Remember this video, “Yes We Can”, the one where John Legend sang and Barack Obama spoke? Remember back in January 2008, way back then, before Super Tuesday when we thought Hillary Clinton would crush Obama like a bug? We all hoped and voted but never dreamed we would see this day.
Yes, We Can.

Now reading:
I knew this day was coming. Never had a doubt he’d win. I knew. All along, they should have just put Hillary as the VP and really gone for it.
Egos have a way of destroying good things. No worries. Obama is the right man for the job.
He is going to win.

This is very inspiring!
Unfortunately it’s loading too slowly for me. I should watch this before my next vet med test for inspiration, lol.
I remember the first time I saw this, I felt like I had somehow traveled back in time to the courageous days of MLK—powerful, motivating, and unique.
I think B.O. will do many beautiful things once elected, if given the chance.

Well, I hate to say it, but Obama could lose. It will come down to turnout. The younger half of the country is ready for a black president, but many of the older whites are not – and it is the older whites who are the most regular voters.
Hillary Clinton did best in the redneck belt that stretches from Arkansas to Pennsylvania. You can see that clearly in these cool Democratic primary maps here:
http://mengbomin.wordpress.com/2008/06/05/keeping-this-update-brief/
It bears an interesting resemblances to the nigger map here (states where people are most likely to Google the word “nigger” – something that mynameismyname pointed out to me):
http://www.google.com/insights/search/#cat&q=nigger&cmpt=q&date&clp&geo=US
Notice not just the redneck belt but also the north-west part of the country where Obama did surprisingly well.
If Obama loses it will in fact be because the country is not ready for a black president. That is the bad news. The good news is that those older whites who grew up in Jim Crow days will die off and in 20 years we will be ready. In 20 years Obama will still be younger than McCain is now!

Abagond,
You couldn’t help yourself I guess. Though in fact, it was not so much the whites that voted against Obama, but the Latino community as well. They need to turn out for Obama to help swing states like Nevada and New Mexico.
Let us also remember that he did not win Cali, New York, PA, Florida or Ohio..he needs to get the turn out from all minorities – which he has not been getting.
Please do not call upon the race card here – that is excatly what the Republicans want you to do.
If Obama loses, it will not be bacause he is black, it will be because of his stance on Abortion, Gay Rights, and Taxes.

It was a great moment. John Lewis was there and he cried too. He is a congressman from Georgia who is old enough to remember Jim Crow and took part in the civil rights movement. He was at Selma and was one of the Freedom Riders. As the head of SNCC he spoke on that day that Martin Luther King gave his “I Have a Dream” speech.

Old white people are not the only voters that Obama has trouble with. He did not do well with Hispanics either, as Stal pointed out.
I know the Republicans want to make this about race, but it does not help to close your eyes to racism when it is in fact there. Obama does have trouble with older white voters and I think racism is a part of that. And there are far more of them than anyone else.

There’s actually been reports of “Hispanic” voters (mainly Mexicans) who have turned around and started supporting Obama: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/02/obama-not-actually-having_n_110496.html.
Now, whether or not, the “Hispanic” (mainly Mexican) block remains consistent during election time …we’ll have to wait to see.
