Note: If someone is calling you names or otherwise breaking the comment policy please tell me directly.
The main thing to keep in mind:
Comments should be about the post or other comments, not about commenters!
If you do that and keep your language PG-13 then my comment policy will be of little concern to you. Imagine that I have invited you to my house for dinner.
You can get banned for:
- Repeatedly violating the comment policy
- Ignoring my warnings
- Using a sock puppet
- Threatening other commenters
- Calling for violence
Moderation: Comments get thrown to moderation if they:
- Have more than two links.
- Use a moderated word: bitch, boy, chink, cock, cracker, cunt, dick, fuck, gook, gorilla, honky, idiot, jigaboo, kaffir, motherfucker, nazi, nigga, nigger, piss, pussy, shit, skinhead, spic, tits, whiteboy, whitey and any form of these words.
If your comment is moderated it might appear in minutes or hours. Allow up to 24 hours unless the latest post says that I am away. The same goes for comments that get stuck in my spam filter.
I reserve the right to delete comments that are:
- spam
- way off topic
- thrown to moderation
- ad hominem attacks or name calling
- plagiarized
- advertising
- not in English
- obscene or linked to obscene material
- has a telephone number or an email address
Advertising means not just trying to sell something but also providing a link to your content while giving no sign of having read mine.
I do not want to punish or limit ideas. These rules do not punish ideas but certain ways of expressing them. In my experience those who express their ideas in these ways are not all that serious to begin with.
If you have questions or suggestions about my comment policy, then please comment below or contact me.
Peace.

Thank you!
How did you customize your site? Do you use FTP? If you want different themes, you have to either pay for them or download them with a FTP client.
Should have said in my limited experience, you need a FTP client to download the themes.
WordPress has a set of themes you can pick from. You can, of course, always design your own and upload it, but I have not done that (yet) and do not know how. But it is possible. This is my fifth theme, though the last one I had lasted for almost two years.
If you mean just the picture at top, that is merely a setting. There is a page where you can upload a picture through a form and then crop it to the right size.
The snow is also a setting. It will go away on January 4th.
I just wanted to wish Happy Holidays to everyone, or whatever you’re celebrating, and may 2010 bring good health, great prosperity and wealth!
Thanks Leigh same to you and yours. Happy Holidays. Here’s to a troll-free 2010. LOL
And in that spirit, let me make the last troll of 2010…
So we’re watching Hizholinesses’ midnight mass here in Brazil, Julian, and damned if they aren’t making an effort to portray Catholicism as multiracial. Who’da thunk old Adolf XVI had it in him?
But seriously man: do you think they used make up on those kids in the choir? All the white kids had perfectly rosey cheeks; all the black kids that weird glittery-silver color.
Creepy.
May you all have a wonderful, happy, and healthy New Year!
Happy New Year! (4 hours till 2010 for me)
Happy New Years!!!
Do you know how you can tell if you have won an argument?
The other person will call you names.
Unity by any means necessary!
Finally, a civilized place to converse. I am so sick of the hate found in so many places online.
Welcome Noaj !!! You’ll find “hater’s” and propagandists here, but overall, this is a great area for healthy dialogue on a multitude of topics.

Hello There Mate!
Abagond I can’t thank you enough, I’ve been googling high and low and can’t figure out how to italicise comments, until I remembered you wrote about this before. *blows online kiss*
Dear All:
At the very beginning of my comment policy I say this:
“Note: If someone is calling you names or otherwise breaking the comment policy please tell me directly.”
So if someone makes a personal remark about you and you want it deleted, email me as soon as possible. Do not wait a week or a month and then write me a long, angry email calling me all kinds of names. That is not a good scene for either one of us.
Unfortunately I get so many comments any more that I do not always get a chance to read them all all the way through.
For example, you could probably make a fair case that B.R. got banned instead of Thad simply because B.R.’s comments are shorter and more likely to be read all the way through by me.
Wait, B.R. was banned?! Where was I when all this went down? Dang.
Do not wait a week or a month and then write me a long, angry email calling me all kinds of names.
People actually do that? Email you, and call you names? I thought I was weird!
why did BR get banned?
From my point of view, it was getting to the point where I simply had to repeatedly say “I’m not fighting. Make a point.” I’m willing to take some good-natured name-calling, expecially when I realize that my opinions piss people off from time to time. I can handle that. But when someone follows me thread to thread, complaining about months-old posts and ignores repeated advice to take the complaints elsewhere (seeing as how there was a whole thread dedicated to the kind of arguments being made) and, on top of that, starts calling me evry name under the sun…
Well, the guy really needs to cool it.
so BR got the boot?
hmmm…BR is gone huh?
Personally I cannot help but apportion some blame to you Thad for BR’s removal
Wait… BR got banned?!? Why… When? What happened?
J, I know you don’t like all my comments either and Lord knows I don’t like all of yours. I TRY my best to not engage in ad hominems and I’m fully aware of the fact that what is an ad hominem is hard to define.
I think if I say someone is a fascist twist, that’s an ad hominem. If I say I think that a certain idea that’s espoused is a bunch of fascist tripe that, to me, is not an ad hominem: I’m critiquing ideas, not people.
I try to apply the same rule to my own reactions, so I don’t call for moderation when someone calls me a “racist”, even though it is an ad hominem, because discussing racism is what this blog is all about.
But I DO think it’s trolling to follow me around from topic to topic openly insulting me and refusing to back off even when I and others say “Hey, cool it”.
Neither I nor anyone else is responsible for that sort of behavior.
Oh, and btw, I’d like it to be known that I didn’t call for B.R.’s banning, nor did I ever complain to Abagond about him.
The only person I’ve called for banning, to date, is The Great White Guy, who seems to get his rocks off by publically describing his fantasies of genocide.
From what I gather, B.R. told Abagond off.
As nice as B.R seemed he couldn’t argue without resorting to name-calling. The more exasperated he became, esp at Thad, well he let it rip, lol.
On a side note..was No_Slappz banned as well???
Mira,
…Because he ignored Abagond request, whilst continue to argue with Thad. He got banned for the same reason as No_Slappz
I banned No Slappz because:
1. I warned him in an email in no uncertain terms not to tell anyone where Jasmin went to school but he did it anyway.
2. I warned him TWICE that O.J. Simpson was off topic but he talked about him anyway.
I banned B.R. because he would not lay off of the name calling. He would make a perfectly good point but then end it with calling Thad names.
In both cases neither were even TRYING to follow the comment policy.
Note that I do allow certain ad hominems: you can call someone a troll, a racist or a sock puppet, especially if you can back it up with reasons.
I believe No_Slappz (who was usually very careful not to violate the comment policy) got banned because he went way off topic in a thread; Abagond had to delete many of his comments, and it is said in the comment policy that “If I find myself deleting too many of your comments, I will ban you”. I believe that’s what happened to No_Slappz.
Oh no poor Jasmin
I hope it was taken down swiftly before anyone had time to read it, what an awful thing to do to someone!
how did no slappz know where jasmin went to school. i wouldn’t tell someone like no slappz any personal information about myself….
abagond…are you annoyed by my comments? Why don’t you ever respond to me, i’m sorry!
Hiya. how do you open this your site. It looks great and more mature!
^Wow, you really went to every post she commented on and deleted her comments? That’s dedication.
It was easier than that: I can search for comments by email address of the commenter.
LEFT because I am done with the ignorant ad hominem attacks on me and the loser stalkers on here.
You fools can say whatever you want and then you turn around and complain when somebody says something about you. Not worth my time.
“on Wed 31 Mar 2010 at 13:10:30 Thad
Or just use your real name.
It is VERY easy to find out who is who here. It took me about 15
minutes of digging to scare up an ID on a certain poster here and I am
certainly no haxxxxor.
Presonally, I think it’s better to presume that you are known rather
than think you’re hidden behind some wall of anonymity. You’re
actually safer that way and it will make you think twice before you
post truly inflamatory things that you wouldn’t want to stand by IRL.
Unless you’re REALLY protecting your I.D. (i.e. posting through
multiple proxxies and the like, with NO cognitive traces to anything
else you’ve written on the net), I would say post under your name and
leave it at that.
It’s a reminder that you are not anonymous simply because you use a handle.”
Thad knows where you go to school jasmin because he sits on his butt all day stalking people on the computer.
His sock puppet No-slappz knows. LOL
I understand this. But why did you delete your own comment about Thad not being a sock puppet of No-slappz?
PLEASE NOTE:
Erzulie Red Eyes has complained about me to WordPress and threatens to take me to court for slander because I allow people to say mean things about her.
I have deleted all her comments from this blog as she requested.
In addition I have deleted all comments that have her name in it.
Any future comment that talks about her will be deleted too.
Erzulie Red Eyes has been banned. No one is to speak of her ever again on this blog.
Whoa. Stuff always happens when I’m away.
BR, blankey and No Slappz all banned…
@Peanut:
Who’s blankey? I’m afraid I’ve never heard of that poster before.
Wait, I figured it out. Doh!
Shame about some of the bannings; but it will be nice to be able to have respectful arguments/discussions without the unnecessary hatefulness.
Btw, I’ve been coming across No_Slappz over at Field Negro’s blog. I’m not sure why he so loves hanging out in the black blogosphere, since he sure don’t love black people.
But I noticed he found a home at Guy White, which is more his style.
Here, a question!
How do you quote other commenters’ posts?
@Dahoman X:
You mean, like the quote below?
abagond gave examples above in his commenting policy.
Italics: Put at the beginning of what you want to italicize and at the end. So if you type Vogue, it will appear as Vogue.
Boldface: Put at the beginning of what you want to make bold and at the end. So if you type Jasmin it will appear as Jasmin.
* For the blockquote, simply type the word
Oh, shoot! Dahoman X, please look at the examples abagond had in his commenting policy.
Type the word blockquote and then you’ll have your quote.
I think putting ” around the markers solves this problem. Let me try
It goes in the form of:
I want to make this text different.
For italic, the tag is “i” or “em” (less the “).
For bold, the tag is “b” or “strong” (less the “).
Ok, it didn’t work. Let me try again, lol.
I want to make this text different.
(But without blanks between < and tag).
It’ not working. I give up.
But now let me try something about the links:
My website
I hope is working. This way, you don’t have to type the whole URL and you can give it a custom name you want.
Alright, let’s try:
blockquote This should appear quoted. /blockquote
er, something went wrong…
Yay! You did it! Congratulations!
Hurrah it worked!!
Thank you, Leigh and Mira!
Btw, Abagond, this blog needs smileys.

Hi everyone,
Interracial marriage and bi-racialism is an interesting topic. I am half Japanese and half of English, Irish and French. I was born only thirteen years after the ban on interracial marriages was enacted, in1980.
Unfortunately, my parents did not receive the support they needed to keep their interracial marriage strong; both from their parents and the community at large. They divorced by the time I was three years old. It was a tragic event in my personal life. My father left me to move to another city to start another interracial marriage. I felt grief about this huge loss from my childhood.
For this reason, I support the growth of interracial marriages by families and communities. Sometimes I think if my parents had received the support they needed from those around them, their marriage might have survived. I’m glad that interracial marriages are on the rise. I hope that one day, every marriage will either be an interracial marriage or originate from an interracial union.
Lastly, THANK YOU to the author or creator of this Blog. I think that this blog will help spread the message that biracial people, myself included, are capable, competent, intelligent and successful people. They deserve recognition and support.
How to make
strikethroughfont: HTML tab for it is STRIKE, or S. (I believe both work).Let me try: you should put <strike> at the beginning, and </strike> at the end. Or <s> at the beginning and </s> at the end.
Examples: blablahblah
Correction: S does not work, only STRIKE.
So you have to put <strike> at the beginning and </strike> at the end.
(Real, working) example:
blahblahblahOh, and if you want < and > to appear and not to be turned into HTML code, you must type their codes:
< is & l t ;
and > is & g t ;
(less the space between characters).
thanks Mira; i’ve always wanted to know how to do the strike.

Hi Abagond– great blog! I found it sort of by accident, while searching for a similar one I’ve visited before, and I came upon a topic from kind of a while back on the issue of relationships between black women and white men. I saw that you posted some pix of particularly beautiful black female celebrities, whom you described as having “cutesie” faces, and you suggested white men would be interested in black women that looked this way, but would not be interested in women who looked another way– and you posted some more pix of women in whom I couldn’t see much difference apart from fewer of them smiling, I think.
I don’t know what other white guys are into– you’re surely gonna have a better handle on that than I will, BUT, for whatever it’s worth, I didn’t see any women on your second list who were any kind of turn off to me. Now, it’s true, I’m almost forty, and am a happily married dude, so maybe a person at my point in life isn’t a good proxy for these questions– I mean, if I were ever single again, personality would matter a lot more than it did when I was twenty, it would matter more than it did when I was thirty, for that matter, and when I was thirty, it mattered a lot.
And by the way, I got your point (this was a while back so maybe you won’t remember these details) about the distinction between a mere sexual attraction and attraction upon which real friendships can be built, and on that note, I might be a guy you were sort of questioning– but I like a strong woman (and I mention that because in it’s my experience that though there are a lot of exceptions, black Americans tend to be what I’d call the strongest Americans in a “mental” sense– a strong presence, a steady eye contact, not apt to show a lot of fear), and not because I’m some soft and velvety dude but because strength is the life force and that’s an attractive, trustworthy thing. I wouldn’t want a woman that overpowered me, but in the sense I mean it it could apply to a woman of any race.
One thing that’s different about me compared to what I’ve noticed in some of the very street smart, urban black communities is that the men and the women adhere pretty closely to traditional gender roles (this tends to be true in the working class of the white and Latino communities, too) and this might be an area where myself and a black woman from that background who hit it off early on might find some compatibility issues: not that I’m at all uncomfortable with being masculine and playing most of those roles, but for the most part, with myself and the women I’ve been close to over the years, the roles have been more an act than a real way of life. Not totally, of course– I mean, I open doors for my wife, I usually drive the car when we’re together, and when there’s a situation that looks like it could be threatening of course I naturally step up to investigate it and if need be, deal with it– but beyond stuff like that, I don’t consider the whole “man” thing to be a big part of my identity. For example, I can’t fix anything or use any tool more complicated than a hammer, and when a machine breaks on me, I look at it and have no idea where to begin. My wife scolds me for this because she’s the sort who will usually try to see if she can figure it out, and over the years, she’s picked up a certain set of skills with stuff like that.
Also, in a general sense, I’m better with our children than she is. Childrearing is such a complicated endeavor I mean this only in a general sense but overall, I’m better, and this has been true pretty much since the kids were just out of infancy.
She owns and runs her own business; I’d never want to do that– I used to teach high school and now I write professionally, these are things she’d never do. She has an incredible to keep going forward when things go against her– she does most of the selling of her products and she undergoes so much rejection in order to make the sales she makes I don’t know how she does it– whereas rejections and setbacks hit me pretty hard– I also get back up, but sometimes it may take me an hour or even a day or two.
My overall point being I’m not sure a woman who had been brought up to expect men and women to follow tradition very closely might find me unreliable in some situations. I don’t know.. it’s not a huge flaw in my character and anyway I’m also funny and smart and usually make friends with people easily.
And finally, how is all this relevant to that discussion you were having on your blog– maybe I’m wrong, but I think there are probably a fair number of white guys more or less like me as I’ve described myself. I mention it because when we deal with the black white thing in America, there’s a strong tendency for us to have difficulty, especially in the beginning, to not be affected by stereotype and past experience, even if we have a fair amount of experience mingling among each other’s cultures. I mean, first you’ve got all the nervous emotion connected to the beginning of a man/woman connection– does he like me does she like me, did I say that in a cool way, am I looking like a dork– and then you’ve got the complications of what we may mutually expect and believe to be true about people of the other race and culture. In a worst case scenario, we may act on the basis of these old wounds and begin unconsciously creating or imagining we’re seeing the negative things we dislike or are afraid of in each other.
BUT, I am also quite optimistic that all these things are things people can deal with and get past if they have goodwill and if they like and care for the other person.
I hope I’m right about what I assume and I hope this might throw out a little bit about someone from the whole white community– I keep reading that black women and white men are increasingly finding companionship and love with one another and to me, that’s got to be a good thing– not that I want to black women to leave their own communities but I think love is a great thing and not easy to find, and if two people find it with each other now, when society is more open to accepting such relationships, and when the people themselves are more open to allowing themselves to go forward with them, that’s gotta be a good thing.
Sorry for the length
Abagond:
Regarding the “Brazilian Women” blog – in pure numbers – you might be correct (although it is difficult to quantify because virtually all of South America has significantly mixed ancestry – and those that live there do not carry labels, like we do in the US).
However, as a percentage of population, the Dominican Republic/Haiti has far more people of African ancestry – probably followed second by what used to be Gran Colombia (Panama, Colombia, Venezuela and parts of several other countries).
Contrary to popular myth, the slave trade was not centered in the United States. The main ports of entry, for the vast majority of slaves, were in Cartagena and what is now Puerto Tejada – and second, in various ports throughout the Caribbean islands of Cuba and Haiti/Dominican Republic. This created population centers of Africans – in the southern portion of the Western Hemisphere – none of which migrated back when Liberia was founded. They remain in these areas, today, and (in certain areas) comprise almost 100% of the population.
Gary
Sorry, but I have to tell you the truth. Black people in America do not like their race. They are always looking at people to see if they have black blood or if they are mixed. It is insanity. I have done a lot of traveling and the black people from other countries are normal, they do not care if you are mixed or are 1/4 pr 1/8 black, they just accept you for who you are. The black people in America are mean spirited and all they do is talk about the white man this, the white man that etc. White people hardly ever talk about black people. They are just not interested in black people. The only thing we are truly concerned about is why are black women having so many children, with different Fathers. I think that black people (not all) are stupid, their command of the english language is terrible, they are intellectually inferior to other black people around the world. The reason why White men do not marry Black women is because White women are prettier and more feminine and not as coarse as black women.
Grow up, white people are bored with black people.
“Sorry, but I have to tell you the truth. Black people in America do not like their race. They are always looking at people to see if they have black blood or if they are mixed. It is insanity.”
And do you know how this self-consciousness classification of Black people emerged? Y’know… all the mulatto, quadroon, octoroon nonsense? I’ll give you a guess who started the problems not too long ago…
White people hardly ever talk about black people.”
Do you find it vexing that a 12% minority population talks more about the 70% dominant majority population than the other way around? Or are you to bored to actually THINK?
I think that black people (not all) are stupid, their command of the english language is terrible, they are intellectually inferior to other black people around the world.”
Let me ask you a question… do you think that White Americans, in general, have a good command of the english language? I mean, if you walk around the streets of America, is the Queen’s english being spoken, for the most part? Or is the language filled with jargon, shortcuts, dialects, and neologisms?
Why is it somehow different to you when these things come from a Black person? Do you really think that most Black people speak jive? Do you think that ebonics is an actual language and that most Black people can’t speak passible english without employing it? Where are you getting your understanding of Black culture from, 1970s Black exploitation movies?
“The reason why White men do not marry Black women is because White women are prettier and more feminine and not as coarse as black women.”
So “prettiness” and “femininity” are just things that are set in stone for all time? Tastes and perceptions about these things don’t change and fluctuate? And Stereotypes about how THE MAJORITY of certain people act and look has nothing to do with it.
Do you realize how stupid you sound?
@Agabond
Just wanted to clarify that I’ve never used gravatar before and have been toying with it a little in the last few days. I think I’m happy with my username -which is and always was my real name- and my avatar pic, which is now in sync with my facebook profile. So I didn’t want to confuse anybody, I just needed to make up my mind. Takes time sometimes.
Okay.
And by the way, that avatar pic is a self portrait, me being an illustrator after all.
It should have a great resemblance, at least that’s what a guy I met who I had known previously on-line only.
Great site you’ve got, but I have to admit I was accustomed to sites where discussions were more like virtual cage fights at times. Glad that I stumbled on the rules finally…
Done.

LOL, you’re must be very obviously mixed if Blacks “always looking at people to see if they have black blood” is even a concern of yours. “White people hardly ever” concern themselves with such things. Nice try, though….
“And do you know how this self-consciousness classification of Black people emerged? Y’know… all the mulatto, quadroon, octoroon nonsense? I’ll give you a guess who started the problems not too long ago…”
Actually, many of the people who were classified under those labels were not “black” in any meaningful sense. Referring to these people as “black” is just a way to wipe them out of history because when people hear “black”, they tend to think of someone of pretty dark compexion. In fact, a better color description in many cases would be “olive”, “tan”, or just plain “white.” Sally Hemings for example is often referred to as “black”, but given that 3 of her 4 grandparents were white, she probably looked something like Mariah Carey. Mixed Americans in the 1800s often embraced those labels as accurate descriptions of their origins and many are again adopting them (despite sounding somewhat archaic) or similar terms.
“OL, you’re must be very obviously mixed if Blacks “always looking at people to see if they have black blood” is even a concern of yours. “White people hardly ever” concern themselves with such things. Nice try, though….”
Oh, that’s not just a concern of mixed people. I recently read comments by an unmixed Sicilian American woman on a mixed website complaining about black militants constantly questioning her on her origins because they suspect her of being mixed.
This article is very insightful, analytical, precise and illuminating. This is not only about “hiting the nail on the head”, It is also about disecting stereotypical and racist views that have so long existed in America.
I couldn’t agree more with this article. It is very accurate and informative. Bravo, Abagond! Thumbs up!

What’s the policy concerning individual commenters clogging up commentary with scores and scores of gibberish-filled posts?
I do not delete comments because they lack logic. My policy is to delete comments that are off topic, use moderated words or call people names, though I apply that policy much more strictly to trolls or unknown commenters than to others. Both Herneith and Dave Lister, for example, are given quite a bit of latitude, though I do delete some of their comments.
One of the holes in this policy is that it is completely possible to say something that is arguably on topic while talking in a civil yet free-associative way. Like Mik, Gorbachev and Thordaddy. For them I apply the on-topic policy more strictly than for others.
you apply it strictly to me, you play favorites, but that’s okay.
Abagond, thanks for your response.

Ah, I got thrown into moderation for quoting what someone else said? Her post was published, complete with the questionable word.

some say fortune favours the bold
I had comments deleted in the open thread for saying thank you for those that have shared their stories in the “What was your first experience with white racism.” thread – which to my understanding was supposed to be free from comment deletion.
Whites that are allies of social justice get the same or worse treatment as the whites that are posting daily anti-Black positions.
Its one thing to say this is a blog for Blacks and it is another to behave in equal measures in contempt of whites regardless of their contributions/positions.
@ JT
Be glad that is all I did.
I said I did not want whites commenting on that thread. Doing it on the Open Thread instead is an undehanded move. If you had been on the blacklist like Bliff you would have been banned.
I know you meant well but allowing your comment would have undermined the ban. Bliff would still be here.
I drew the line at white because it followed from the title: “What was your first experience of white racism?”
Whites do not directly experience white racism unless they have been racialized somehow, like Muslims or the mother in “The Color of Water”. But in that case they have been kicked out of the white club and are no longer socially white.
Abagond
I’ve noticed a couple of readers have been banned for comments they’ve made concerning a certain restricted thread. I hopped over to the restricted thread to see what the fuss was about and noticed I was mentioned by name. I personally find it easy not to comment either on or about that thread because I haven’t bothered to read past the intro.
But it looks like some who aren’t restricted are referencing that thread on others. In other words, some would appear to be violating the spirit of that thread’s restriction. By making comments concerning that thread on other threads, they are putting those portions in the public doman, so to speak.
So my question is… Will I now be sanctioned for responding to comments that I read on non restricted threads if it pertains to topics mentioned on the restricted thread even though I’m not even reading it?
@ Duck
Please be specific. Which comments are referencing that thread?
Abagond “Please be specific. Which comments are referencing that thread?”
It would be difficult for me to know for sure which stories correspond to the restricted thread because I haven’t read it. But the context in the open thread suggests several have been. It would also be difficult for me to list all the discussions that have been carried over from the restricted thread because some appear to have been deleted.
My point is that if someone were to mention issues discussed on the restricted thread and it became a topic of discussion in the open thread then some would be sanctioned while others would not even though everyone violated the spirit of the restricted thread. Indeed, a number of readers appear to be willfully violating the spirit of the restricted thread by mentioning it in the open thread.
In other words, some are not using the restricted thread as a “safe space” but as a tool to harass and bully others. Some have even bragged about using it as a “trap”. If you’re going to restrict the thread then there should be sanctions for anyone violating that restriction. Therefore, if some people are restricted from commenting on that thread then everyone should be restricted from commenting about that thread on other threads.
Anyway, many of these comments mention the restricted thread. And some do so in a flippant and harassing fashion.

@ Abagond,
I understand that there is a rule and system in place for moderating comments and that you are the blog owner.
My belief is that i don’t think that this is the supreme court of the USA and the rules do not need to be engraved in stone and strictly applied equally (necessarily). If ANY poster proves to be obnoxious to you (which ironically has recently been me) or embrace opinions towards Black oppression, that individual case should be measured (and possibly removed) based on what they are motivated to accomplish at a nearly all-Black board. Why aren’t they at StormFront having fun with the other white patriots and why do they deserve equal protection as those that fight vehemently for Black issues (even if they are not Black).
That’s all i’m saying.
If people don’t like the way Abagond runs his blog, they are always welcome to leave. Abagond is courteous and displays a saint like patience when dealing with some of these bigots. Bigots who invade Black blogs with disparaging and hateful remarks and then whine because these remarks aren’t “protected”.
No one is forcing you to come here. Perhaps Ni*germania, Chimpout or Stormfront would make you feel more at home. It’s HIS house and he can do what he pleases.
I LOVE that animated picture at top by the way!! LOL It’s very apropos.
When is duck going to realize this blog is not for duck? Hmmmm….
@ darqbeauty,
I respect and hear what abagond has to say as well as the other respectful posters here. This thread is the comment policy thread. I am staying on topic and being respectful. Im not sure if your comment was directed to me but i am listening to abagond and doing my best to follow the rules.
@ JT it wasn’t directed at you.
@ darqbeauty,
Sweet. I am guess Ive gotten worked up of late. Time to do some zen meditation to take me down. School is done so it is time to breath…
anyway thank you!
Yes, this blog can be mentally exhausting. I have yet to post on the Racist Experiences thread because just reading it takes so much out of me. I think I will post my experiences then take a break as well.
I have been taught that from an early age from numerous Black women that I have lived with (a few were staff at a group home that I lived at and one was my step mom) that I am the recipient of white privilege. So i know that accordingly i nor any other white will ever understand nor appreciate the full scope of racism.
Nonetheless, it doesnt mean that we can’t oppose it in action when we see it. Which means we have to listen to Blacks tell their stories to learn what racism means to them and each Black has a different experience of it with different people so it means something different to them.
This is why i urge Doug1111 and anyone else to listen first ask questions later. Instead of being arrogant enough to think you know what you are talking about!
But that is my opinion and i hold it. I learned a lot from those Black women and men in my life so yes I respect them and revere them and thank them (and got an earful at times too LOL) .
=)
JT, you have been making lots of good commentaries on here. I just think, if Abagond had to erase one of your comments , to be consistant with holding Bliff up to standards so he could be banned, its ok for you to take one for the team…I think that is what it is kind of about, at least how you should take it..
I wasn’t aware abagond put darq and cleo in charge of comment policy. Next time I have a question I’ll be sure to ask you two first.
Don’t like what’s being said, or enforced, you’re welcome to leave the blog. This is Abagond’s blog. He can pick and choose at his discretion. Your whining doesn’t change that. If I didn’t like the way a blog was run, I would leave. I certainly don’t have a sense of entitlement to tell the blog owner what to do. Unlike some people
Duck, if i were in charge, you would be banned so be happy with Abagond.
Do you have a problem with me?
@ JT
B.R. and Randy have the right attitude about the whole thing.
If I banned based on obnoxiousness you would be gone. I did not like, not one bit, your commenting on the FIrst Experience thread on another thread. That was the same slick move Bliff pulled. The only thing that saved you was that you were not on the blacklist.
If I knew then what I know now, I would have taken Doug and Randy off the list and put YOU on it. Doug and Randy disagree with me at the ideological level but at least they respect my wishes and do not give me a hard time about my rules. Unlike you,
You may think that unlike Doug and Randy that you are well-meaning and not racist. But they ALSO think they are well-meaning and not racist. So do most white people. So if I allowed you and not them it would be seen as rank favouritism and it would be much harder to preserve the thread as a safe space. It is hard enough as it is.
@ Duck
Thank you for the list. I will review it.
@ Duck
I deleted the first three as grey cases but the rest were fine – either because they were by people of colour or they were by whites talking about bannings or the idea of the thread and its comment policy.
So, to answer your question, so long as you say nothing about the comments on that thread you are fine. If you act as if you never read that thread you should be fine. What Bliff and JT did crossed the line since they were responding to what they had read there.
Abagond
I appreciate the consideration. I was just just looking for some clarity on what the rules were.
No Duck, not a problem with you; however, I hate ignorance.
Sniff, sniff. There’s a faint aroma of “personal attacks” in the air. Perhaps it’s time for someone to be banned?

In the post alluded to above, Inconvenient Truth didn’t seem to be responding to any particular point or comment, but merely resulted to insulting one commenter’s intelligence, then suggested another was timid and lazy. And for what reason? It certainly didn’t further the discussion, nor was it to debate a point that either of the named commenters made.
Yes, there’s definitely a stench in the air. Please, Abagond, do your thing. It’s time.
@ Grin
Unfortunately I have done little to shield Inconvenient from abuse so I cannot ban him for doing the same.

Then there was the bad weather. It would come in one day when the fall was over.
Aba, are there some html commands that don’t work on your site? I tried to use teletype but it won’t work.
It just supports simple ones.
