of cocaine to the marginalized Black neighborhoods in California? You guessed it, the CIA and their Contra-guerrilla, drug lord informants.

Too often in any discourse about discrimination the focus is on black men and white women, with no mention of black women (much less other people of color).
It’s telling that even the criticism about the media’s handling of Sarah Furay contrasts her only with black men, not with black women.

Her father being a DEA agent will give her special clout when it comes to sentencing. Their will be some behind the scene conversations that we will never hear about. Texas incarcerates more people then any other state in the union. I think she will be going to prison but not for no 215 years. That’s a ridiculous sentence all in itself for a non violent crime to give to anybody. One thing for sure is if she was a Black women we wouldn’t be hearing about this and the maximum sentence would be leveled against her without anybody questioning it.

If everything in this story were exactly the same except the Furay family were black, there would be a huge difference in how the media covered it. No one would be talking about how perky and jolly Sarah’s smile was.
They probably would’ve immediately suspected her father of being a corrupt DEA agent, too.
I do think Sarah has class and money working for her as well, compared to how a poor white woman would be treated. But a young black woman from exactly the same social and economic class as Sarah would not be receiving this kid glove treatment.
LikeLike
Logically, the fact her father is a DEA agent should work AGAINST her at sentencing (she knew better, had other options, did it simply because she could & not out of necessity, singlehandedly undermined an entire federal law enforcement agency with a smile on her face, etc)
I wonder if it actually will though.

Yet that’s the first thing I thought when I read that her father was DEA. Are we really to believe she wasn’t in cahoots with her dad or his connects?
I can believe her dad was clueless, because parents rarely have a handle on what their adult children do, but I don’t believe for a second she can become a drug kingpin after just a year out of her parents’ house.

Sometimes we forget that anti-Black bigotry and inequality is a worldwide phenomenon. Weeks ago I saw a story that touched on the same themes in the blog, Black Women Of Brazil. Two things;

2) The numbers on this post don’t make her anywhere near a ‘kingpin’
About three tablespoons of coke, about five ounces of weed (could fit into a ziplock sandwich bag), the x, meth and tabs could be consumed by party guests at one well-attended party. Digital scales are pretty small. In all, this kingpin’s empire could fit into a child’s lunchbox.
But yeah, she’ll probably get a light sentence and it’ll probably be written off as a youthful indiscretion.

I have relatives of alot of races ,guess what I don’t care they are still family. I don’t favor a white 1 over any of the others. We all need to change stop the hate! Alot of these comments say it all . Racism is very much alive (not just white people! ) if you want to be treated equal to someone treat them as equals! Very simple and easy to do . Look at how some of this goes. People say they live in the ghetto well change it !you have the power to change your own situation, if you actually live or have lived in the ghetto what makes it such ? People plain and simple. You can bet you know who the dealers are who is shooting at who people who are trashy easy to clean up yet scared to do so . Why?change can only take place if you start with yourself hating on people because they are different than you only leads to more hate.

Sure, Abagond does post articles about Black women every once in a while however like most pro Black men, he is here for Black men. Nothing is wrong with that because everyone should look out for their own interests at heart. However I believe it is time for Black women to look out for her own interests and start doing for self.
Do you believe in intersectionality? If so, visit my blog. I talk about how the intersection of both racism and sexism intertwines for Black women and many other issues we face.

Words like “sex slave” , “breeders”, and “bed winch” need to be moderated.
Issues regarding women can be discussed fully without using language derogatory to women.
Intent is important and it should be run through Abagond to detrime if it is meant to be constructive or dismissive. .
The choices women make are theirs only and need to be respected.
Women are getting attacked in every angle.
Women are onjectified as sexual fetishises.
Women are told what they can and cannot do their bodies.
The latest focus on the terrorist attack in California is on the women. It was “her” who was the terrorist. Not the apple pie eating U.S. born American.
MRA people refer to women as “estrogen based parasites”. White femenism claim kinship to Black women in “sharing their oppression”. Terrorists periodically attack planned Parenthood Clinics. The patriarchy against women in Saudia Arabia is ignored because they are an American allie.
This white women will get a pass and society will pat themselves on the back for being so just and understanding towards women.

To me, the universal lack of press coverage for this arrest is more damning than the fact that she is out on bail. If your crime was non violent, and you have the money, then you can make bail. That is true whether you are Black or White.
HOWEVER it takes a certain kind of *magic* for this kind of ironIc story not to make headlines even in the U.S. tabloids! It means that there is a system working to keep certain things from being picked up and widely reported by the news services.
I have often argued the point that everybody knows that our universities are overflowing with narcotics. And I can tell you that Sarah Furay is the tip of the proverbial iceberg. I guarantee you that there are several much larger drug dealers servicing the campuses of Texas A&M University—as there are at Harvard, Princeton, and Columbia. And it has been that way at least since the 1960s.
If the police for one day treated the premier academic campuses like they do the inner city, they would find that White American college kids traffic in MORE DRUGS than can be found in Watts,Compton, and Harlem combined. When it comes down to it, inner city Blacks don’t have nearly the resources to buy up drugs on the level that the kids at Harvard do. But it would be a national embarrassment to realize that the elite mostly White students are bigger drug consumers than the “thugs” who they look down on.

No. I think that Marijuana is as common as coffee, and that party drugs like Ecstasy and variants of LSD are passed out like candy at party events. Still Cocaine is also quite common and Heroine is probably less so than Cocaine but always present. And, of course many prescription pills as well.

Adderall is what college kids use to get through finals. That combined with a B vitamin cocktail.
The drugs listed are “raver drugs”. It’s possible that “an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine” wasn’t meth at all but ketamine or research chemicals.
Cocaine and ecstasy go together but cocaine and LSD do not. It you are tripping on acid cocaine doesn’t have an effect on you. 25c NBOME is one of the many “research chemicals” you can find on the dark web. If somebody OD’s at a rave it will be from research chemicals. Usually ravers aren’t into meth or heroine. Poor people like meth and hipsters/Hollywood types like heroine and cocaine. Everybody smokes pot.
Ravers have a code called PLUAR meaning peace, love, unity and respect. They organize unpermitted events through social media and release actual locations a few hours before opening. Most people attending raves are doing hallucinogen’s and want to have a “good” trip so security is their to keep it peaceful and stop fights.
Concentrates are a big thing in pot legal states. Essential oils and resins from marijuana are combined to make “wax” which is then smoked in a glass pipe with a titanium nail. A blow torch is used to heat the nail up and a “dab” is added to the nail to be smoked. Yes it looks sketchy lol

Who ever wrote this is dumb. It’s not a black issue or a white issue, quit making everything into a race issue. You have B.E.T Yet if we had W.E.T we would be racist….in my experience, and I do have experience, most of the time it’s about choices people make, and a great deal of inmates in prison are repeat offenders. I was in prison with a guy that got out from dope case released back to milwaukee, wi and was arrested 4 hours later on a new dope case selling crack on a corner, he was black, I have alot of stories the same. So if he was white and did the same exact thing in exact same circumstance your saying he wouldn’t have got arrested again? No matter the color of your skin, breaking the law is the same, its a choice people make and they know the consequences for there actions and do them anyway, quit making everything about Race. What is going to get solved by turning everything into a race war? Instead of pointing fingers use that same energy to raise awareness about real issues, like educating youth on making good choices, or getting funding for education for inner city youth, something meaningful, racism isn’t a birth defect, it isn’t something people are born with, it is taught by people like you. And since when is a drug king pin such a low level dealer? Last I checked king pins sell mass quantities of drugs, 31.5 grams of cocaine is just over an ounce, Pablo Escobar sold and imported hundreds of kilos of cocaine, thousands of pounds of weed. He was a king pin! And because her dad is Dea automatically he is dirty? How stupid are you. His daughter is in college, he is in Panama and even if he was dirty, I do believe that the justice your crying for is equality in how people are perceived and that any man or woman of any color should be innocent until proven guilty. Same goes for law inforcement unless that doesn’t fit your agenda here right? Last I checked not a single black man or women alive today lived through slavery, quit using it as a crutch and a excuse get off your ass and do something about it. You want blacks to be treated the same. Last I checked any hard working black man I’ve ever worked with was treated as an equal, but sometimes I know that isn’t the case, but that’s due to idiots like you who preach injustice and inequality that keep stupid racist people going. No matter what there will always be stupid judge mental people in this world, if your not apart of the solution your part of the problem! “Why should she have any media coverage?”—-Same reason every drug dealer makes news.
“Is it because she is white that you feel she should ?”—Nope. I feel any criminal should be on the news.
“Do you realize where I live gunshots fill the air every night ?”—Nope because where you live is irrelevant to the issue of this post.
“Guess what be lucky if you hear about it even on a blog .”—- Hear what? Your nightly gun shots?
“Why should drug dealers get any attention other than by police ?”—Same reason they have always gotten media attention. So people can be aware of the dangers in their area.
Now that you are done deflecting can we get back to the fact that you falsely claimed the media blew this issue up, when in reality the media barely touched it. You have no idea the point of the post.

No, they are not and even if you wanted to attempt to lump them in as such you still have the issue of “a a few blogger.” Still making your claim false.

And yes the gunshots at night .
Are not even mentioned on news or blogs and I know my neighborhood isn’t the only 1. Guess what tho most are drug dealers so yes it’s relevant to the discussion.

OK if they are not media how did you hear about it then?

I don’t know where you live to say if it is or is not mentioned, but based on blogs I visit. I doubt it.
Gun shots in your neighborhood does not become relevant because drug dealers are doing it. Your anecdotes have nothing to do with lackluster media covers of a girl who deals drugs.
“OK if they are not media how did you hear about it then?”—Sorry but that is not how media is defined. I could hear about things through word of mouth, but that don’t mean my grandma just became the media.
Deflections, but still don’t change you falsely claimed something because you have no clue what the post is about.

I am not taking sides on this argument but I think a lot of people underestimate the reach of Abagond’s blog.
Abagond’s blog appears quite high on google when searching for related terms.
On average, for every person commenting there are a 100 people viewing (that’s a statistic that is pretty consistent across the internet).
A lot of Abagond’s posts attract more than a 100 comments.
That means 10,000 people have viewed the post. This might even be more on certain posts.
In other words, Abagond’s blog has become quite an influential news source.
Nevertheless, I agree with your point Sharina that this story was barely covered elsewhere.
The fact that she was the daughter of a DEA agent, I would have expected it to gain more traction.

The post is about a white girl getting caught for selling drugs . plain and simple!
Fairly easy to figure out.
What I am saying is why should she have media coverage other than the fact she has a dea daddy?
Media (the singular form of which is medium) is the collective communication outlets or tools that are used to store and deliver information or data.
Here’s the definition to help you out.

I agree that Abagond’s blog has a large reach, but I would not consider it a “news source.” Mainly because there is added personal opinion to it. Even though news media omits information they still report the half lies without an opinion. Granted there is debate in the journalism world on whether it should be considered credible media or not.

“The post is about a white girl getting caught for selling drugs . plain and simple!”—Actually that is not what the post is about.
“What I am saying is why should she have media coverage other than the fact she has a dea daddy?”—-Lie. You actually made two long paragraphs talking about how the media made it huge to divide us. I will quote your lie if you continue to do so. Either way.
“Here’s the definition to help you out.”—I know what the definition is. I also know there is more than one, but regardless a blog is not considered media in the sense of what is being refered to. None the less it still does not change the fact that a few blogs does not equal a lot of coverage by the media like you claimed. Dance whatever dance you want. You made a false claim.

As for the falsely claimed .I don’t feel so. This isn’t the only blog she is on also all over Facebook as well . But I’m sure nobody goes on that.

What one feels and what is a fact are indeed two different things. No one said this is the only blog she was on, but again. A Few (does not mean one) blogs does not equate to the “media” blowing it out of control.
As for facebook. I saw one post on her this week and it was even talking about how that go so little coverage.

I agree that most drug dealers are not covered in the news, but here we are talking about the daughter of a DEA agent. That SHOULD be news.
When I researched this post, I noticed that the mainstream media would barely touch it. The Washington Post is a standard source I use for stories like this. They had nothing. That was strange. Particularly since I was late to the story.
Also, when this post went up, the traffic on this site went through the roof. I expected little to nothing because I was late. A week later it is still my number one post. That is strange for a news story. Sarah Furay is not THAT good looking. What that tells me is that there is a demand for the story that is not being met by the mainstream media.
It is news, but the news is barely covering it. If it is manly just Facebook and blogs, something is wrong.

That does not contradict what I said.
I have been reading newspapers for over 40 years. It does not work like that. Articles have the date on which they were reported.

Folks, anyone notice this particular pattern in the news; anytime some Black person is assaulted or shot by the police, or some other other assault on Black people by authorities occur, these ‘news casts’ are followed by some video of Black people beating some one up or committing some crime? It’s like they are saying Black people deserve this treatment, in the very least they don’t deserve any sympathy. I have noticed this pattern on American television.

I recently saw a video that reminded me of this Sarah Furay case.
Another pretty white girl, Jennifer Berube, tried to cut a police officer’s throat!
Was she shot 16 times? Was she shot at all? Was she even imprisoned?
Have a look at this video: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyvIif2YL9o)
A clear example that white privilege is alive and well.

That is a terrible article: they give only one source and that link was broken. They give almost no names, so it is hard to check their facts. Dillon Taylor, whose name they do give, was not White.
In New York, Black crime is more likely to be reported on television news than other crime, even AFTER you account for the higher Black arrest rate:

As a former Parole Officer, I can assure you this happens. No one knows. 90% of white rarely get time, whoever has the best attorney wins. They always take private L first, then P D. She got lost between a divorce, & went lost. Her mom has a new S, her dad has a new S, with 3 little boys. She smiled, cuz she thinks this is a joke. She’ll get PreTrial Intervention, get a yr. in federal , in a country club, & then probably 20 yrs. probation. Her dad is not in country, forget him. That they do have to adjudicate this, with allllll the publicity. Probably go to rehab first, you’ll never hear her name again.

I wrote about Furay just recently on another thread. I’m spacing and can’t remember which thread included the latest Snopes info.
The update about her case I mentioned on that other thread included the information in the link you provided.
Have you found additional information about Furay on Snopes or elsewhere?
