Listed below are the 36 men that at least four commenters on this blog think are gorgeous. Pick the one you think is the most gorgeous.
The poll will close Monday night California time (Tuesday January 5th 2010 at 08:00 GMT) – unless there is still more than one tie or a tie for tenth place.
The next day I will do a post listing the top ten. In time I will do a separate post on each of the ten winners.
First come the pictures (click to enlarge) and then comes the poll itself. Everything is in alphabetical order by first name.
You have only one vote, so use it wisely!!!

You have great taste in men. I love the variety. I agree with your list except for Clooney and Miller. Clooney just doesn’t do it for me anymore and Miller never did. Anyway, I think it’s impossible to just choose one but I think Will Demps is really sexy and beautiful because he’s the perfect example of what beauty interracial love can create. By the way, his brother, Marcus is hot too. Oh and I love Obama. He is so debonair, smooth and sexy. And Idris Elba is pure dark sexual chocolate. Maxwell is just so lovely. Shemar Moore is delicious. See I told you I couldn’t pick just one. 🙂

How I chose the pictures:
1. If there was a usable picture in the nomination thread, I used the first one.
2. Otherwise I took the first usable picture from Google Images. This is supposed to be the most linked-to picture for that man on the Web.
“Usable” means
– easy to copy
– shows only him and only once
– is PG-13.
I broke these rules only once: for Bob Marley. I did not think the first pictures of him did him justice by a long shot, so I took a well-known picture.
I am not happy with some of the pictures, but now that the poll has started I do not want to change any of them.

It is still early, but in about 12 hours we should have a good rough idea who will be in the top ten. At that point it will be a battle for places 8, 9 and 10. But sometimes I get heavy traffic on Sunday, so it could change quite a bit even then.

The irony of who seems to have won the most gorgeous man in the world is killing me.
Funny how the majority of the nominations went to black men, but a black man isn’t going to win. With the exception of Oh Ji Ho (41 votes) the runner ups (Johnny, Keanu, James Franco) looks like the list of People’s magazine most beautiful with the obligatory black man (Idris) and the “futuristic mixed race hunks” (Will Demps and the Pres).
Guess the mainstream has infiltrated deeper than we like to think.

Who is voting for Oh Ji Ho? Show yourselves! I knew there were women here who think he is attractive, but he is winning by a landslide. He is not an unattractive man, but the most gorgeous man in the world — not in my opinion. Did a bunch of people who never visit show up to vote for him or did someone send out a mass email asking to vote for him? 🙂
I was thinking the same thing. I’m really upset by the results. I’m almost certain that most of the women who contribute to this blog are Black. I don’t want to hear another Black woman complain about Black men being dismissive. It looks like self-hatred is still very prevalent in the Black community. Abagond’s “most beautiful women” list has nothing on this one. This appears to be self-hate at its finest. I’m embarrassed.
When the voting was going on, I was sure there would be mainly black men in the top five. And I was correct with Tyson Beckford, Morris Chestnut, TJ Holmes, and Idris Elba behind Johnny Depp (Why??! Heh.) rounding out the top five. Now the voting isn’t going that way. But am I truly surprised at the results? Can’t say that I am.
I think we should have a “Most gorgeous black men” list, if Abagond chooses; after all he had one for women. Although at the same time it is a pity that a black man can’t win against men of all races, especially on a blog like this. If black people can’t love black people, no one will.
Btw, Sami, Obama doesn’t really seem like a “futuristic mix” to me. When I first saw him way back before his campaign, I did not guess he was biracial, I thought he was black.

Oh Ji Ho has been a favourite through out the process. He got six nominations and seconds, a process in which most of those who took part seemed to be black women.
On the other hand, 19% is suspect. I was expecting the winner to get like 10 to 12%. I did a Google search and there are two South Korean websites linked to this poll.
The poll is also linked through PollDaddy, which runs the poll. That too will affect the demographic.

I’m surprised Morris Chestnut and Boris Kodjoe haven’t gotten that many votes. Plenty of women I know drool over them. To me, they are a couple of the most masculine men up there. Then again, I was reading not too long ago about a study in which women found men with more stereotypically feminine appearances to be more attractive than their stereotypically masculine-looking counterparts. If this poll is to believed, that study was too accurate.

I don’t think anyone is asking for an apology from those black women who voted for non-black men (I’m certainly not, I would be a hypocrite if I were since my SO is not black). But it was intriguing that only one black man managed the top five on a blog which has demographics such as this one. Would that be the case for a blog targeted at the majority — would the top five consist of non-majority men? I don’t think so. But anyway, abagond explained that the poll was linked elsewhere, so it’s no longer a wonder why the poll is going the way it is.

There is two websites in South Korea that link to this poll. It has brought in 37 hits.
There is also a websiite in China that has brought in 35 hits.
There could well be others I do not know about.
Overall, about 29% of those who visit this page cast a vote. So those three links probably added at least 21 votes to the poll.

1) There are too many men to choose from.
2) You can only vote once, which means a lot of the votes will be dispersed. If we were allowed up to three votes, then maybe the results for Oh Ji Ho would not have been so strong, since others would have been getting votes, which I believe would have led to a very clear top 10.

I don’t think Abagond should do a most gorgeous black man list. It’s sad that we would even have to separate the races in order for the majority of the winners to be non-white.
I’m actually surprised (well was now that Abagond has clarified) that Oh Ji Ho had so many votes. I actually expected TJ Holmes to win because the last time I checked he had the majority of the nominations/seconds. Sorry, but I don’t think those extra votes for Oh Ji Ho should count especially considering that it looks like they came here to vote for him exclusively because he’s a S. Korean actor. He’s not even the best looking Korean dude I’ve ever seen.
@Natasha W: Barack is not a “futuristic mixed hunk” to me either. Without knowing about his mother I would never assume he was mixed. I brought that up because too many times in the MSM and even on some “progressive” blogs people like to talk about how mixed people are the future. “They show we’re making progress and racism is going away” and all that hoopla. I don’t think interracial relationships are futuristic (people have been doing this for years) and I definitely don’t think they should be put on a pedestal. That is problematic in so many ways.

Oh Ji Ho is one of many Korean actors, but he is more well known for his looks, well, at least in many parts across Asia. Imho, I don’t think his being a S. Korean actor has anything to do with it. Abagond’s blog is open to everyone, yes? So those people who came here to vote for him, including yours truly, probably voted for him because they thought he was a nice looking man. As for the most gorgeous man in the world? It’s subjective. One man you may deem very attractive may not be as attractive to someone else.
However, I agee that those extra votes should be considered null and void if those voters’ sole purpose was to vote for him and they don’t usually come to this particular blog. Also, even if many of you didn’t know of Oh Ji Ho before, there are some people on here besides me who do. I mean, there are well known actors/actresses in their respective countries whom I’ve never heard of either, but it doesn’t necessarily mean others haven’t. I hope I’m making sense.

I am surprised by the results. True, most of site regulars are black (not all of them, but still, the majority). Still, it’s not the point. Just look at the nominations: plenty of black men, but there were also non-black guys who got many nominations and seconds.
Still, the voting went in a different direction. Johnny Depp is the only man who got many nominations (and seconds) and is in top 10 (or even top 5). What happened to Tyson Beckford??? He had many nominations! Same goes for Morris Chestnut and TJ Holmes. Nothing against Oh Ji Ho; I am just surprised by the results. It’s obvious some non-regular visitors are voting.

Imho, I don’t think his being a S. Korean actor has anything to do with it.
You could be right, but I simply stated that it looks like he had the majority of the votes because of his S. Korean superstardom (I don’t really know if he’s a superstar or not.) because of where Abagond said a lot of the traffic came from. I don’t think it’s unfair to say that. It looks like they exclusively came here to vote for him because they know and love him. I mean, the numbers drop from 41 to the second highest being like 12.
Abagond’s blog is open to everyone, yes? So those people who came here to vote for him, including yours truly, probably voted for him because they thought he was a nice looking man.
Yes, most definitely Abagond’s blog is open to everyone. I definitely don’t think every single one of his 41 votes were from people who never partake in this blog and who came here solely to vote for him, but I think it’s pretty apparent from the immense outside linkage and traffic that that did happen in a big way. If the votes had went the same, but with another actor on the list I would still be completely surprised just because of the drastic jump. I wonder how many people did what Aiyo’s friend did and not necessarily just for Oh Ji Ho.
And yes, looks are purely subjective and while my sideline husbands are Laz, Lee, Michael E, Jimmy Franco, Mehcad Brooks (one of the best asses I’ve ever seen) and John Cho (actually really surprised he didn’t get more play) I think it was pretty apparent that Oh Ji Ho would get a decent amount of votes . . . just not as many as he did.

I understand completely. I was hoping that Oh Ji Ho would receive some votes, since AMs in particular are perceived (in the media) to be lacking attractiveness and sex appeal, but come on now, this is ridiculous! Also, I didn’t expect some people were able to vote more than once, hence, the skewed results.

We shouldn’t be upset that a Black person didn’t win first place. I’m Black but I think that if you have to make a choice, you shouldn’t just base it on colour. There can be a White,Asian, or person of any other race who appeals to some more than the Black men on the list and I guess most voters thought Oh was the most attractive.
I’m surprised that Barack Obama was second place. I like him but in my opinion he’s not that attractive compared to most men on the list. I’m sure most people who voted for him wouldn’t stop and stare if he were walking down the street if he weren’t the president of the USA. But I do understand that famous people have an advantage when it comes to such judgement.

I know it sounds “cliche”, but a good humble personality goes a long way for me. I love it when a man is good looking and not conceited and arogant.
That is one the attributes I loved about Michael Jackson, especially when he was younger. He seemed to be such a gentleman, sensitive, strong.
Well, anyway, let me stop daydreaming about good looking men!!!

“I agree with you, Barack Obama (with all due respect to Michelle) is very good looking to me.”
I think Michelle is a goodlooking woman. Very elegant with a body that makes women wish they hit the gym more often. I’m just mad she got to him first (and actually didn’t want him originally… crazy woman!)

I don’t know about Barack being humble… 🙂 He seems to have a healthy dose of confidence.
And yes, another Most Gorgeous Man post is long overdue.

Co-sign. I know Abagond is not really interested in doing it. That’s why I think women should write those guest posts. We need separate posts for top 6 people, and also the most gorgeous black man list (and possibly white)- as promised.
As for Obama, he is good looking, but Michelle is also very attractive.

I think we should really try to “coerce” Abagond. We ladies are about due!!!!
Natasha, you don’t think President Obama is humble, I do. He has that quality about him like Michael Jackson and Denzel Washington. It’s a rare quality to find in a man that is intelligent, handsome, and not too full of hisself. Excluding the men that comment (and Abagond I’m sure) on this site of course!

Mira is right: I did promise to do a post on each of the Gorgeous Men. So I will do one post a week until everyone on the list has been posted.
LikeLike
Also: if anyone wants to submit a guest post on any of the remaining Gorgeous Men, I am open to that. My length requirement is 500 words – if you go over that I will edit it down to 500. Also send any pictures you want to go with the post and tell me which one you want to appear at the top. No naked pictures please!!!
The remaining Gorgeous Men:
Oh Ji Ho
Johnny Depp
Keanu Reeves
Will Demps
I will also accept guest posts on any of the Gorgeous East Asian Men:
Daniel Henney
Takeshi Kaneshiro
Russell Wong
John Cho
Rain
Ken Watanabe
Johnny Tri Nguyen
Bruce Lee
Tony Leung Ka-fai
and on the remaining top ten black men in this poll:
Wentworth Miller
Morris Chestnut
Tupac Shakur
Hill Harper
But if you do Tupac it might wind up being a joint post.

Abagond I hope the person who write the one about Tupac do him justice. No offense but too many of your commenters strike me as individuals who walk around holding their ass all tight. They look down on black Americans who grew up poor and come from where he came from. Im going to send you a email.

I love Tupac. I grew in one of the poorest neighborhoods on the South Side of Chicago so I can relate to him a lot. Plus, I always thought he was a good looking man and his intelligence, which was unrecognized, knocked me out. His music is and his rap is timeless. He was one of our musical genuises.

G-ball I wasnt talking about you at all. Ive never gotten that impression from any of your comments. I agree with you about Tupac being intelligent and goodlooking.

How about adding ‘hot men from history? How about hot Martian men?

I could “do” Johnny Depp 😀
I do think it’s best for ladies to write these guest posts… I think it would be quicker and more enthusiastic.
Oh, and Gary Oldman
Wha… But I was the only one who nominated him. It’s not like he’s super-hot or even conventionally attractive, but he’s just unique and an excellent actor.

Also, “the blackness of Wentworth Miller” would be an interesting read.

Pretty sure that someone nominated him originally. But he didn’t get enough nominations (four) to make it into the poll.
Personally, he’s okay. He looks better with facial hair and has a nice smile. But his hair looks like it’s running away from his face.

I think a post on what Wentworth Miller has to say about racial issues would be interesting. He has been involved in some controversies regarding this topic over the years. I found his comment about being an ethnic “Lone Ranger” quite interesting.

Looking at the search stats for this blog, here are the most sought after men on this blog who have no post:
djimon hounsou
daniel henney
tyson beckford
I already listed Henney above as a possible guest post. Due to lurker demand I will probably do ones on Hounsou and Beckford, so guest posts on them would be welcomed too.
I agree with Mira: a guest posts by women would be better than posts by me since they would bring a level of appreciation that I just would not.

Oh man, I wish I had known about this poll! My favorite subject: discussing gorgeous men! LOL! I think many of these men were very handsome; there’s just something about a man of color with big, brown eyes that makes me weak in the knees (fans herself). If you do another poll like this, please include Adam Rodriguez, Jay Tavare, Ricardo Antonio Chavira and Michael and Eddie Spears. Ladies, google these men. You will NOT be sorry!

So, what are we going to do, ladies? Abagond? These guest posts are not going to write by themselves!

Mochasister, I agree on Adam Rodriguez. He is very handsome. But the others… eh. 🙂 I like men with longer hair, but their hair is a little too long.
Mira, I might do a guest post on Takeshi (and maybe Daniel Henney). It depends on the amount of free time I have and what sources are available.

Okay, I’ve begun to write the post on Takeshi Kaneshiro. I may or may not finish today, depending on my workload.

There is no such thing as a too long hair on a man!
No, wait, maybe there is… If it’s reaching the ground or something.
Ok, so we got Will Demps. Who’s next? Keanu Reeves, I think.

I don’t like hair on men that is more than a few inches past shoulder length.
I’m half done (250 words down) with the guest post on Takeshi Kaneshiro. So he could be next.

Normally I would agree with you about the men with long hair, but for some reason I think it fits these men. I don’t know why I like the long haired look on Native American men and not say members of a heavy metal group. I also like some Black men with locks. Malcolm Jamal Warner was (and still is) so foine with his locks; I used to daydream about playing with his hair! LOL! I was hurt when he cut them off. 😦 Can’t wait to read your post.

I did it! I wrote a post on Johnny Depp. Making it 500 words long only was, strangely, not the hardest thing to do: staying objective was tricky.

No, his hair is just fine. 🙂
I don’t know why I like the long haired look on Native American men and not say members of a heavy metal group.
There’s a reason for it. They want to look angry, dirty and “tough” (I guess… ?) Also, they often choose questionable hair styles. But long hair on white men can look great too. Long hair (as in: lots of it) looks amazing regardless of a man’s race.
