Amy Holmes (1973- ) is CNN’s most beautiful talking head, putting a pretty black face to the Republican party line. She started with CNN in 2007. She has also been on Fox News, “Real Time with Bill Maher”, “The View” and BET. She would like to become the next Charlie Rose
She has beautiful eyes I could look at forever! I probably only hear half of what she says!
It is not just me, either: Rosie O’Donnell says she is “very pretty”.
On CNN she talks like a Republican, being careful to savage Barack Obama. But on “The View” she told us she is an independent who is for abortion.
She was born in Africa in Zambia to a black man and a white American mother. Her parents broke up when she was three and her mother came back with her to America, where she grew up in Seattle.
Like Michelle Obama she went to Princeton University, but unlike her she felt at home there. She studied economics. She says it helped her to learn how to think. In those days she was a Democrat, did not eat meat, worked for animal rights and voted for Bill Clinton.
After Princeton she went to work in the music industry in Seattle, but missed the East Coast. She wanted to move to New York, but wound up in Washington, DC where a friend of hers lived. That was in October 1995.
There she started reading right-wing magazines like the National Review, which she read at Starbucks hiding it inside a copy of the left-wing New Republic. One thing led to another and she wound up working for Arianna Huffington.
After only two months in Washington her picture was in the Washington Post as a young new face of the black right-wing! That brought her to the attention of television producers. In time that got her on MSNBC, Fox News and BET.
From 1996 to 1998 she worked for the Independent Women’s Forum, a right-wing think tank.
From 1999 to 2001 she wrote a monthly column for USA Today. She has also written for the Washington Post and the National Review – the magazine she used to hide at Starbucks!
In 2002 she had her own show on BET, “Lead Story”.
From 2003 to 2006 she was a speech writer for Senator Bill Frist of Tennessee. She told him she was for abortion and not against same-sex marriage, but he hired her anyway.
Some say her right-wing views are not heart-felt but just a way to get on television.
Her Republicanism seems more white and north-eastern than black: she is more like Giuliani, say, than Alan Keyes or Condoleezza Rice, whose Republicanism has a strong moral element.
She has a long history of dating the Jewish people, as she puts it. She does not seem to be Jewish herself: she celebrates Christmas. Not that that necessarily proves anything.
Some of the men she has dated were much older than her: Mickey Kaus and Lloyd Grove are both old enough to be her father.

I have often wondered about the sincerity of Amy’s conversion to conservatism. One senses at a visceral level that it’s motivated at least in part by a thirst for fame (not that there is anything wrong with that). This sense is bolstered by her position on abortion. Oppostion to abortion and gay marriage have become bedrock of the Republican party. In fact, there is very little about the GOP these days that is conservative with the exception of these few pet social issues.
Ah, well. Since we’re talking about attractive black female news talking heads, I’ll mention that, though Amy Holmes is without question an attractive woman, she’s not my type. Let’s talk about Harris Faulkner of Fox new, or that luscious Medill grad Sharon Reed of the infamous “Body of Art.” Unnngh.
Agabond, please do a post on the women of the US Olympic Women’s 4×400 relay team (and one on Sheena Johnson Tosta, too). The lusciousness of that team, huddled up on the track after their spectacular come-from-behind gold medal performance was nearly too much for Blanc2 to take.

LOL! I will do a post on Sheena Tosta.
On Fox News I like Lauren Green: she is beautiful and has a good sense of humour.
mynameismyname, if you are reading this – notice how light-skinned these women are!

Even though I don’t agree with her politics, she is a very beautiful woman.

LOL, Abagond.
That’s only two women though.
For perspective, most of the black anchors around my way (Central CT) are OBVIOUSLY black, not “ambigious” or “light skinned”. Interesting.

Cable news, from what I can bring to mind, seems to like light-skinned black women – like Soledad O’Brien 😉 – but local news seems to go for unambiguously black women – because they are tokens. You see that in ads too, those aimed at a general audience – black women who are clearly black. The same when white men go out with black women, curiously enough.
Not that I have done a study on it or anything, but that is how it seems.

Olivia: I was agreeing with you for agreeing with Kat: that Amy Holems is a very beautiful woman despite her views.

Your observation is absolutely correct, Aba. Whites will often aim for different black “looks” (or non-white looks, in general) for different aims. If they want to emphasize that someone, in this case a black woman, is black, they go for a CLEARLY black woman. If they’re aiming for a specific white audience that’s more reluctant to accept a black woman, they go for ambigious. I notice that too, in all forms of media. So, it goes to show you that “light skinned” blacks have the stigma of being seen as less black and inauthentic. Interesting.
As far as Ms. Holmes’ beauty, I think she’s attractive but nothing more. On a scale of 1-10, I’d give her a solid 7.1!

Funny how the acclaimed pro-choice babe calls Sarah Palin a pro-creationist. These womb warriors of the pro-abortion scene are a harsh bunch of ladies.

She is attractive, but she is a political idiot. She has a degree in Economics from Princeton;therefore, I am not going to say that she is completely clueless.
What I will say is that every political prediction she had on CNN in 2007 and early 2008 turned out to be wrong. I think that is why they decided to limit, if not pull, her from the CNN shows.
Again, she is a POLITICAL IDIOT.
Why no black or Latino men? Oh!! She likes Jewish wealth.

Hi Amy!
Now, on Amy. She is cunning; obviously nothing coherent can be said about politics from any woman who is really black or black in any way while remaining conscious. Amy does not need to spout coherence to get paid and invited to drinks and dinner. Liking old Jews is not a choice, sadly. Who else in this corrupt man-less nation can provide intelligent, solvent-ish conversation to an Ivy League woman without toe-ing the”oh-my-god-she’s-black!-ew!” line?

True, she can trade on her looks and maybe in her circles old Jewish men are the most interesting, but then she needs to get out more. And, by the way, black women can be both conscious and coherent about politics at the same time. I have seen it with my own eyes.
