Here is a list of unarmed Blacks killed by police and law enforcement in the US. It is extremely incomplete. This is just the tip of the iceberg. US police kill on average about two unarmed Black people every week, according to a study by the Guardian. That means complete list for 1964 to 2014 would have over 5,000 people – ten times more than this list.

I did not count people killed during protests, riots, massacres or executions. I did not count those killed by vigilantes or security guards.
Note that “Black”, “unarmed” and “killed” all have grey edges. That said, I apply some common sense to police accounts. Shooting yourself after being handcuffed counts as a police shooting. Weapons seen only by police count as Phantom Negro Weapons.
Do not draw any statistical conclusions from this list. It is heavy on New York and 2012, for example, simply because I know more about them.

That is too many dead people murdered and no justice for them. It’s shameful. I hope the murderers of these souls are haunted day and night for the rest of their lives, but that too much because i am thinking they have souls, seeing how the murderers of these people have no souls.

That’s just too damn many people. And sobering to note that that’s not even a complete list.
But I’m sure there’s plenty of White people who will come up with a reason why each and every single one of them deserved it. That’s their “superpower”.

Speaking of Kenneth Chamberlain in White Plains, New York, yes they kill elderly people as well. And in May of 2014 in Hearne, Texas 93 year old Pearlie Golden was gunned down in her front yard. She became agitated because her nephew took her car keys away from her, the nephew called the police because Miss Golden had a gun. I feel the police didn’t have to kill this woman in this manner. What if she had dementia? I feel she lived to this age and had to die in such a horrific manner. Same with Mr. Chamberlain. They kill old folks too.

I read a related article earlier: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/08/24/1324132/-How-Often-are-Unarmed-Black-Men-Shot-Down-By-Police
These figures are astonishing. The circumstances of these events are documented; they are often recorded by members of the public. The actions of police are clearly, visibly unjustified and, in my opinion, murderous in many cases. It is the same, microcosmically, in my country. The police kill fewer, but they always get away with it.
“Law enforcement”, like government, is corrupt and dishonest. Authority is vested in those least fit to wield it.

I have a meeting so I can say, but so much. The article you posted was probably some of the most extensive research I have ever seen. It is amazing how the FBI purposely leaves out unjustified killings. It is a crime none the less. I bet if they put it in then whites would no longer say a word about crime stats.

Trouble is most white people just switch off or tune out. A couple of times people in the office have asked me what I’m reading because they see me frowning and shaking my head (I don’t realise I’m doing it). When I explain there is usually just no interest – they’re just like, “Oh, right” or “That’s terrible” and then back to their newspaper or iPhone. No supplementary questions or discussion.
If information doesn’t come from TV or a tabloid it is not absorbed, therefore it is unreliable data that gets into heads.

Of course, there are some white people who do take a very active interest. To my anger and embarrassment I see their foul comments after pretty much every article or blog post on the topic of police murder of POC.
Statistics and data won’t change the perceptions of people who have their own twisted reality.

The killing of Blackmales unarmed is a White Supremacy lottery in hopes to kill the Black Messiah who would unite Black Nationalists. The dumb masses of Blacks think they are really citizens and get outraged when their so-called rights are violated. But the Black Nationalists are always angry, we know there is no citizenship, no equality, no justice, and no peace in a White Supremacy nation as the United States of America for people of African descent.
Its amazing some of you are relying upon the F.B.I for statistics and proper investigation when the F.B.I spent several decades assassinating Black leadership and Black activists under Cointelpro aka counter intelligence program.
How long will we put off developing Africa? How long will we put off investing in our ancestors homeland? How long will we put off preparing a racism free and white supremacy free future for our children? When will we get our children out of the meat grinder? We have over 1 trillion dollars grossed at our disposal there should be a call to utilize some of that money for the developing of Africa. Because Africa is the only place on Earth where sovereign land and authority would forbid the type of sadistic treatment we face in European countries. Who will put out the call for a real change? Not the kind of phony change that Obamanites thought Obama would bring but a real change. How long will we wait on the coming of a spook God to do for us what we alone are charged to do? Isn’t it time?

I have no intention to spin this in any other way, but I was just curious if it is easy to get data on the types of unarmed non-blacks killed by the police. Just wondering if we could glean anything from that (eg, geographical factors) that would put light on unarmed blacks killed by the police.

Examining the last 4 quickly shows what’s wrong with “A list of unarmed Blacks killed by police”
Michael Brown had already attacked the officer, fractured his face and tried to take his gun. After he charged, the officer had no choice but to shoot him as he couldn’t have outrun him or prevented the 6’4/292lb man from physically overpowering him and killing him with his own gun.
Ezell Ford had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression which no doubt contributed to the situation. So far there has been no information from either police or witnesses as to circumstances.
Dante Parker wasn’t shot. He died after being tased while resisting arrest. Tasing is supposed to be nonlethal but it happens occasionally.
Victor White was sitting in the back of a squad car when he retrieved a gun he’d hidden up his rectum. He was handcuffed behind his back and accidentally shot himself in the back while fumbling with it.
But I’m sure there’s plenty of White people who will come up with a reason why each and every single one of them deserved it. That’s their “superpower”.
Yeah, especially the guy who shot himself with a gun he’d hidden up his own ass.

@jefe just like “cop block” on fb. You’ll see plenty of unarmed americans of every race that have been shot and killed or beat to death in recent months. They also have chronicled many cases of 4th amendment violations, and “no knock raids” one was the wrong house and they threw a flash bang grenade and it went in a baby’s crib and he’s now deformed for life and has required countless surgeries. He I believe was hispanic. they have people that follow around cops around the country and people that have face injustice or brutality from the cops or feds usually will contact them and it gets posted there. I’m sure they aren’t all accurate, but most seem to be. THey have been talking about the militarization of the police for awhile, and are totally against the war on drugs , which disproportionately affects black americans, and got criticised nationally on O’reily factor after the Eric Garner choking case.
Dillon Taylor is someone where the races are reversed. I’m not saying that was racial, but those are just the facts. Happened in Salt Lake city Utah .. also in August of 2014
There was another case in Kansas where the kid (white kid) was unarmed Joseph Jennings is the latest example, ——“on Aug 25th Joseph Jennings was brutally shot by police in The Orscheln Farm and Home parking lot on 2008 Princeton St in Ottawa, Kansas.
Joseph Jenning’s aunt Brandy Smith and her husband were present. Mr Smith was a arms length away when the police threatened to shoot him if he didn’t back off. Brandy Smith told KCTV 5, that her husband backed off and police attention turned back to Jennings, that’s when one officer yelled “Bag Him” and proceeded to shoot.”——– From Copblock
THey also said “We don’t have time for this” before he was shot. Like his life wasn’t worth their time.
They don’t discriminate (at copblock) and report abuses as they happen in real time order. No matter the race.
THat is just a few. There are countless more.

That de facto segregation is short sighted and stupid.
A few years ago, my wife and I moved to the countryside. No political or social agenda, we just like the quiet and the natural surroundings. A downside that escaped our consideration was the kind of people who live in rural England. Whereas we are white-collar working class stiffs who have to treck in for 8 hours a day, most of our neighbours are aggressively middle class and very, very white. There are literally no POC living in my village. When my mixed-race step children and grandchildren visit there are plenty of alarmed double-takes thrown by certain members of the community. (Oh sh!t… there goes the neighbourhood.)
We have had our share of friction over the years due to not suffering racists quietly but things are no better in towns where demographics are more varied.
What baffles me is apathy amongst working class whites. Middle class and wealthy whites have an interest in the status quo and racism is their expected default. Working class and poor whites should see any and all oppression as portents of their own futures. It is actually in their own selfish best interests to give a damn about what is done to POC, but this is not understood.

Thanks for the empathy.
I don’t mean to make it sound worse than it is. It’s a fleeting look thing, and never followed up by overt hostility, but the fact remains that people in places like this see POC as novel and alien. Not “normal” people.
The POC in my family are fortunate. They seem to be able to function comfortably in both white and black contexts and they don’t seem to encounter much in the way of overt racism. At least, I hope that perception is accurate. They are hard-working, professional people in “respectable” jobs; I’m sure that helps with how they are perceived.
A friend of mine, the drummer in my band, frequently tells me about excellent rhythm section musicians he’s seen. The description is often something like “saw this great bass player… tall black bloke with a Jazz Bass” or “really powerful black bloke on drums”. The appreciation is there, and he will often hang around and chat to these players after their set (he has also played in bands with black people, but he feels the need to mention their blackness. He never says “I saw this excellent white percussionist on Saturday”.
It’s that kind of thing. Them and us. Even if “them” is not seen as a bad thing, “they” are still “other” – not of us.
It is simply not a productive attitude. A working class white person will often feel more affinity with a rich/middle class white person than with a working class POC. That is stupidity. In real, practical terms that affect our lives the interests of working class whites and working class POC coincide. The interests of all working class people conflict with those of the elite.
This is why I find it infuriating that working class white people cannot find empathy or sympathy for POC who are victims of violence by establishment muscle, AKA the police. Way to be divided and conquered.

First, BM,
It’s entirely inappropriate for you to question whether any of these shootings were justified or not. That’s not the purpose of this post. We are not supposed to think too hard, just sit back and read all those names and think about all the injustice and racism it must signify.
Of course all these guys were innocent. And as sharinair has said ” It is amazing how the FBI purposely leaves out unjustified killings. It is a crime none the less. I bet if they put it in then whites would no longer say a word about crime stats.”
These 100 plus completely innocent black men killed per year far outweigh the thousands gunned down by blacks every year. So we whites should just shut up. Cops also should have sensitivity training and should be required to ask those arrested whether they may have inadvertently left firearms in their rectums, so that we can avoid more senseless killings.
buddhu, you said something that makes no sense when you think about it…
“What baffles me is apathy amongst working class whites. Middle class and wealthy whites have an interest in the status quo and racism is their expected default. You’ve got it completely wrong. It is in the interest of wealthy whites to support rights for blacks/hispanics and give that lip service. By giving this lip service, they feel better about themselves and can be “social justice warriors” in their minds. Meanwhile, they have enough money to move out of downtown neighborhoods where they have to interact with blacks/hispanics on a daily basis (So do you, apparently–congratulations!). Their kids can go to lily white schools. All is good with them.
Meanwhile, working class/poor whites are stuck in neighborhoods with ever increasing portions of blacks/hispanics, which results in unsafe neighborhoods, terrible schools and worse life results overall. This is why they don’t care much about giving more benefits to POC.
Think about who really benefits the most from illegal immigration, for instance. It’s the white people in power who get cheaper labor/services, but don’t have to deal with gang fights in their neighborhoods.

I disagree.
The interests of the rich, white establishment are served by the use of smokescreens, diversions and scapegoats. Immigrants, for example, are a frequent smoke-and-mirrors tool for shifting the blame for the state of my country away from the politicians, bankers etc onto a group who are an easy target for pre-existing prejudice. People only need a gentle nudge from their favourite right-wing tabloid to blame “foreigners” for everything.
In the UK, with the employment and welfare situation as it is, the establishment does not need to send out for cheap, wage-slave labour. Poor whites will now work for peanuts.
No, to government, the value of POC (especially Muslims) and immigrants in general is as scapegoats.
Somehow, immigrants (not government policy or financial misconduct by institutions) are to blame for the economic crisis, national debt, the crisis in our NHS, crime, the breakdown of family life etc etc etc.

Hmmm… I’m not a rocket scientist (though I am a National Merit Scholar), but could it be that an increase in the supply of unskilled labor would drive down wages for unskilled laborers?
But, I’m sure Londinistan is great and it’s all the bankers fault. Anyone who says beheadings are bad is culturally insensitive.

Poverty drives crime. Whoever finds themselves under severe financial pressure – to the point of really not making ends meet – may consider desperate measures.
And then, of course, there is white-collar and corporate crime: the crimes committed by the rich and privileged that are driven by greed for more wealth and power. What is the demographic for that again? According to the innate criminality implied by some commenters, surely the perps must be mostly black and Hispanic… Oh, wait…

1. Read the title of the post. It is limited to Blacks. Listing only Blacks is not called “cherry-picking”. It is called staying on topic.
2. Whites are killed by the police too but, at least in New York, it is rare: In 2012 a Black person was 25 times more likely to be killed by the police than a White person.
Whites on this blog love telling us that the Black murder rate is 6 times higher than the White one. Even if you grant that, the police are still killing Blacks at a rate four times higher than would be “reasonable” (non-racist).

The police lie. Victor White is a good example. The autopsy shows that White was shot through the chest at a distance.

I suppose my original question was confusing.
I wasn’t asking for examples of unarmed non-blacks killed by police. I am sure that anyone can easily pluck a few out of the air.
I was wondering if there was any factor that caused police brutality to be higher in certain cases than others, if some districts targeted blacks more than others, or if any other patterns can be gleaned.
For example, New York, LA and Chicago lead the list in police brutality, which includes the killing of unarmed citizens, and victims are disproportionately black. Part of it might be related to large urban areas having more crime, but I suspect it goes beyond that. And LA has more Latinos and Asians compared to blacks, yet the police brutality rate is still very high. Is there something else operating there?
Following large urban areas, the next likely places are suburban areas that recently became majority black following white flight. For example, 20-25 years ago, Prince George’s county, MD had become majority black and middle class, but the police and elected officials were still overwhelmingly white. For a few years, its rate of police brutality trailed only NY and LA. It looks like suburban St. Louis county including Ferguson might be at that stage of development.
Later PG county had more black elected officials. I wonder if this can explain some easing of the police brutality rates experienced 20 years ago.
I suspect areas near towns in the southern black belt still have high police brutality rates for their population size.
And if there are areas in the USA with high police brutality against whites, is there any social factor explaining that? Are there areas in the USA where Latinos are the main target of police brutality?

Don’t forget Clifford Glover, a nine year old child shot in the back in the early 1970’s by an officer who was acquitted because he claimed he had a previously undetected “nervous condition” and his gun went off.

“The autopsy shows that White was shot through the chest at a distance.”
The police report said back. The coroner’s report said chest. Interesting that the cop’s mistake actually points to his innocence. If he had shot White then he would have written chest in his report. An officer wouldn’t lie about something he knows will be discovered by the coroner.
Speaking of which, the coroner’s report also said it was self-inflicted and that White’s build allowed him to reach around. You’d expect someone with their hands handcuffed behind their back to contort to get the gun in front of them where they can see it. The report does not, however, say he was shot at a distance. It said the wound lacked the stippling common to short range gunshots, Not all short range gunshots produce stippling.

Actually officers lie all the time and write reports on those lies. I know a few cases where that has happened. On top of that Whites hands were not tested for gunshot residue.

Law Enforcers lie all the time especially when caught with their pants down so to speak. Cover-ups abound. Cameras with sound would be a good way of curtailing this behaviour because many do not want to lose their jobs if caught using excessive force. Cameras with sound are particularly needed as they can not claim their ‘actions’ were taken out of ‘context’ as there was no camera with sound at the time.

@ abagond:
you say “Cops lie like it was nothing.” but what do you say about the you man who walked along with Micheal Brown when the incident took place. He said: Brown had his arms up and he was shot in the back. Now the autopsy could not give any evidence about the arms being up or down, but the autopsy gave absolutely safe evidence about the fact that Brown was NOT shot in the back. So do you still believe the “arms up” part of the story?
especially since there are are eyewitnesses who tell the exact same story as Cops, which is that Brown attacked Wilson

“especially since there are are eyewitnesses who tell the exact same story as Cops, which is that Brown attacked Wilson”—And which eyewitness was that? Could it be the one that was not there and called in to say what she was told? Is there a new one that I am unaware of?

Dave the commenter is being a typical white dude. It’s like a non-white person turning on the television and seeing only whites. It would be totally absurd to say that Black, Asian, Native American and Latino (Mestizo) networks “cherry-pick” on programs. Most whites are hilarious.

@abagond the problem as I see it isn’t black and white. It’s establishment vs. “we the people” When a cop shoots (no matter the race of the cop)a white person illegally and unconstitutionally , the narrative becomes with all activists “I can’t stand those f’n pigs” or “Cops are really instruments of the state to take our rights” When a WHITE cop shoots a black person, with some activists it becomes “See I can’t stand those f’n racist whites” So instead being mad at cops, it’s more “I can’t stand those white people”. There is evidence of that with some attacks of regular innocent white people in the name of Michael Brown. I’m sorry I don’t condone revenge attacks , but if you are going to do that take it out on the cops not, random white people. and I have been frustrated with cnn for also pushing a division narrative rather than just being about holding cops and feds accountable.

@ Dave:
But the specific issue is the killing of POC by WHITE cops. There are instances where, when called to a situation, the cops have picked on black bystanders – presumably either assuming that the black guy must be the perp, or just because they want to target POC – rather than the white trouble maker.
Cops are, indeed, instruments of the state. They are also, as a white controlled institution, systemically racist.
It IS a black/white thing. The racist cops have made it so, as have the r3dneck morons who support the killers. The fact that some of us don’t like it doesn’t change that.

This whole country is run by central banks that influence the state and also the media. alot of those people are white, and many are also jewish. That doesn’t make me hate jewish people. It’s about money, now that they have it all they want more power. That is why the narrative on cnn and other national news is more about racial division, rather than a trend nationally by police to militarize, and become more federalized and much more brutal to all people. Maybe that was in the past only against black people for racial reasons and I’m sure that still goes on at a local level. But lately the trend is to come down hard on people no matter their race.
If the narrative is it only happens to blacks on cnn, they get you to choose sides on racial lines and people are taking sides with the white cop. Instead of everyone realizing this is a problem for all of us and banning together to stop it.

Ok so I think this is a better answer to Jefe’s question. This study shows blacks are more likely nationally to be killed by cops on a 3 to 1 margin , taking into account percentage of population. That’s why if you notice in the graph chart, in some states it looks like it happens to whites more.

Sooo, how many white people have black cops turned over to black racists mobs to:
hang, burn, mutilate, desecrate, rape, run out of town, steal land from….?
That’s your point, isn’t it? So WHERE is this list?
And after you find that list, can you find the list of white overseers and ship crew members that captive kidnapped blacks managed to throw overboard during the Atlantic Slave Trade? Lemme know when you find that list. I have a few other missing “lists” for you to locate!

One of Sean Bell’s killers was Black. A few of the others may have had Black killers.
In my experience, US newspapers generally do not give the name, description or picture of killer cops who kill in the line of duty. The main exceptions seem to be:
1. It becomes a racial incident, like Ferguson.
2. It is caught on citizen video, like Eric Garner or Oscar Grant.
3. It goes to court.
Those who kill OFF DUTY are far more likely to get their names and faces in the papers, especially if it was a case of domestic violence.
I did a post on the people the New York police killed in 2013. Of the 16 killed by on-duty police officers, in only three cases, as far as I can remember, did the news make the race of the killer cops apparent.

http://photographyisnotacrime.com/2014/12/beavercreek-police-sued/
The really bull-sh#t part is that the lawyers for the family are suing –
excerpt:
“The current lawsuit claims that the Beavercreek Police Department and Walmart are liable, as they were negligible in this incident. The lawsuit claims that Walmart personnel were well aware of Crawford’s presence with the gun long before police arrived and that employees had a “duty to ensure Crawford and customers were safe.” It is asking for $75,000 in damages to go towards the two children Crawford left behind.”
end of excerpt
$75,000???? WTH
Obviously those involved in this major miscarriage of just-us have absolutely no regard for this young (now dead) black man, or his babies.
$75,000?? This is fuxking incredible! Are these lawyers actually working for Crawford’s family, or Walmart and the murdering Beavercreek police department?
Black people better wake the fuxk up and realize that all we have is each other… no one is gonna come to our rescue — but us.

I had read in many places that PG county MD led the nation in the 1990s (even ahead of NYC and LA) re: police induced fatalities, and included a source for that in the post on PG. Almost half were unarmed blacks. That is when the rest of my family was still living there and I was visiting on a regular basis. Maybe I need to dig some up for this list.

Here is a list making the rounds on Tumblr. It is a list of the 194 Black people killed in the US by police in 2014 and the 60 killed so far in 2015.
NOTE:
1. The list is unverified.
2. Probably only half were unarmed.

“Federal immigration agent shoots and kills 20-year-old black man in Detroit” (with video)
http://fusion.net/story/127097/federal-immigration-agent-shoots-and-kills-19-year-old-black-man-in-detroit/
“A federal immigration agent shot and killed a 20-year-old black man in Detroit on Monday.
The agent — with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) — was participating in a fugitive task force operation with the Detroit Police Department. The task force sought to serve an armed robbery warrant at a home on the west side of the city, according to news reports.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig said he was informed the task force members did not force their way into the house and were allowed inside.
“I’m also told that the agent may have been faced with a threat, and it was at that point when he decided to use deadly force,” Craig told reporters.
While police have not officially named the victim, news reports identified the man as 20-year-old Terrance Kellom.
WXYZ Detroit, a local ABC affiliate, interviewed Kellom’s father, who said he witnessed the shooting. He claims his son was unarmed and was shot six to eight times.”
“Detroit Police Chief James Craig said on Tuesday that the suspect was”armed with a hammer” and that the ICE agent fired while retreating. “

Posts like Devon’s amaze and confuse me. White people have such perfect grasp of “per capita” when they’re talking about (or pleasuring themselves to) black crime stats. Bring up police brutality and that grasp goes as limp as a corpse.
God level cognitive dissonance

A lot of times the black women fall through the cracks so I have to mention what happened to Sandra Bland recently.
http://abc7chicago.com/news/road-trip-for-suburban-woman-ends-in-jailhouse-death/853139/
Sandra had just moved to Texas after accepting a job at her almer mater. She was pulled over for failing to signal a turn yet they used so much force that she was caught on camera complaining about her head being bashed into the ground. They charged her with assaulting a police officer, no doubt a trumped up charge, before she was found asphyxiated due to a purported suicide three days later.
More light needs to be shone on this. I dont trust the police to investigate.

This is disturbing and so sad that the police will shoot to kill rather than taking the person into custody. Police reform is needed and it should start at the highest level.

This is depressing and infuriating. It has got to change so tired of seeing Fathers, Husbands, Brothers and Sons reduced to a # without ever having a chance at living a long life. Not being able to reach their goals and dreams.
Could you also add Terrance Sterling to your list? He was killed by DC police on September 11, 2016. He was unarmed and if you read about his murder I think you will agree that his story needs to be told.

23 year old Stephan Clark is gunned down in his grandparents backyard. Shot 20 times, police thought he had a gun and it was his iPhone. This happened March 19, 2018. Police responded to 911 call of a car being vandalized. There is camera footage of this unarmed black man being murdered in his grandparents backyard. The mainstream media has been silent. Rest In Peace young brother.

Also Gregory Edwards (a 38-year-old Black veteran with PTSD killed in 2019 while in custody at Brevard County Jail in Florida). His widow (also a veteran with PTSD) is currently being harassed by the police after demanding to see the video. The sheriff claims that the killing was justified and he fought like a “caged animal”, and will not release the video.
The whole murder and the police response has been horrific but not getting much coverage outside of local news. The sheriff is a Trump loyalist who has a game-show style YouTube channel doxxing (mostly Black) criminals.
