Remarks:
This song came out in 2013. Safiath, also known as Safia Aminami, is from Niger. This song is sung in Zarma, a Songhai language from the south-west, and Tamasheq, a Berber language from the north that Tuaregs speak. She also sings songs in French and Hausa, two other languages of Niger.
Her father said she could be anything but a fashion designer. While studying economics and banking at university in Morocco, she became a singer in a Moroccan band that played Latin American music! Back in Niger, her guitar opened doors more easily than her university degrees. She became part of Kaidan Gaskia, one of the pioneering groups of Nigerien hip hop.

Thanks, it’s beautiful (and it’s a fun to hear a language I don’t understand)

It reminds me a bit of Caribbean music, which makes sense given the West African heritage there. Actually, the sound and the setting bring to mind “Sweetest Girl” by Wyclef Jean (who is from the Caribbean), Akon (whose parents are from West Africa), Lil Wayne (who is from New Orleans, sometimes called “the northernmost Caribbean city”), and Niia (who is from Massachusetts; her mother is from Italy, and her grandmother was an opera singer).
