And this probably was by someone before, but I 'm going to say it again.

-The ancient egyptians made no racial distinctions between themselves and Nubians but they acknowledged and depicted distinct differences between themselves and Libyans, Asiatics, Persians Greeks and Romans.
,
- Stability was always restored by "Black leadership" from the south (Upper KMT (Egypt) and Nubia) when numerous invasion and periods of instability hit Egypt.

-Most of what we know about Egypt and "black Africa" has been written by whites after centuries of discoveries, conquests and colonization. The general public is unaware the most of the names of Egyptian people, places and things are NON-AFRICAN. Egypt is a Greek, as are pyramid, Hieroglyphics (medu netcher), and Sphinx (Her-em-Akhet), Pharoh is a word of Asiatic origin. Modern Egyptian cities and towns have Arabic names as a result of the Arab conquest of Egypt in 640 AD.

-Kemet (Egypt) is indigenous , a word that translated FROM medu netcher (hieroglyphics) which literally means, "the city town or country of the blacks" and NOT the "black soil" as traditional Egyptologists maintian.

In another good book The Destruction of Black Civilzation By Chancellor Williams, said the ealiest names Africans used for themselves were Wo'se, Nowe, and Thebens.

I could go on and on... but the fact of the matter is this country was changed so many times by so many different invaders its quite obvious you non believers will NEVER believe that this was a BLACK country FIRST. And This black country is/was the first civilization who civilized ALL NATION. That's why everyone wants to claim this. Historians, arceologist, Egyptologist, Scientist...they know the truth but will tamper with the truth and LIE.

White people especially will believe aliens really did come down from somewhere and say they were the ones who build the pyramids quicker then they will say blacks did it. Others may have help but blacks were the TRUE leaders. Period.

Well, when reading Diop one has to remember his agenda, which he clearly states: he is trying to fix the "white history" by offering us the alternative version of it. Of course we can point where we disagree with his theories etc. but we must always remember that Diop is all the time open about his political agenda, unlike so many western historians in the past. So even if I have some problems with Diops claims and disagree with him in many points, I think his "black history" is good to remind us that history is not clear cut thing and that it is always written trough some kind of political world view.

As for the racist world view, I think it was the romans who were the first real racist civilization. They were also the first to glorify the greeks and dump the Egypt to the lower strata. They recognized Egypt as an older civilization (forst to use writing etc) but looked it always with suspicion, so much so that they called its religions as supertition. That is why Cleopatras involvement with Caesar and Anthony were such scandals back home in Rome, they called Cleopatra as witch and meant it. Romans were the first to claim the title of master race and practise it in reality.

It was their right to wipe out whole nations, make them slaves, destroy them totally, litterally to the ground so that no stone stands on top of another (as in Dacia where they not only destroyed everything matrial but the whole people, language and culture). When Trajanus held his 107 days "games" in Rome, few tens of thousands of foreign prisoners were slaughtered in the arena for the amusement of the romans. Julius Caesar bragged that he had wiped out third of the gauls, perhaps a million, mostly women and children and he was proud of it and the Rome thoughed it as a great achievement. Worthy of a celebrations indeed.

And in 1800's Rome was seen as a prototype of the western power (which is was not, it was mediterannean) and so its racist world view fitted to bill.

I think Greeks defined themselves via culture and language. Non-greek speaking were inferior. I don't think Greek thought of them as white.
This is the difficulty I have with the telling of history.
It's in present day that we are taught what White is, what Black is. Black and White as we mean it today, is not how the ancient Egyptians or Greeks saw it, knew it, defined anything or necessarily self-identified.

Diop says that "...the Black man must become able to restore the continuity of his national historic past, to draw from it the moral advantage needed to reconquer his place in the modern world..."

Diop is not just describing events that have unfolded in the past. The story of these events, up until that point, has been told by explorer-colonizers-scholars who wanted to create and promote their own story at the expense of (and to exclude) Black Africans. They had their agenda, whether they knew it or not.

Even though the ancients Greeks would not have thought of themselves as physically 'white', in our times they can be (although not as white as other white). it depends on who is doing the looking. And the naming.

Still, I remember growing up in England that the Greeks Cypriots I knew were at pains - at pains - to be called "whites"!

The English designated them as "foreign-looking", or "swarthy", a description many Greek Cypriots disliked. To compensate for this, many would show overt anti-Black racism to darker immigrants, which I witnessed with my own eyes.
Also, I noticed that it was a trend among Greek Cypriot men to seek out the whitest skinned, and blondest woman they could to marry to show the whiter and more English world that they were white Englishmen, too. That's just an observation, but it does make me think that the way Diop uses 'white' has a modern 'race' meaning as seen through the white racist lens.

I was taught that the Greeks founded Western civilization and that, compared to most people in most places in most of history, they were amazingly gifted, that the only thing comparable is, guess what, the West since 1500. Carl Sagan, for example, pushed that line in "Cosmos", if I remember correctly, or something close to it.

While no one flat-out SAID the Ancient Greeks were white, it still came as a shock to me when I read the Greeks for myself and found out that they did not think of themselves that way at all, that they divided the world by language, not race.

I'm not sure if it's whining.
Not all education systems linked Egyptian roots to Greek civilization.
This link wasn't made. Maybe things have changed.

Even at university level study of the Classics, the focus was on Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. To the best of my knowledge, these courses seemed to treat the history of Egypt as almost 'beginning' at the death of Alexander the Great, when Ptlomy ruled and the Roman Empire was probably at its peak.

Do schools now teach of an African origin to Western Civilization?

Nowadays I think these courses cover the whole Mediterranean world, to include Egypt. But Africa is perceived as places (and people) sub-Saharan.

Again, I se some problems here, but I will discuss them later (no time for it now). I just want to comment on this:

Why? Because the Greeks are unmistakably white.

No, they are not, and that's the point. Even if (if!) we forget about the fact race as we know it didn't exist in the ancient Greece, Greeks are not "unmistakably white"... At least if you ask Western Europeans of the 18th century, who started the whole thing about Greece being the cradle of European civilization.

Western Europeans were disgusted to see real Greek peasants and thought they don't deserve to be the the descendatns of glorious ancient Greece. So they proclaimed themselves, and not the actual Greeks, the descendants of that grat and glorious culture. They also took the liberty to steal monuments and stuff from Greece (Greeks couldn't protest; they were under Ottoman rule at the time, who didn't care about ancient Greek monuments).

Also, the part of Europe where ancient Greek culture originated- the Balkans- is today not seen as fully European by Westerners, and that's one of the reasons why Greece is never considered a Balkan country (despite being located at the Balkans) (in short, westerners see ancient Greece as their own, and don't want to "other" it by admitting it's on the Balkans, or that its inhabitants are not quite... "Aryan" in phenotype).

So, in short, Greeks being whites is just another construct.
