Remarks:
If you have ever wondered what it is like to fall in love with a dancing troll, wonder no longer. It is here expressed through the medium of British pop music circa 1970 and YouTube video circa 2016.
This would make a great song to play at the end of a boy-meets-girl movie 😉
This song was a huge hit across the English-speaking world in 1970, reaching #1 in their native Britain and #4 across the Anglosphere.
Edison Lighthouse became a one-hit wonder, but its lead singer, Tony Burrows, went on to sing on four other one-hit wonder songs:
- 1970: Brotherhood of Man: United We Stand
- 1970: White Plains: My Baby Loves Loving
- 1970: The Pipkins: Gimme Dat Ding
- 1974: The First Class: Beach Baby
On February 28th 1970 Burrows appeared on the “Top of the Pops” television show in Britain three times singing on three hit songs with three different bands!
Happy New Years!

Lyrics:
She ain’t got no money
Her clothes are kinda funny
Her hair is kinda wild and free
Oh, but Love grows where my Rosemary goes
And nobody knows like me
She talks kinda lazy
And people say she she’s crazy
And her life’s a mystery
Oh, but Love grows where my Rosemary goes
And nobody knows like me
There’s something about her hand holding mine
It’s a feeling that’s fine
And I just gotta say
She’s really got a magical spell
And it’s working so well
That I can’t get away
I’m a lucky fella
And I’ve just got to tell her
That I love her endlessly
Because Love grows where my Rosemary goes
And nobody knows like me
There’s something about her hand holding mine
It’s a feeling that’s fine
And I just gotta say
She’s really got a magical spell
And it’s working so well
That I can’t get away
I’m a lucky fella
And I’ve just got to tell her
That I love her endlessly
Because Love grows where my Rosemary goes
And nobody knows like me
Fadeout:
It keeps growing every place she’s been
And nobody knows like me
If you’ve met her, you’ll never forget her
And nobody knows like me
La la la- believe it when you’ve seen it
Nobody knows like me

Wow, I just checked that Tony Burrows is still alive and still performing today. 😮
I have some slight memories of hearing this song on the radio when I was in elementary school.
Of course, I heard it again on youtube decades later.

Gosh, this song brings back such happy memories! I remember dancing like this too~ I was around 10 or 11 years old. I loved the fashion- mini skirt, fake eyelashes, big hoop earrings! Does anyone know the name of the girl who danced in this video?

Incredibly, this clip is taken from a 1970 U.S. Army training video called “The Pleasure of Your Company” which was about female grooming in the military. The short 10-12 second clip played while the company commander was speaking to her (female) soldiers about contemporary clothing styles.
The Dancing Troll is Robin-Mary Paris, an actress who had a small part in the movie “Annie Hall” and subsequently starred in the TV series “Ryan’s Hope” and “Beacon Hill.” In a 1976 interview she claimed she “was about 15 years old” when she was cast in the Army training film that was shot at Fort McClellan, Alabama, home of the Women’s Army Corps (WAC).

Interesting, Fort McClellan is located in my mother’s hometown of Anniston, a place I visited every year growing up. In the GW Bush administration, it was refitted to become the home for the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) of the Department of Homeland Security.
And my father’s cousin’s family was there with her Chinese-born husband and their kids circa 1961-1963. They told me that they were confused when they first arrived trying to figure out which water fountain to use or which area they could sit in the movie theatre.
