Alicia Keys: Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart

This song came out in November 2009. I wanted to post it then, but the YouTube video was not embeddable. Now it is, though you might have to suffer through an ad first. The song went to #2 on the American R&B charts, #27 on the pop charts and #7 in Britain.

In the video Alicia Keys brings a dog back from the dead and flies through the air with her purple power but she cannot touch the man she loves. It goes like that sometimes.

The video was shot in New York in October 2009, part of it in a cold Brooklyn warehouse – you know, the kind with grand pianos. That bridge she crosses is the Manhattan Bridge, the one just north of the Brooklyn Bridge. The part at the beginning with the brownstones and housing projects reminds me of Harlem, but there are plenty of other parts of the city like that.

I absolutely love this song. It makes me think of my ex and how it really was doomed from the beginning but naturally I couldn’t see it at the time. It’s sweet and powerful. That guy in the video is the hotness as well.

Anyway, I’m married now very happily. My ex helped me to recognize real love when it came along! And that’s what this song means to me. It’s my favorite by her so far. And I’m not gay or anything, but yeah, Alicia looks hot. She’s a thick girl.
