Remarks:
Having done posts lately on both Darwin and Angela Bassett this is the perfect song. It is Angela Bassett you hear saying “Right here! Right now!”, sampled from her film “Strange Days” (1995). This song reached #2 on the British charts in 1999.
I just want to say that i read your blog because there was a link posted on the white godess blog( which btw, as a young black 16 year old girl— made me cry for hours)
thank you.
i love you.

Thank you.
You should tell Tnameat (the owner of the White Goddessblog) that he made you cry for hours. He should know that if he does not already.
In case you have not seen it already, I wrote a post about his blog:

hey, Crusaderfor truth,
stupid people you can find everywhere, that’s something we have to accept
what i can’t bear, is that still nowadays, in an advanced country, what happened to you can still be common…
i think attraction is very conditioned by society, smart people will realize that and be free to like whatever they feel.
i guess everyone should like people of any origin the same, but in my case, i prefer women who are different than me… in spanish we say, “for the tastes, there are the colours” (i found on the web the translation “to each his own”) and it seems for mine there is the brown, preferably dark brown !
if we leave appart the matter of taste, and get into really comparing women of different races (i say race here, but i consider it a social concept), i would think only of what one can see, as in the inside every woman is a different world.
and if we want to play the game on the looks, trying to compare real facts, i mainly find them scoring for the black girls side… of course, one has to be quite free of prejudices for that…
a different issue, would be for me, the personality of everyone, or if white women are “often” this way or black women are “often” the other…
i hope what i say is another small help for you and people in your situation to feel better and freer…
i think my opinion could be interesting as i’m a spanish guy. i live in what was an almost completely white country 15 years ago, but, happily, finding girls of other backgrounds has become easier thanks to massive inmigration. i also have the experience of one year in Cuba.
i hope i made possible to understand everything i tried to mean.
(this is my first comment on your blogs, Abagond ! i discover them last christmas and i want to thank you for them – especially Black Beauty of the Day 🙂 -, they are a bit UScentric, but as long as you yourself say it often it’s ok!)

OMG I never knew that was Angela’s voice on this track. I loved this song then and now. I just love trip-hop. DJ Shadow, Moby Fat Boy Slim. Yo Abagond there is a video by Fay Boy Slim that is racial satire that you would enjoy and it is funny. It’s Called “Don’t Let the Man Get you Down” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLjBVevZwjg

Now Dani,
I wouldn’t call Moby or Fatboy Slim’s music “trip hop”. Back in FS’ commerical heyday, his music was catergorized as “big beat”. You know how those Brits love to create new genre names! (i.e. “shoegazing”, “broken beat”, “trip hop”, “acid jazz”, “dubstep”, etc.)
I actually don’t care for Moby or Fatboy’s stuff. This song in particular makes me anxious. Anxious for it to be over!
Now, Portishead, Massive Attack, Tricky…that’s the class “trip hop” stuff. MA has a new album coming out in two weeks, actually (same day as Sade and Gil Scott Heron’s first albums in almost 10+ years.) I can’t wait to see how they evolve that mid-’90s sound into the 2010s.

I had no idea it was Angela Bassett! And I call myself a fan 😦
I am not really into Fatboy Slim, but this video… Amazing. My favourite music video. I really hate when they cut its ending (after the music stops, the man sits, and stars are above. They often cut this part on TV. I have no idea why. It’s just additional 2 seconds. But very important ones).

Dani,
“Boudoir Synema” is the shhh!! LOL. I actually got finished listening to it on my iPod. “Crawl All Over” is actually up to 40 plays on my iTunes.
The new MA album should be interesting. I actually own the web-only EP they released late last year. The track, with Tunde from TV On The Radio, is classic MA yet doesn’t sound dated.
Has anyone heard anything new from Fatboy Slim since his late ’90s commerical heyday? He kind of disappeared.

mynameismyname,
Man the whole j*daVey mixtape is playing non stop on my ipod as well. I have a new favorite everyday. Mines today is “Permission”. It has a Prince flavor to it. I can see why Prince okay’d j*daVey they are just the shhhh! I will admit I was a bit worried about their single “Mama’s Back” that was lackluster coming from them but they had to have a commercial song to gain attention to the MTV crowd.
As far as Fatboy Slim I did hear a more recent song I think it’s called “Slash dot com” it’s horrible. I liked more of his 90’s songs better though. Like “Rockerfeller Skank” and “Gangster Trippin'” However Chemical Brothers are still doing it though.

Dani,
I love “Permission”. Next to “Crawl”, it’s my favorite! It’s on some straight ’80s, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis stuff but with a futuristic twist! I love J*DaVeY’s stuff because it comes from such a new perspective.
I initially didn’t care for “Mama’s Back” either. But it defintely grew on me. I really like the piano part during the bridge. The same guy who produced Timbaland & One Republic’s severely overplayed “Apologize” co-produced “Mama’s Back” so that may explain the commerical feel of the track.
I see that FS released another album around 2004. It included the aforementioned “Slash dot com”. You know what? After listening to samples to that album, I see why he’s faded away! It was crap! LOL.
Never could get into the Chemical Brothers but “Star Guitar” is my running song. That song gets my adereline going. It’s perfect to run to. LOL.
