I saw this on the Mulatto Diaries. It is from an article about an adoption agency in Boston:
For a flat fee, the prospective parent(s) can adopt a healthy, Caucasian infant within one to two years. For those willing to accept biracial or at risk children that wait time can be as little as one year. Betsy notes that the agency is particularly proud of its Lindelli Fund, which provides subsidies to any parent wishing to adopt hard-to-place children.
Again, is “biracial” synomous with black/white? I’m confused.
Why are people so obsessed with children of black/white unions? They’re as old as slavery and most black Americans are products of miscengation some way or another. I don’t get it.

Even to this day American pretend that pre-1965 miscegenation didn’t exist. They talk about it as such a recent development in history. Some even claim it’s a mark of racial progress.
Some of us know better, for it’s been with us since humanity began. Whole continents were filled with mixed people during the period of exploration and colonialism in the New World. We all know that during slavery and segregation that Black women were taken advantaged of and were raped. Antimiscegenation laws and the lack of enforcement of rape laws encouraged privileged White men to exploit Black women at will. One drop rule was developed in the late 19th century to prevent mixed offspring of Black women and White men from equal opportunity to claim inheritance from their fathers who are not under obligation to support their flesh and blood.
It’s not until the Loving decision, which overturned laws against interracial marriages in many states, that interracial relationships are more or less accepted by the mainstream.
White women were having babies by Black men since the 60s. Many demanded a multiracial category so their children won’t be stigmatized by society as being solely Black. Mainstream media still talks about interracial relationships as being progressive, covering up the sordid past and ignoring the pre-1960 miscegenation.
IRs are neither signs of progress nor antiracism. Racists such as Strom Thurmond and slaveholders such as Thomas Jefferson were involved in IRs while torturing Black men who have done the same thing.
I hope I’m not offending anyone with my honest view of miscegenation.

In America the mixing of the races – and passing – has been going on constantly for the past 400 years. That can be proved by looking at the DNA of white people.
I was wondering why the “biracial” children were not just called “black”. It becomes clear if you break down adoption fees by race (most of the biracial children in this example are half black, half white):
white: $38K, $30.5K+, $27K, $28.5K, $28.5K, $28.5K, $30.5K
biracial: $33K, $20.5K, $28.5K, $25K
black: $16K, $16K+, $16K+, $18K, $20K, $20K, $15K+, $16K+, $16K, $16K, $16K, $16K

I really hope something got misinterpreted somewhere, or that I’ve misunderstood something, because this sounds awful.

Yes, that’s what they mean. The race-ratios of people adopting and children waiting to be adopted don’t match up.
I’m biracial but I consider myself black. I have non-biracial black relatives who are almost as white-looking than I am. It’s always confused me. I think that’s one of the main reasons I refuse to use the “biracial” label. It’s meaningless; just a question of how recent the white blood entered your bloodstream, not about the amount or the method.
@Black&German; I’ve never heard someone put it like that before and I totally agree.

You did sum it up well. The race labeling business can be anywhere from sinister (as in motives) to just plain meaningless as you say. Even two siblings with the same black/white parents can be very different from each other in skin colour.

I’ve read some old posts, but not all of them, and not all the comments for them. So there’s probably been a lot of dialogue already that I missed.
This is insulting, black and white children are just that, biracial. Refer to them as that! It is obscene that an adopting agency would correlate and degrade biracial children to those who have mental illnesses. The agency needs to be evaluated immediately, they should not be handling children.
