Remarks:
I love the words to this song.
Lyrics:
So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We’re just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.
Epic song, epic album.

Thank you for showing this. It is one of my favorite songs and my favorite bands. When I was 16 my Mom told me this band was just for white people, so it makes me feel so much better to see it isn’t.

I almost got excited when I saw the title because I thought it was “Wishing You Were Here” by Chicago.

Do not ever let anyone tell you what you should or should not like because of your race. You are you, who will be here on this earth only once.

True. I think people are a bit more cosmopolitan in their interesting these days, but I remember when growing up, black kids were that did like rock music were alienated and told they were trying to be white. There was strong social pressure to not listen to “white music” and of course any rock music was called “heavy metal”. Glad it’s not like that so much today.

This is interesting, because there are a lot (and I mean a lot) of black and non-white people in rock music. More than in some other areas which are also labelled “white”. What I’m saying is: it’s still rare to see a black fashion model in a “mainstream” fashion show. Non-white people in rock music? Much more common.
Maybe this could be a good idea for a post- who is rock music considered “white”?
As for Pink Floyd: It’s not one of my favourite bands, but I guess it’s because I am way too young, and my parents were more “the Beatles”, “the Rolling Stones”, or “The Doors fans”. So if you’re not really growing up with a band’s music (especially if you’re teenager), you can’t appreciate it with the same passion. Which doesn’t mean I am unable to see Pink Floyd’s greatness.

I’m going to get stoned! I never liked this song. lol
I never understood it (and I can find meaning in a dung heap sometimes) and whenever I looked up ‘wish you were here” on youtube looking for Incubus I would come up with this. Drove me nuts!
Can I redeem myself and say I loved the heck out of The Wall? I even had the t-shirt to prove it? No? Ok, I’ll head back to my corner then.

Abagond, you’re so cool for the Pink Floyd reference. Shine on, crazy diamond! I think wish you were here was dedicated to Syd Barrett. Great song.
