A year ago tonight Trayvon Martin walked home from 7-Eleven with an Arizona Iced Tea and, for his brother, a bag of Skittles. Rest in Peace.

Church, this is a memoriam thread. The mere fact you put up a video clip speaks volumes. Despicable.
RIP Trayon. You were taken too soon, but you will NOT be forgotten.

This is crazy that this happened a year ago it feels like a couple of months.Time is flying by and everyone should let people in their life know what they mean to them because you never know when they will get called home. Rip trayvon.
I just pray the lord will give his mother and father peace and i also pray that the justice system gets it right and his death isn’t in vain.

I asked an important question earlier thinking about Trayvon and the overall lives of black youth dying everyday:
I am a young black male. Does that mean I deserve to die?
Of course no will have the courage or honesty to answer in the simplest way possible. Many will babble on and on about black crime rates and statistics to avoid that they are saying “yes” in so many words while trying to excuse their answer.
It’s honestly depressing to know that in this world, the value of your life is determined by the amount of melanin in your skin, something that is beyond your control. Nevertheless, one can not give in the world’s evils.

Brothawolf:
To answer your question:
In the context of white domination: Yes. You have no purpose on earth except to serve them. Once your purpose has been fulfilled, you’ll be exterminated. Trayvon could have been you, my brother, my dad, my husband, my uncle or my nephew.
The scariness of it all is the happiness whites expressed at his untimely death. It speaks volumes about their core and their unnaturalness in relation to life itself.

No, one cannot. Even though their “hierarchy of human life” absolutely affects you living your own, young Black life — you cannot give in. I’d suggest that you rather, recognize it when you see it; share it when you feel it; fight it when you can; regroup if you can’t, and do it all over again (as will be necessary, in my estimation) — ALL while keepin’ it movin’ in the direction YOU choose, young Brotha.
Tall order, but I’m sure you can handle it…

@Churchs is a despicable bigot who doesn’t value black life. A clip from the lawyer who gets rich creeps like Claus Von Bulow off after he repeatedly tried to kill his wife has no place on this thread. I thought you said that you were departing for whiter pastures @Churchs? Cannot resist the urge to crap on the memory of a young black man?
Let’s not forget Jordan Davis, Darius Simmons, Jamie Stafford and Michelle Jackson, Everett Gant, Bo Morrison, William Allen, Bobby Clark and Dannaer Fields, James Anderson who have also been targets of those who feel that it is the American way to kill black people and get away with it.

I hope we get justice for Trayvon Martin and put George Zimmerman in jail. Only a racist would defend George Zimmerman.

This tragedy has touched so many people. I’m a Christian and so I know we are living in a fallen world. Paradise was lost through Adam but paradise is regained through Jesus Christ.
God bless you!

How many times have you walked across the way to convience store to get something to drink. You are young life is good you probably thinking of that girl or guy you want. Sometimes you have your music blaring because you are filled with life. There are so many possibilities ahead of you. You are filled with that elixer so strong so sweet that even death is just a vapor dream.
You are just going for a drink, you are just out just being. Still, even if we are ignorant of it the wolves howl for our blood. That Death is every victorious. You don’t deserve to be here feeding the soil. You don’t belong here because just a moment ago life was so tasty. You ran into the smoldering hatred of another being –one cock ready to shoot out his hate. You skin so beautiful, so full of life doing its best to protect you from the suns might has inspired the jealousy of something trite. Yes this small insignificant spot has extinguished your life.
There lies American its history coming back on it. Obessed with skin tones, position, and reputation we thrust out our hate before our hand and in seconds people are dead. We build our palace brick by brick never touching our neighbors.
I remember Trayvon and Zimmerman seems to be a bastard but I will never forget it was the cops who let Zimmerman go. The law seems to be a coin and which side of it you fall seems determined by the shade of your skin. It is a damn shame you have to know try to rest in peace Trayvon.

There was some discussion last year about whether this would become an “Emmett Till” moment.
I guess not.

I disagree @jefe. There were mass outpourings of grief and anger similar to Emmett Till. This time there is a chance the assailant will go to jail.

Can one believe his last birthday was 5 years ago?

With Ferguson and the rise of Trump his death to me seems to belong to another age – or, rather, the beginning of this one. So for me it seems more like seven years than five.
