Gina Rodriguez (1984- ) was Jane of “Jane the Virgin” (2014-19) on US television. By 2018 she was already “a fifteen-time gold medalist in the Oppression Olympics” according to The Root. She is a Latina woman who avoids the word “Black” but not the N-word.
Some of her greatest hits – as of 17:38 GMT today:
July 2017: After hearing that Marvel was making a Black Panther film, she tweeted:
“Marvel and DC are killing it in inclusion and women but where are the Latinos?! Asking for a friend…”
As if Rosario Dawson and Zoe Saldana are Black but not Latina.
September 2018: When BlogXilla interviewed her and Yara Shahidi (pictured above):
BLOGXILLA (to Shahidi): You are just goals for so many young Black women –
RODRIGUEZ: So many women!
BLOGXILLA: – yeah, well for women too, but for Black women we need people on a whole ‘nother level …
All Lives Matter!
October 2018: She and America Ferrera held a Latina “power lunch” – seeming to invite only one Afro-Latina actress, Rosario Dawson:
November 2018: Rodriguez on pay in Hollywood:
“I get so petrified in this space talking about equal pay especially when you look at the intersectional aspect of it, right? Where white women get paid more than black women, black women get paid more than Asian women, Asian women get paid more than Latina women, and it’s like a very scary space to step into.”
Because you cannot be both Black and Latina. Because Sofia Vergara was not the highest paid actress on US television at the time.
January 2019: On “Sway in the Morning” she tearfully recounted:
“The black community was the only community I looked towards growing up. We didn’t have many Latino shows, and the black community made me feel like I was seen. To get [called] anti-black is [like] saying I’m anti-family. My father is dark-skinned, he’s Afro-Latino. My cousins — Puerto Ricans are African, Taino, and Spaniard, and it’s in my blood. So that was devastating to me. And I know my heart. I know what I meant. And I really wish we weren’t living in a culture where we’re clickbait, because I’ve never said anything controversial about anybody.”
Not admitting to doing anything wrong. After all, as she pointed out, it is not like Whites or Asians were upset with her.
Here she is with her “dark-skinned” father:
October 2019: Yesterday, the 15th, on Instagram she posted herself rapping with the Fugees song, “Ready or Not”, N-word and all:
“Believe me, niggas give me heebie-jeebies”
That was not well-received, given her history.
Her fauxpology:
“I am sorry if I offended anyone by singing along to The Fugees, to a song I love that I grew up on.”
The next day (today) she gave a better apology where she admitted it was wrong for her to use that word and said she would do better in future, but then said:
“I feel so deeply protective and responsible to the community of color but I have let this community down.”
avoiding the word “Black”.

Hmm. In 20 years, she will get her wish and be considered White. She’s already following the “Road to Whiteness Script” by denigrating Black people.
All Lives Matter, indeed!

I believe it’s just ridiculous that she has had to apologize all over the place for a song that she was singing that is of her generation. Come on Enough already with the political crap. She was singing a song that had the nigga word in the lyric via Lauran Hill. Put a red X patch on her like Demi Moore in the movie and have her stroll all over Hollywood.
Social media had created all of this garbage Enough Carajo. Oh and stop calling us Mami and Poppy.

She’s made quite a few anti black statements. I have never had watched her show Jane The Virgin. For me personally the n-word is a disgusting word. I don’t care how it’s spelled is an offensive word. I know it’s a generational thing and young black folks don’t have an issue with using it. But non black folks don’t have any business using it. Rodriguez made some disingenuous apology on Instagram but in my opinion she’s a racist. Many people of color harbor anti black sentiment. So if non black folks want to use the n- word they better be ready to suffer the consequences.

Yet Afro Latina/Latinos are not acknowledged by white and brown Latino/Latinas because many white Latino/Latinas default to whiteness.

I think she is Afro-Latina, the majority of Puerto Ricans are – I guess she felt comfy owning the N-word.

Not to say all Puerto Rican’s but the few I have encountered do not want to claim their African bloodline and get insulted if called black.

Our cultures may overlap but we are not the same. Non- Black folks need to stop using this word. Nobody in my opinion should be using this disgusting word, Period! Gina Rodriguez can go kick rocks, she should just admit she hates Black people.
