Buffie Carruth (1977- ), better known as Buffie the Body, is an American video vixen. She is a sort of black Pamela Anderson but instead of having huge breasts she has a huge behind – with the word “Tasty” written on it.
She has an amazing body. Her measurements are 36C-26-44 (91-66-112 cm). She says, “There are a lot of jeans that they just don’t make in my size.” But her face is only somewhat pretty at best, certainly not beautiful.
She says her body is all natural, a gift from God. Unlike Kim Kardashian or Angel Lola Luv, you do not see strange pictures of her with thin legs that seem out of place with the rest of her body. She has the thick legs you would expect in a woman like her.
But as natural as her body might be, much of what you see in pictures is airbrushed:
- She says King doctored her figure on its cover.
- The word “Tasty” is missing from some pictures – a sure sign of airbrushing.
- Her skin often has that strange golden colour that black women get when they are heavily airbrushed.
At least until 2007 she did not exercise regularly and seemed to live largely on Kool-Aid and Southern fried pork chops.
Her calendars have sold as far away as Switzerland and China, but her body does not appeal to all men. Ben Westhoff of the Village Voice for one, who met her once to do a story: “She’s sweet. But I have to come clean. The fact is, her big ass does nothing for me. Perhaps, as a white guy, I’m just not hard-wired to understand.”
She grew up in Athens, Georgia, an hour and a half east of Atlanta. The third of seven children, her father left when she was young. She became a stripper.
In 2004 a friend created a Yahoo! Group about her and put up some pictures. It was an instant hit. In 2005 she was an even bigger hit when she appeared in F.E.D.S. magazine.
Soon she was in music videos, but, as it turns out, she has only been in a few:
- Tony Yayo and 50 Cent: “So Seductive” (2005)
- Juelz Santana: “Oh Yes (Mr Postman)” (2005)
- DJ KaySlay, Papoose, Bun B, Shaq: “You Can’t Stop The Reign” (2006)
- Gucci Mane: “Go Head” (2006)
She says videos do not pay much. She sees them only as a stepping stone.
Her pictures in magazines like King, Sweets, Smooth, Black Men and XXL is what made her name. There are even special issues that feature only her.
She sells DVDs and calendars on her website and hosts parties. She does over a hundred parties a year, going from city to city.
In the film “ATL” she played Big Booty Judy.
She drives a Mercedes CLS 550.
These days she seems prouder of her credit rating than her body measurements. She is trying to turn herself into a business empire.

Buffie the Body has a slammin’ body. I just hope that she uses her talent wisely though.

What’s ugly about her face? Judging from this picture she’s absolutely gorgeous.
Large almond eyes, high cheekbones, pretty smile…What makes her less than pretty in the face?
Fri 25 Jan 2008 at 18:44:33
She is pretty in the picture, but it took some doing to find it. In most pictures she is either not all that pretty or too airbrushed to be believed. Merely my opinion, of course.
Tue 29 Jan 2008 at 15:34:23
…What makes her less than pretty in the face?
In a word, she’s dark. Quite a lot of black people undervalue the beauty of dark complexioned sistas. Personally though, I’d leap over a dozen Beyoncés to get to Buffie. Her body represents my feminine beauty ideal.
As a black man, I am hard-wired to understand the thickness, very hard.
Wed 30 Jan 2008 at 17:39:44
I know what you mean.
Sun 15 Jun 2008 at 23:06:41
I agree with Holden,
There’s nothing ugly about her. And these video chicks don’t represent average American black male taste. They represent what the industry likes, what they think will sell. What they THINK black men like and most brothers are not monolith, so everyone’s not going to respond the same way to the same type of women.
The fact that so many of the well-known black hip hop/swimsuit models tend to look OBVIOUSLY black, in terms of complexion and hair and features, should tell you something.

Thu 9 Oct 2008 at 11:50:33
I’ve heard a lot of people say she is ugly.
Don’t really see that from this picture. I think she is beautiful. Then there’s others who think she way too thick. Fair enough. That’s a very subjective statement. If you don’t like thick you might not like her.
I’m African and this body type really isn’t that rare over here. And growing up I have come to appreciate it.
So no dis to my slim n sexy sisters, but I love how this woman looks!
Mon 13 Oct 2008 at 03:33:29
i agree with SFlare, Buffie is beautiful and the only reason why people are constantly saying she’s ugly is beacause of her skin tone and that gets on my nerves. if it were CoCo Ice T’s wife up for debating no body would have one thing wrong to say about her period
Mon 13 Oct 2008 at 04:40:46
Beauty is all in the eye of the beholder.
I don’t think that the woman is ugly but she ain’t that pretty – to me. She’s famous because of her body, not her face.
Actually, Coco gets trashed all the time by many black folks, on the internet at least. Some of that has to do with the fact that she is white …and married to a famous black man.
Thu 13 Nov 2008 at 06:56:35
buffy isn’t the best looking girl but just because she’s dark skin doesn’t that dark skin women are ugly because we’re not. i think it’s a shame that people look at her for being dark and think that being dark is ugly and to me it’s not. bria myles is a tad bit darker than her but she has a pretty face with the body to go with it. any girl can be ugly whether she’s light or dark. and i agree with my name is my name, coco get talked about so much because she got implants and dating a black man.
Fri 28 Nov 2008 at 15:04:19
I’m sorry her body is not all that. I mean she looks like she has mom fat from just having a baby. Her body is weird as its two different sizes on top and bottom. who said she was ugly cause she is dark? she ugly cuz her face is ugly. She not a natural beauty….she wears weave….and they airbrush her fat body. I’m sorry but I never understood this disgusting fettish for enourmous asses. Most women are not made to look like that and the fact the some men want it is a sick fantasy for what women should look like.
Mon 5 Jan 2009 at 00:18:43
I think the woman is beautiful. Skin color has nothing to do with anything. Im a dark skinned woman with a fat ass and there is nothing I can do about it. God made me this way as he did Buffie and we embrace it. Shes a beauty because, shes confident with what she has. YOU GO GIRL!
Mon 5 Jan 2009 at 09:50:55
Reasonable people can disagree about her beauty. I called her pretty but not beautiful, but it had nothing to do with her skin colour and certainly not her figure. It was her face, which for me in most cases means the eyes.
Mon 2 Feb 2009 at 13:02:04
OK, i can see what you’re all saying. Some people have a relatively universal beauty. Some other’s are only beautiful to a few. So maybe Buffie is the latter. Lots of people aren’t into her face or body, which is fine.
Maybe I’m just wierd, but if she was a woman of character, and looked exactly the same, I’d love 2 wife that. But that’s just the opinion of some wierd African guy: )
Mon 2 Feb 2009 at 23:17:16
Joe, you’re a rarity. You shouldn’t insult thick women behinds by calling them disgusting, but some guys do have a fetish. Instead of looking at the whole woman (whether she is pencil thin or heavier) a lot of me reduce women to a butt size (or in some cases breast size). And they try to strip other women of their feminity by saying to be a “real” woman or the ideal, you must have a larger behind. Not right.
Mon 2 Feb 2009 at 23:42:58
Her butt: it turns on some men, like me and SFlare, it turns off others, like Joe, and for yet others it does nothing for them. So I see nothing wrong with Joe’s comment, even though I do not agree with it.
Mon 2 Feb 2009 at 23:52:35
No, I wasn’t putting Joe down at all. And to be honest, it’s kinda refreshing to see a guy with his own mind and who has a different perspective on the female form. I just think it could have been a little kinder. But that’s the kind of tone some men use to put down thinner women.
Thu 12 Feb 2009 at 00:18:59
I dont know but in this picture she is bomb!
Wed 4 Mar 2009 at 00:44:32
Everything these women do and stand for is absolutely degrading to black girls and women. They may argue and stress that they aren’t loose, they have respect for themselves..Um no, you don’t have respect for yourself your body is supposed to be your temple your privacy and you’re exposing it as a living. That’s technically prostitution because you’re selling your body for money. You are also making yourself the core/centre/reason for the sin of man. (Masturbation, lust of the eye, lust of the flesh-temptation- devalueing your “natural, gift from God”, Buffy ) If it doesn’t phase you then boy, let me know I’ll pray for you (seriously). Earn an honest pure living like most of the world don’t resort to literally objectifying your body because it’s not just affecting you-It’s never to late to change. Even I know this at age 15!! Come on ladies it’s you that’s supposed to be paving the way for us (young black ladies) and if that’s what you’re paving for me then I’m taking a next route, straight!! I’ve got goals to achieve and posing for King magazine half naked or being in a number of music videos as a “hip-hop honey” is not one of them, I’ll tell you that for free.
Wed 4 Mar 2009 at 10:22:26
don’t worry, i agree with what you’re saying but then again that’s her choice and i’m not trying to be no buffie the body. there are many other black women that don’t take off their clothes and to tell you the truth, she’s not degrading to me. i know a lot of people may not agree with that but why should i get offended when i could care less about someone? i don’t know anything about her and yet she’s degrading herself? people need to stop putting these celebrities, rappers, models as role models when it should be you’re parents. at the end of day she’s gonna do what she wants and there are men that will look at her as a sexual feeling because of how she’s shaped. times i don’t agree with it but everyone makes choices and we’re not going to agree with them. i hope that she does something else other than just be famous of having a big ass. the only person that can judge her is god not no one else.
Wed 4 Mar 2009 at 17:26:52
Don’t worry, you’re 15 yet you have so much wisdom. You’re absolutely right. A lot of people, especially men try to make you think that your butt is the only thing that matters about a woman. And if you have that, then running around half naked all of the time determines your worth and value. It does not! As black women, we should continue to take the time develop other things, other than our bodies. And worry about stimulating our minds instead of men’s “you know what’s”.
Mon 20 Apr 2009 at 20:47:48
She’s so hot !!!
I love her !
A french fan
Mon 20 Apr 2009 at 21:13:10
‘She not a natural beauty….she wears weave….and they airbrush her fat body. I’m sorry but I never understood this disgusting fettish for enourmous asses.’
I agree with Joe, especially about the whole natural hair thing and enormous ass thing… she looks like an animal with a wig on AND YES I AM A BLACK WOMAN saying this! She looks scandalous and sells her stinky flesh for a living…she probably even smells…
AND There’s been rumors that she had butt implants anyway…ugh…
Mon 20 Apr 2009 at 21:46:49
babybrown,
I’m not necessarily a fan of Buffie the Body but I find it offensive that you put her down for wearing a weave or possibly having butt implants. Non-white women ALSO wear weaves and usually have more plastic surgery to enhance their “beauty” than BW and they’re still celebrated as being “natural beauties” simply because they’re WW. Given the historical ANTI-BW RACISM of American society, BW don’t need ANYONE ELSE to bash them for having non-white features (eg. fuller lips, bigger butts, etc.) or for attempting to enhace their beauty (eg, hair weaves/extensions, plastic surgery, etc.).
Tue 21 Apr 2009 at 03:03:21
laromana, if you think that a BW is ‘enhancing’ herself by mimicking anglo features like wearing unnatural looking hairweaves, bleaching her skin or changing her natural image then you must have it twisted… you must just be another sister stuck in the matrix… so sad
As Black women begin to embrace their natural selves, they will realize that they don’t need to glue or sew blond, red, blue, or whatever colored hair into their heads ‘ to look presentable’ (when in reality they look like clowns with that plastic hair)…
As we embrace our naturally full lips, noses, natural rear ends and bodies in general, we’ll realize that it doesn’t matter what other races are doing, we don’t have to ‘enhance ourselves’ by trying to look like other groups of women…
In terms of white women and black women the ones who have had multiple surgeries and look like the female version of plastic man, definitely don’t get the ‘natural beauty’ stamp from me…
As a chocolate sister with a nicely proportioned, in shape figure, with natural double d’s and a natural fro, any woman regardless of race who is corny enough to go under the knife ‘to look’ natural, look white, or look more’ethnic’ is ridiculous and they are wasting their time… they are most likely shallow and pathetic, especially if they want to sell their flesh like Buffie, the video ho!
She did it to herself, don’t persecute me for her silly choices… she wanted her ass to be the main focus, and she succeeded because she looks like an ass, go on with that hott nasty mess…
Tue 21 Apr 2009 at 06:02:53
I never noticed her weave
I like the way she looks but, yes, to the degree that it is not natural that takes something away from it – it does not seem as good. That is why I was never a huge fan of Angel Lola Luv – it not only looks fake, I know for a fact that it is fake.
Tue 21 Apr 2009 at 06:23:11
babybrown,
My point isn’t to claim that BW need to look like WW to be beautiful but that, BW shouldn’t be put down, considered ugly,or other wise PENALIZED for choosing to wear a weave, get plastic surgery, or use any other enhancement like MANY WW/NON-WW do who are accepted as being beautiful in American society.
Tue 21 Apr 2009 at 15:08:57
People are so harsh on Buffie! Personally, I think she is pretty. Between Bria and Buffy I think Buffy is prettier in the face. I have seen Bria in person and she looks better in the photos. Also, she is lighter is some of her photos than she really is.
Fact: She has beautiful smooth skin, bright eyes, nice shape and nice body.
Buffy on the other hand, I have not seen in person but she weights about twenty pounds more than Bria, she’s older (8yrs), and yes she needs to excerise!
Fact: Buffie has nice almond eyes, nice complexion, and a nice smile, nice shape but her body is in need of some exercise.
Bria mentioned that she does not excerise but if continues that way she will start to lose it like Buffie. She’s still young and she can get away with it for now!
I have seen better pictures of Buffy if you go to Deelishes web page she has photos of Buffie since their on tour together. I also think Buffie looks better than Deelishes. No offense but I think she has masculine features (I’ve seen her in person as well).
Overall, Bria looks more polished than Buffie but she is not prettier in the face.

“I agree with Joe, especially about the whole natural hair thing and enormous ass thing… she looks like an animal with a wig on AND YES I AM A BLACK WOMAN saying this! She looks scandalous and sells her stinky flesh for a living…she probably even smells”…
Babybrown, news flash! Most if not all women in the industry wears weave. I have very thick hair and when I used to relax my hair before I went natural five years ago people use to ask me was I wearing a weave. The point is, I still wear weaves if I want to sport a different hair style or look. People wear it for different reasons. I’m influenced by many but defined by none.
Regarding her looking scandalous personally, I don’t agree with anyone of those women for exploiting their bodies but who am I to judge. I do think it’s wrong to say a human being looks like an animal and accuse her of smelling if you don’t know that for a fact, it’s just so hateful and wrong. Show some class about yourself!
Tue 21 Apr 2009 at 15:57:08
Okay laromana… your talking about COMPARING White women AND Black women’s choices…
and if you read my statement closely, my argument it that I think that it is ridiculous for ANY WOMAN (Jenna Jameson, Buffie, Lil Kim – who I do like as an artist); MAN (Michael Jackson) or whatever to alter their appearance in an ‘attempt to look better’ when in reality they end up looking like clowns, a joke or in Buffies case – an ass…
She objectified her ownself… THINK about it…
don’t get mad at me because I’m not trapped in the matrix where I APPLAUD when white women with naturally thin lips get collagen shoved in their faces ‘to look attractive’ when most people walk past them and laugh because we all know their lips are fake AND it looks ridiculous…
OR the black women who is a deep chocolate color and decides to wear a PLATINUM BLONDE, EUROPEAN straight, ass length weave… that’s a joke, and I really think that in a few decades when you and I are old ladies, we’ll look back on some of these pics of ‘beauty enhancements and think’ what the f*ck were they thinking back then…
the only difference between me and you is that, I can see clearly now and am not going to link beauty choices to racial equality…especially when a naturally beautiful woman (Black or White) changes her face from an organic texture to PLASTIC…
Yes, we have the RIGHT to look like asses, but should we expect everyone to think we’re hottt when we’ve reached are ridiculous ‘beauty’ goals? Oh please…
Tue 21 Apr 2009 at 16:11:49
Sade, overall your comment bored me… your lofty comments and high and mighty judgments about me are a joke, all while defending a women who sells her flesh for money – your backing the wrong Black woman here, lol
get it together… I don’t need your newsflash, you need mine
I’m not against protective styling, most of us in the natural community know that this tool may lead to healthy hair and growth – if properly done…
the way you do things is important, for black women who suffer from self hatred and secretly want to look like a White woman, the blonde hair thing is truly ridiculous, come on, let’s get real (even though it it entertaining to ‘discuss’ this, most white, black or other women really do look ridiculous when they transition from looking natural to plastic)…
And then most women who invest in being fake, are upset when most men aren’t feeling them (but thats a different topic…)
Moroever, my statement has nothing to do with my level of class, intelligence or any other ’snappy closing statement’ you use to ATTACK ME… your ignorant statement shows that it is you who truly lacks class… so fall back, Fix your tracks and get some class…
Tue 21 Apr 2009 at 16:20:22
Oh yeah, whoever attacked me about the smelling comment (this is going to be silly but
…)
1.) She’s stank and scandalous, if her mom didn’t teach her how to act like a lady, she probably didn’t teach her how to clean her butt… her big sweaty, oversized butt (barf)
2.) If she sleeps around – which she admitted to on a radio show as well as working as a video ho and doing ’shows’, (where they probably jump from one client to the next) I don’t think she’s smelling fresh and clean like ‘Summer’s Eve’, Soap or Water…
Moroever, people call self proclaimed whores ‘DIRTY’ for a reason… it’s a yucky lifestyle…
and if it looks like a whore and acts like a whore… it probably smells like a whore…
and they way that you defend her, I wonder about you…are you a social worker, I think she needed your help YEARSSSSSS ago…LOL
Tue 21 Apr 2009 at 21:29:59
LOL @ this conversation.
I agree with Sade except for Buffie looking better than Bria. C’mon now. Buffie’s not the prettiest thing in the world although she’s not particulary ugly either. She’s average in the face. But then again, just like how I find CNN airhead Amy Holmes to be plain-looking yet other posters find her beautiful, it’s all in the eye of the beholder. I respect that.
Also, it doesn’t matter what shade, black and blonde don’t go!!! Ever! No exceptions! LOL.
Tue 21 Apr 2009 at 21:50:46
I just deleted some comments by Racrealist and Babybrown. They were way off topic and degenerating into name-calling.
Tue 21 Apr 2009 at 22:14:36
Buffie’s butt is freakishly big, but I’m sure that many butt fetishists out there are completely smitten. Any attempt to criticize her for making the most of her assets reeks of jealousy. I applaud her for finding her niche and making the most of what she’s got. It is not uncommon to see “ordinary” people criticizing those with exceptional assets, and I always applaud those who find the best niche to profit from their gifts.
I’m sure there are many similarly blessed/cursed women who have not accomplished anything worth blogging about.
Tue 21 Apr 2009 at 22:49:19
i don’t see what’s the big deal with black women wearing weaves. yes it’s fake but it’s JUST HAIR. if a black woman wear a weave, regardless of what color it is, she hates herself? i’m sorry but i think it’s a bunch of b.s. to me. i’m not the biggest fan to weaves but if that’s what black women wear then who are we to judge? so babybrown that’s very ignorant and rude of you to say that because at the end of the day, it’s their choice and nobody else! plus mary j. blige has a blond weave in her hair and she looks good in it and some other black women that choose to wear blond weaves. i just don’t see why it’s self hating for black women to wear a weave.
Tue 21 Apr 2009 at 23:06:14
Um, MANY white women wear weaves just as much as many black women. Hell, most white female celebs wear hair weaves, falls and extensions. It’s hardly exclusive to black women. I always thought of it as a fashion thing not a statement on how a woman feels about her hair.
Wed 22 Apr 2009 at 00:03:57
i was just saying that why is it that when black women wear a weave, it’s self hating or she can’t appreciate her natural hair? and i agree white women and women of races wear weaves as well. i was speaking to babybrown about the whole weave thing.
Wed 22 Apr 2009 at 04:48:06
Weaves can be self-hating, but they are so common any more that for many black women they probably are not. But if natural hair ever makes a big comeback, then when they look back at the pictures of our time they will shake their heads and think it sad.
Blonde hair and brown skin is just plain ugly to me. Even on Mary J.
Wed 22 Apr 2009 at 17:51:41
Babybrown,
Although you find my comments boring I do find yours rather entertaining. I am not defending Buffy’s actions I simply stated that I don’t think she’s ugly.
I don’t agree with women wearing color weave but if they do who cares? Oh, by the way whenever I do wear weave my tracks are always on point!
I don’t disagree with what your saying, I’m all for empowering Black women. I just didn’t think it was necessary to attack someone who is obviously lost. Whenever I’m passionate about something I do something about it. I volunteer at a battered women shelter and at a center where they help young girls build their self-esteem because this is a big problem in our community.
Lastly, I never said that your don’t have class because you’re obviously intelligent however, I since a lot of hate behind all of that and that’s not classy. For the record I’m not a social worker I just have a beautiful heart but thanks for noticing. Perhaps, you can start a movement.

I never said she’s the prettiest thing in the world maybe cute is a better word.
They’re both cute average looking women. As I mentioned before I saw Bria in person but just like you said beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
Wed 22 Apr 2009 at 20:27:34
i think mary j. blige looks good with the blond and i disagree that weaves can be self hating because i’ve some black women with weaves and have self confidence and don’t give a damn what people think. there’s nothing wrong wearing your natural hair because i wear my hair natural too. with a weave, you put it in your hair and then you take it out. nothing bad happens. like i said everybody make choices and women can do whatever they want with their hair.
Thu 23 Apr 2009 at 14:38:12
Thanks abagond and sade, for the lucid comments… and sade there’s no hate or lack of class, this is my opinion and there’s no lack of class for me embracing my natural beauty and not finding a woman who sells her body attractive – I’m not going to apologize because the majority has bought into the whole European beauty ideal and video ho glam, I can’t do it, and I won’t
lil’vina, please don’t call me ignorant…I don’t understand how someone can call another person ignorant, when they don’t pay attention to the comments or the facts, there is research that shows the adverse effects that European beauty standards and ideals have on women of color… LIKE I said, I don’t have any issues with protective styling (I’m not going to repeat everything that I previously wrote) BUT when women poison their bodies with the harsh chemicals in relaxers this CHEMICALLY ALTERS the texture of the hair AND can lead to chemical burns, breakage and hair loss among other things… and we are taught to do this because OUR HAIR ISN’T ‘GOOD’ ENOUGH’? OH PLEASE!
AND BECAUSE many Black women have never been taught HOW to manage their hair and especially their natural hair in a healthy way – they NEVER have a full head of healthy hair… we live in a society and grew up in families where ‘new growth’ was the equivalent to sin… the second anyone could see ‘napps’, ‘kinks’ or ‘curls’ it was straightened or chemically altered…
The culture is sick, it truly is… we are taught to appreciate European culture so much and to hate our own so much that we’d rather buy our hair, YAKY if we want it to look like ‘ethnic relaxed hair’ and ‘European straight’ if we want to look ridiculous… oh please, there is definitely self hate there honey, and if you don’t see that, that’s okay you just haven’t had your awakening, but just because I’ve seen the light, research and counseled little black girls who say they hate their skin, hair and bodies because they don’t look white – don’t call me ignorant and rude… I have seen the light, and I hope that you do too one day…
Thu 23 Apr 2009 at 18:25:45
I kinda sorta agree with babybrown. Subconsciously, there is some level of self-hate and some women now have bald patches from the relaxers or have no hairline from the constant weaves.
Thu 23 Apr 2009 at 22:09:04
I know people do not like to think they are brainwashed, but quite clearly most are, both black and white, by Hollywood ideas of beauty.
Fri 24 Apr 2009 at 23:33:02
oh please babybrown! just because some black women that choose to wear weaves or get perms doesn’t always mean they want to have that european look. it maybe for some but not everybody. i get my hair flat iron and straighten it out, does that mean i hate myself? no i don’t and i think a lot of black women do that because they want to look beautiful and have their own style. trust me i’m awake and i don’t put other women down because they choose to wear their hair a different way and i appreciate my nappy hair because i was born with it so no matter how much i straighten my hair, it still will be thick and nappy but am i ashamed? no and there’s plenty of black women who’s not ashamed of their kinky hair. there are some perms that do cause damage to black women’s hair but that doesn’t mean it will happen to every black woman that gets a perm. my mom use to have a perm but she didn’t do it all the time but at the same time she took care of it and her hair is still beautiful. i got nothing against women that wear their hair natural but i don’t like the ones that put other black women down because they choose to wear weaves when it’s their choose. i think you need to realize that.
Sat 25 Apr 2009 at 07:11:16
I wear my hair natural most of the time, but also like to switch it up with a sewin. I believe there are alot of misconceptions about hair extensions. What alot of people don’t know is that sewin extensions can be a great protective style (but it can be damaging if the braids are too tight, or if you don’t give your natural hair enough attention). My hair has grown tremendously (When I started my hair was almost shoulder length, now it is bra strap length) from having my hair sewn up for over a year (with some breaks in between), and since I wash it and deep condition it regularly, as well as eating healthy, its quite healthy as a result. Also there are various types of extensions from silky straight, to extremely kinky (for example: http://a457.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/50/l_e1432508d08f53fe598a5be4bdec4ad0.jpg) .
Fact is people wear extensions for different reasons, it’s a bit of a blanket statement to say “women wear weaves because….” mainly because the reasons for wearing them vary from person to person. Sure their are some poor women who wear them because unfortunately they dislike their hair in it’s natural state, but then their are others who simply like to switch up their style and wearing a weave is a good way to do that with out damaging their own hair. I think this is similar to how people who wear their hair natural (like dreads a twisties for example) do so for different reasons, I personally just like big (thick) hair, mainly because mine is naturally thin, not because it makes me feel “blacker” lol, hell whether my hair is in a fro, a silky straight weave, permed, or bald, I’m going to black regardless and proud of who I am regardless . Also if a woman is not taking care of her hair whether it’s natural permed or other wise, it will become damaged, also too much stress can make a persons hair fall out. Basically the hair style of choice should not be the problem, what should be a thing of concern is the person’s mindset while doing it, if they are doing it because they REALLY and TRULY like the style then that’s fine, but if they are doing it because they feel they have to live up to someone else’s idea of beauty or if they feel pressured then that is a problem.

And also women can have hair issues in the “natural community” as well, lets not ignore those poor souls who obsess over curly “good” hair textures, I’ve seen this ALOT!

I think that is the heart of the issue – not how you wear your hair but why.
By the way, I could not see that picture and I doubt anyone else could. It might be protected by MySpace from general viewing.

Abagond, Kat and Asha, I think that you are on point…
‘if they are doing it because they feel they have to live up to someone else’s idea of beauty or if they feel pressured then that is a problem.’
And regardless of what others want to say, there may be a lot, however, there may be a few BLACK WOMEN who want to live up to European beauty ideals (I can’t speculate on exact numbers – but I know when I see the average Black woman on the East Coast or the Midwest, most have fake hair – not all have platinum blonde booty weaves, but they ARE out there)
Asha and KAT you got the point of what I was saying, thank you for understanding fully what I was saying before responding to me…I appreciate that
… some other people purposely want to scrutinize what I’m saying just so that they have something to post, oh well, that’s cool, it’s also funny…
One person said ‘BW want to look beautiful and have their own style.’ that’s cool, I want to be beautiful and have my own style too – who doesn’t???… however, going back to Asha’s great statement tying in with my point…
Group 1)some people choose to look White (white textured and colored hair, skin bleaching etc) because they think that’s beautiful (all the while rejecting their Blackness, knowingly or unknowingly) AND
(Group 2) some people choose to embrace their Blackness because that’s what they think is beautiful (or that’s what they are learning is true beauty, after years of living in the matrix)…
at the end of the day there are many varieties that fall along this spectrum, some people may not realize that they have been influenced by Euro ideals and some are aware of the Matrix and choose to embrace their natural bodies and hair…
Abagond, the comment you made the other day still rings true especially those who are so angry at my comments ‘I know people do not like to think they are brainwashed, but quite clearly most are, both black and white, by Hollywood ideas of beauty.’
well said~Babybrown

use to seeing. she’s cute otherwise still
occasionally ghetto in some sense of that word.
anyway i still like buffie as i do other types
of models, i will always have my preferences.

What’s “ghetto” about her face? I mean, she doesn’t look like the “acceptable, minority character” on CBS or NBC, is that what that means? She looks like an actual black woman. I can’t see the “ghetto” in there sorry, I grew up in the Caribbean where women with her bone structure and body type are common enough. I think she’s pretty.

I think that is what “ghetto” does mean in this case: she does not look like someone who would be held up as beautiful on white American television.
